Leandra Medine aka The Man Repeller Dishes on Free Clothes, Monetizing Her Blog, and Doing a Book

Leandra Medine aka The Man Repeller Dishes on Free Clothes, Monetizing Her Blog, and Doing a Book

Blogger of the moment Leandra Medine aka the Man Repeller made an appearance on Tom Keene’s Bloomberg show Surveillance Midday yesterday. Keene seems amazed and a little frightened by her in this interview, and even compares her to the New York Times phenom Brian Stelter, who got scooped up by the paper of record after he launched TVNewser while in college.

It is pretty hard to believe that Leandra Medine only launched The Man Repeller a little over a year ago, considering not only its popularity, but all of the projects and collaborations that have already come out of it, like the collaboration with Dannijo that she promotes during the segment.

Here, in addition to discussing the blog’s premise and the difficulty of getting around fashion week on 9/11, she reveals how she monetizes the blog, which includes charging for advertising, taking a commission on everything she links to, not having a clothing expense because she’s “sent so much clothing,” and things that she does with other brands that she makes money on.

Shopping

Are You Haggling?

We shipped Natalie off on an Egyptian vacation last week and though I’ve spent a fair portion of my life there, she only wanted to know about shopping. So I told her, “Bargain. Almost everything costs less than half of what you’re told and everything is negotiable – absolutely no exceptions.” But that’s in the Read more →

Parks & Mini-Skirts in Tehran

There’s an article on Bloomberg today about women-only parks in Tehran. The parks – there are two so far and plans to open another four – provide a place for women to play sports, sunbathe and just hang out outside without having to be fully covered. Twenty-two year old Pantea Ebrahimian says, “Every Iranian woman Read more →
