The news of Elizabeth Taylor’s death got us thinking quite a bit about celebrity fragrances, given that the Hollywood star’s White Diamonds is still the best-selling celeb fragrance collection in the world, bringing in $76.9 million globally in 2010.

But what other celeb-backed scents have succeeded? While most are flash-in-the-pan occurrences, others have experienced ongoing success. So we asked Chicago-headquartered market research firm Euromonitor International who has risen to the top.

Britney Spears Promotes Her New Album Femme Fatale In Dolce & Gabbana Bodysuits

It’s Britney y’all–and she’s back to promote her new album Femme Fatale…in Dolce & Gabbana (no cut offs or umbrellas here).

It’s no secret the Italian design duo love pop stars–they’ve dressed Kylie Minogue for her last three tours. And they’ve got a soft spot for Britney too, telling the Telegraph:

“We love Britney and we love to dance to her new songs! We can’t wait to hear the whole album!…She has always been among our favourite artists because she has been able to remain true to herself and to her style throughout the years. With her music she influenced and inspired generations of people for more than 10 years, always staying at the top, and we can’t but congratulate her for this new, important achievement.”

Gossip: Britney Spears is Rumored to be Performing at Don Hill’s Tonight

According to some well-placed sources, Brit Brit will be performing at Don Hill’s tonight. (Weirdly, there was a joke about this in The Daily, but we hear that it’s actually true.) The venue was recently acquired by Paul Sevigny, which means all the cool people now hang out there regularly. Again. (Courtney Love is rumored to be around there this weekend, too.)

By the time Brit hits the stage we’ll probably be asleep, but to all you early-twenty-something-hot-scenesters, it might be worth dropping by.

When thinking of artist/celebrity pairs to create a magazine cover, the duo of Britney Spears and Takashi Murakami is not one of the more obvious choices. But Pop‘s Winter 2010 cover (they’re really ahead of the game) shows Britney looking Japanime envisioned by Mr. Murakami himself. (Todd Cole was behind the camera.)

Since Dasha Zhukova’s appointment as EIC, Pop has taken an artsy tone, its Summer 2010 cover shot by Richard Prince. The strange coincidence is that both Prince and Murakami gained major fashion world fame because of their collaborations with Louis Vuitton. Maybe Marc is consulting on these covers….
