Fashion is always looking for the next big thing–and that means photographers, models and magazines are continuously pushing themselves onwards and upwards. And boy did they take it to the next level in 2012. From elaborate sets with A-list celebs, to pared down shoots with models of the moment, the year produced some seriously inspiring Read more →
“I hate to use the words gay and straight, and I think we’re all on some sort of sliding scale. Of course, I’m at the Richard Buckley end of the scale, but I hate that gay/straight thing.”
–We’re overdue for a good Tom Ford quote about sex, aren’t we?
Model of every moment Freja Beha Erichsen covers the all-important September fashion Issue of British Vogue. The glossy just released the cover and Freja looks awesome in teal sequined Dolce & Gabbana. This is the first time since 2008 that someone other than Kate Moss, who just covered August and will cover American Vogue‘s September issue, has covered September.
The cover and accompanying editorial (photos after the jump) were shot by Mario Testino and the latter also stars Arizona Muse, Freja’s rumored other half. Alexandra Shulman says that the editorial “earns its place among Vogue classics.”
WWD broke the news yesterday that Vogue‘s senior accessories editor Filipa Fino suddenly left the magazine after 11 years with the company. The following statement was included in the trade publication’s initial report, but has since been mysteriously removed: “Sources hinted that Fino’s departure could allegedly be tied to some inappropriate behavior on her part.”
There may be some truth to that statement. Multiple sources within Conde Nast and beyond have relayed to us that Fino acted unprofessionally in regards to the fashion closet and expenses.
No word yet on who will replace Fino. We reached out to Conde Nast for additional comment, but they declined to elaborate. Fino’s exit was only one of many recent shakeups within Conde Nast.
Coincidentally another of Conde Nast’s senior editors was just axed–W‘s senior fashion market editor Carolyn Tate Angel.
“We had to wait [to work with each other] until we had the same haircut” — Mario Testino. “Actually, my inspiration for my haircut was Mario” — Emma Watson. – A post-Potter Emma Watson joking with Mario Testino in between snaps at her British Vogue covershoot in this adorable behind-the-scenes video.

Inside Kate Moss’ 30th British Vogue Cover: British Vogue’s next issue will mark the the 30th time Kate Moss has covered the magazine and the 6th time she’s covered September in the past 10 years. She looks great on the cover (obviously), showcasing the “minimal chic” look in Burberry. Editor Alexandra Shulman predicts another big trend for Fall will be Fifties full-skirted silhouettes, which will be featured in a story called “God Created Woman”. Perhaps we have Mad Men to thank?

Chelsea’s Wedding Dress Being Knocked Off Already: A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz didn’t waste any time recreating Chelsea’s Vera Wang look and they’re knocking off Hillary’s ODR gown while they’re at it. {The Daily Beast}
September 15 to become official Marc Jacobs Day: Not really, but it might as well. This September 15 will mark the designer’s Spring ’11 runway show, the launch of a new e-commerce site, and the opening of Bookmarc, Jacobs’ new bookstore on Bleecker. They also may want to rename the west village Marc Jacobs Village. {The Thread}
Olivier Zahm to get closure: Yesterday, poor, sad Olivier gave sympathetic Purple Diary readers hope, as heartbreaker Natacha Ramsay has agreed to come down from her “love escape” in Maine to see him in New York. “This symbolic gesture will help me to peacefully let her go in her new life. I will do my best to start again with the Purple Diary.” The only posts between this and the initial break-up post were a picture of clouds, a picture of him and Terry Richardson titled “Love,” and a picture of some naked women in the new Purple Book. {Purple Diary}
While flipping through Freja Beha Erichsen’s aptly titled “Colour Shock” spread shot by Josh Olins in August’s British Vogue, we paused at the final image of Freja in a fluffy baby blue sweater. We knew that mohair sweater. Liv Tyler wore it Empire Records.
Tyler’s outfit in Empire Records–the cropped baby blue mohair sweater, the tiny plaid kilt, the docs, her long brown hair parted straight down the middle–was the coolest thing ever in 1995 when the cult flick came out. 15 years later we still think it’s worthy of some fashion inspiration. So does British Vogue apparently. And Erin Wasson styled a shoot for Elle based on the movie last year. (Lauren’s finds her mid-90s fashion inspiration in Mall Rats).
We love British culture for tons of reasons, but one that is that the Brits are unabashed about their love of celebrities. Even high fashion books and blogs like Vogue UK get in on the act–not a hint of snobbery to be detected.
This time around, the site’s fashion editor Julia Neel reviewed White Trash Beautiful, a new apparel collection designed by…wait for it…Bon Jovi’s Richie Sambora.
