What’s Up With Botox Lately? We Talk to a Dermatologist About all the Recent Crazy News

Botox, despite its years of use and now-mainstream status, is still a great source of fascination and debate in beauty and medical circles. The more experience dermatologists have with the drug, the more creative ways they are finding to use it. And as a result, a lot of ethical and social questions arise.

Botox Mom stole the headlines with her fake story, but we all believed that it could actually happen. In the last week no fewer than four Botox stories appeared in various outlets.

Botox Mom is Really Sorry About What She Did and Wants Her Daughter Back Now, Please

Botox Mom Kerry Campbell’s story keeps getting sketchier. Just to catch you up on the details so far: She told the Sun back in March that she injects her eight-year-old daughter with Botox so that she’ll become a star. Last week she appeared on Good Morning, America and allowed her daughter to be interviewed; the girl admitted that, yes, the injections hurt. Then a San Francisco paper reported that the woman’s name might not even be Kerry Campbell, nor does she live in the Bay Area. But supposedly officials had taken her daughter, Britney, away from her.

Now she’s popped back up in the Sun again, apologizing profusely and “wailing.” She told the Sun, “I am going to seek therapy for my obsession with looks so I will no longer push my insecurities about appearance on to her.” She explained that she never wanted to hurt Britney and thought she was helping her.

Botox Mom is Under Investigation by Child Protective Services

Remember that nutso story about the demented mom who injects her eight-year-old daughter with Botox? Well, it ended up being true, and Lara Spencer interviewed the San Francisco-based mom and daughter on Good Morning America yesterday. It was all as creepy and strange as you might imagine–the mom is training the girl to be a “superstar”–but there’s some good news. Apparently San Francisco human services is investigating the situation.

“It’s pretty unusual for a mom to be injecting an 8-year-old with botox and certainly is grounds for an investigation,” San Francisco Human Services Agency spokesperson Trent Rohrer told GMA.

We have no doubt something will be done. Because this shit is bananas. Click through to watch the video of Spencer interviewing the girl.

Mother Gives Her Eight-Year-Old Daughter Botox To “Make Her A Star”

Hard to believe that we were shocked by makeup for eight-year-olds and titillating Vogue Enfants spreads. In a story that we sincerely hope is a load of BS (it was featured in UK tab The Sun), a mother in the UK proudly admits to giving her eight-year-old daughter, Britney, Botox injections to increase her chances of becoming a star. Britney is apparently active on the child pageant scene.

Kerry (no last name mentioned) is a “beautician” in the UK who buys Botox and other fillers from friends and the internet, then injects her daughter’s face with them every three months. Oh, but she tests them all on herself first, so it’s perfectly safe.

Mom told The Sun: “I know one day she will be a model, actress, or singer, and having these treatments now will ensure she stays looking younger and baby-faced for longer.” If you haven’t yet passed out from shock, she then said this:

18-Y-O Pop Star Charice Gets Botox; How Young is Too Young?

Filipino pop star Charice, who is 18 but could easily pass for 15, recently got Botox. Unsurprisingly, this has caused some controversy.

According to the AP, Charice was injected with the wrinkle-reducing toxin “to look fresh on camera” in preparation for her upcoming debut as Rachel Berry’s rival on “Glee.” Celebrity plastic surgeon Vicki Belo, who injected Charice on camera, told ABS-CBN television that the teen pop tart got Botox as well as a 30-minute Thermage skin-tightening procedure to make her “naturally round face” more narrow. Charice herself told ABS-CBN that the procedures were part of her prep before filming the hit Fox TV show.
