Why Baby Perfumes Are a Thing: A Fragrance Expert Explains

When we found out about Dolce & Gabbana’s new perfume for babies we, like the rest of the Internet, had a few questions.

How indeed can anyone possibly make a baby smell better than, well, baby? It’s a heavenly aroma that will make your ovaries start churning out hormones the second you encounter it. And also–are perfumes for babies something that actually exists? Is there really a market for them? And most importantly: Are they safe?

We had a chat with Frederick Bouchardy, the founder & president of Joya perfumes and the co-founder of the Elements Showcase, who cleared things up for us.

Gift Guide: The Best Gifts for the Style and Tech-Savvy

As Oprah and her audience can attest, iPads make great gifts. So do laptops, e-readers, smart phones and other fun technology. But perhaps even more fun (not to mention less expensive) are the accessories out there to go along with these gadgets. Honestly, I’m not sure which I’d be more excited to unwrap–an actual iPad or a snake-embossed Rebecca Minkoff case for it. (Ok, probs an iPad.)

As more and more designers are smartly expanding into this market, there are now a plethora of fashionable ways to pretty-up your new toys, the sleekest of which still tend to look drab and impersonal. There are Mulberry patent leather laptop cases, Marc by Marc headphones, Tory Burch Kindle sleeves and so much more. Click through for the best tech gifts.

Oprah’s Favorite Fashion Things, Then and Now

Oprah‘s final “Favorite Things” episode aired this past week. If you haven’t watched the crowd reactions already, you should (or check out audience reactions from the whole last season on this awesome tumblr). Everyone went nuts. Of course, if I was being gifted a 2012 Volkswagon Beetle, an iPad, and some Le Creuset cookware, I’d be doing a happy dance too.

Having your product on Oprah‘s “Favorite Things” things list is akin to having your book chosen for her book club–meaning it will sell. And often, Oprah’s favorite stuff is beauty and fashion-related (but the fashion tends to be on the comfort-end–nothing wrong with that). Previously Oprah-endorsed favorite things like Spanx and Uggs became ubiquitous best-sellers after earning a spot on the “Favorite Things” list, according to AOL’s Small Business site. Her “Favorite Things” episode has even saved some companies from the brink of bankruptcy.

So we decided to take a look at this year’s fashion and beauty-related “favorite things” as well as “favorite things” of years past (yes, J.Lo’s velour sweatsuit was on the list in ’02). Are any of them your favorite things too?
