Billy Reid Fall 2011: Good Ol’ Boy Brings Us Womenswear
Reviews

Billy Reid Fall 2011: Good Ol’ Boy Brings Us Womenswear

You meet a guy, and he’s everything you expected from a Southern gentleman.  He’s handsome and polite, has a strong gait, watches Alabama football, drinks bourbon.  And then you meet the woman with him.  She’s mired in warmth, sophistication and charm.  And you sigh as you realize she’s his woman, from her chiffon gown to her motorcycle jacket.

This was the couple we encountered over and over at Billy Reid’s F/W 2011 presentation at the penthouse of Milk Studios. Deeply Southern, steeped in tradition and comfort, tied to American craftsmanship with every look, cut and stitch.

Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue
Fashion Week

Fashion’s Night Out: The Madness That is About to Ensue

We cannot believe Fashion’s Night Out is really here. Something like a thousand shopping events are actually happening. Tonight. And they all sound amazing and, in New York, whether they’re uptown or downtown, you probably want to go to all of them. While that is simply unrealistic, we are getting some help from Volkswagon, who are providing us with a fancy new 2011 Jetta to transport us and our shopping bags around what in a few short hours will be a total shitshow of a city.

Jealous? Don’t be – From now until 12:00 a.m., shoppers can visit two Volkswagen Style Express locations for a ride uptown or downtown in the all-new 2011 Jetta: 50th Street between 5th and 6th Avenues; and Greene Street between Spring and Prince Streets. If these end up running smoothly and often, it’s probably your best bet if you want to play ping pong at Barneys before getting a manicure at the Soho Chanel store.

Meredith Melling-Burke On Gossip Girl and Other Major FNO News

Fashion’s Night Out is a little more than a month away and more details are being revealed around the world as the night gets closer.

For one, Hamish Bowles and Lauren Santo-Domingo will not be the only Vogue editors to appear on the September 20 FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode. Vogue market editor Meredith Melling-Burke will also make an appearance and we hear she’s wearing Chloe.

In other news, Payless is offering Facebook fans a chance to win a 5-day trip to NYC for Fashion’s Night Out. The “All Fashion Pass” will include access to the Vogue fashion show and a meet and greet with Payless designers Christian Siriano, Patricia Field, Lela Rose and Isabel Toledo. This actually sounds really cool.

From NYC to Australia, Chanel to Billy Reid, we’ve got the scoop on even more major FNO events you won’t want to miss.

Fashion News Roundup: Billy’s Big Win, Crystal Renn on the Today Show and Mrs. Obama Honors Rodarte

Fashion News Roundup: Billy’s Big Win, Crystal Renn on the Today Show and Mrs. Obama Honors Rodarte

We Heart Billy Reid: It’s been a few months since Billy Reid was named GQ‘s Best Menswear Designer of the Year, but we insist you check out this video GQ just posted. It gives a behind-the-scenes look at the exclusive presentation of each designer’s collection to the judges. Watch ’til the end when Billy is presented with the grand prize. He’s so happy and even starts to tear up! It’s too cute. {GQ.com}

Crystal Renn’s Today Show Confessions: The fashion world has been in a tizzy over (fomerly?) plus size model Crystal Renn’s apparent weight loss. The model went on the Today Show to dispel and explain. She says those Fashion for Passion photos were retouched to make her look like a size two, that she has been doing a new exercise routine, and that she’s been in recovery from anorexia for seven years. {The Cut}

Kelly Cutrone’s Books Need Their Own Section: Yes, Kelly Cutrone is working on a second book, tentatively titled Yes I Said That. But she doesn’t want this book to end up where her last one did–in the self-help section. “My idea is that there should be a section called ‘Journey’ and when my book comes out in May, I want it to be in [this] new section.” {People Style Watch}

CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Names Its Finalists

Ten American designers just got a lot happier. The CFDA and Vogue announced their ten finalists for the seventh annual CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund initiative, and we’re pretty pleased with the results (as we’re sure they are as well). Though the process is far from being over–the winner and two runners-up will be announced on November 15–having the list in our hands is enough to make us sit on the edge of our seats. The finalists are as follows:

Billy Reid & Whiskey Wednesday

We haven’t nicknamed a night since college, but designer Billy Reid‘s deemed today “Whiskey Wednesday”. Reid’s Bond Street store oozes Southern charm – it opened last fall and was built, top to toe, from wood, furniture, antiques and even window frames imported from below the Mason Dixon line. It boasts racks of well tailored, handmade-looking Read more →
