Breakfast at Tiffany’s Costume Designer Colleen Atwood on Giving Holly Golightly a 1940s Makeover

With Game of Thrones star Emilia Clarke in the lead role made famous by Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film version of Breakfast at Tiffany’s, we couldn’t help but wonder how Holly Golightly’s iconic wardrobe (Givenchy and satin gloves, anyone?) would translate to the stage–and the play’s World War II-era Manhattan setting.

We caught up with the production’s costume designer Colleen Atwood–a Hollywood heavyweight who’s been nominated for 10 Oscars and won three (for her work in Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, and Alice in Wonderland)–about her first foray into theater and redesigning an icon.

We Offer Up Some Inspiration For New York’s Lady Cat(masked) Burglar

A lady wearing a cat mask has been holding up shoe and beauty stores around New York City, the New York Post is reporting (they’ve got video too). And no, it’s not Jocelyn Wildenstein.

According to the report, she’s in her 20s, 5’7″, 120 pounds, “possibly Middle Eastern,” and, no joke, wore a cat mask to hold up a shoe store for $86. What’s more, she browsed the shoe store wearing her cat mask for 45 minutes before holding the place up. For her next hit, a Body Shop in Queens, she switched it up and wore a black scarf over her head like a Burqa, and made off with $500.

We couldn’t help but think that this lady stick-up artist was watching Breakfast at Tiffany’s before she set out to rob that shoe store.

So we’ve come up with some of our favorite masked moments in film and fashion to serve as inspiration for this cat burglar’s next heist. (Not that we condone robbery or anything.)
