Want a Job in the Fashion Industry? Fashion Draft NYC Can Hook You Up

The fashion industry has teamed up with New York City for some serious job recruiting efforts: If you have a passion for the business of fashion (and you’re a graduating college senior), start dusting off your resume and choosing your interview outfits.

The New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Parsons the New School for Design just launched a program called Fashion Draft NYC. The goal of the program is to put exceptional candidates in front of some of the biggest fashion companies around, with the goal of hiring and keeping the industry in NYC viable and vibrant.

If you’re one of the 25 to 30 applicants chosen for the program, you’ll be flown to NYC from February 16-18 (room and board included) and will have the opportunity to meet with reps from companies like Macy’s, Theory, Bloomingdale’s, LF USA, and Gilt. There will be networking opportunities, industry speakers, and behind-the-scenes tours. The best part?

Fashionista’s FNO Guide #1: Where to Find the Celebrities
Fashion Is Fun

Fashionista’s FNO Guide #1: Where to Find the Celebrities

We can’t believe Fashion’s Night Out (and, thus, fashion week) is only a week away. As anyone who has ever been to a Fashion’s Night Out is probably aware, they pack enough events to fill an entire week into just a few hours, so pre-FNO planning is key. While Vogue‘s interactive map is quite handy, that is still a lot of stores to go through. So, we’re preparing a few of our own Fashion’s Night Out guides.

This one is for those of you who just want to see some famous people. We don’t blame you! Fashion’s Night Out offers rare opportunities to get up close and personal with real Hollywood stars. Maybe Tilda Swinton and Ne-Yo will become friends or Daniel Radcliffe will get wasted or Alexa Chung will debut a new haircut or Seth Meyers will screw up your drink or the Real Housewives of New York will be insane (that last one is the most likely)! Here’s our guide to where all your favorite celebs will be.

Tilda Swinton at Saks, Michael Kors in Bergdorf’s Windows and More: Here’s What You Can Expect at Fashion’s Night Out 2011

Fashion’s Night Out round three promises to be the biggest yet. Stores in over 250 cities across the US and overseas are scheduled to participate in the Vogue-helmed retail fest, and this year over 200 e-tailers will join in on the fun so those not living in or near a participating city can throw down plastic and score some deals too.

September 8 looms ever closer and Fashionsnightout.com has just unveiled a master list of events hosted by retailers across the country so you can start mapping out your shopping route now. (And we mean that literally–the site allows you to “add events” to your “night out” and plots them on a map.)

We scoured the listings for all the most important information: which celebrities have signed on and what they’ll be doing, the craziest gimmicks, and where all your favorite designers will be so you can stalk them show them some love.

American Apparel to Launch Shops on eBay and in Bloomingdale’s, Could the Retailer Finally Be Back on Track?

American Apparel to Launch Shops on eBay and in Bloomingdale’s, Could the Retailer Finally Be Back on Track?

Every season or so, there is some sort of detailed report on the progress of always almost-bankrupt retailer American Apparel. This morning, Dov and his empire are the subject of a WWD piece, the focus of which is AA’s forthcoming e-commerce shop on eBay. However, the online shop-in-shop is only one of several efforts the company is making to increase business. The retailer is also in talks to bring this shop-in-shop method to real life with leased spaces in Bloomingdale’s.

American Apparel is also set to open three additional leased spaces in Selfridges stores in the U.K. And, in a short time, most college apparel could have American Apparel’s signature Made in USA tags on the inside. They’re reportedly close to sealing a deal that could see them supplying clothes for up to 2,500 campuses.

Numbers were looking OK for AA back in May. It really seems like, if all goes according to plan, Dov & co. could finally actually be on the right track.

Which US Retailers Still Carry John Galliano? And What’s to Become of Galliano Kids?

Which US Retailers Still Carry John Galliano? And What’s to Become of Galliano Kids?

Yesterday Page Six published an item reporting that Saks Fifth Avenue had pulled John Galliano‘s eponymous line from the floor of their flagship Manhattan store. The item went on to cite a quote Suzanne Johnson, the general manager of Saks flagship store, gave site dot429: “We have values like I hope everyone else has. What happened was not right, and we would not want to carry [Galliano's] merchandise in honor of our customers and my employees that work in the store. That decision is being carried out.” Of course, Saks clarified to the Post that they’ll still carry Dior. This isn’t suprising–Galliano is no longer affiliated with Dior and Dior is too big a brand for retailers to consider dropping.

But while the Page Six item implied that Saks was pulling Galliano, the retailer’s website is still selling products with his name.

Attention Beauty Junkies: Bloomingdale’s Is Throwing A Pretty Party

I opened my big glossy flyer from Bloomie’s yesterday and almost started hyperventilating from sheer over-stimulation. From October 14 through the 24th they are hosting a massive beauty event and we’re all invited.

First of all, if you love free samples and tote bags, it is a goody bag paradise. Or rather, a “gift with purchase” paradise. Yeah, you have to buy. But isn’t it worth spending $100 to get a cheap pouch full of tiny samples? (Apparently I think so, because I have ten years’ worth of these cluttering up my bathroom vanity.)

Here are some of the best:

Space NK: It’s kind of major that Space NK is selling in Bloomindgale’s now. For years their hard-to-find brands were only available in the UK, until a flagship opened here in NYC. Let’s hope this Bloomie’s collaboration leads to more free-standing Space NK stores. But I digress. For spending $95, you’ll get a black cosmetics bag filled with off-the-beaten path samples from the likes of Wei Bauty, Eve Lom, and Lipstick Queen.
