Or at least that’s what makeup companies think, if the sheer and utterly confusing amount of mascaras on the market is any indication. There are volumizing, thickening and lengthening formulas; bristle, plastic, curved, and straight wands; ones that declump, ones that purportedly help your lashes grow longer–there’s even mascaras that vibrate. But with so many options on the table, how does one even begin to choose the right mascara for herself?

What Should Be In Your Fashion Week Makeup Bag?

Schedules are finalized, batteries are charged, shoes are chosen. And having a few key beauty items to face the week of chaos is just as important as having my Macbook charger in tow. Faced with crappy weather, a frenzied schedule of shows, and the pressure of day-to-night dressing, you have to be prepared for all eventualities. And really, isn’t this true of anyone’s life?

There are tons of new and classic products that are perfect:

Hair: Sleek or tousled? If the latter, you must try Bumble and Bumble’s new Texture Hair (Un)Dressing Creme. Run it through damp hair and dry with a diffuser for volume and a perfect messy look. I’ve used it on my hair dry, too. It adds a little weight and texture when things are getting flyaway. Prefer sleek? Aveda’s classic Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss with rice bran oil provides a ton of shine and the smell is really calming. And I’m giving Leah a can of Meta Revive Dry Shampoo from celeb hairdresser Serge Normant’s posh new line. Because who has time to wash their hair during Fashion Week?
