Carine Roitfeld’s tenure over Vogue Paris was dramatic, to say the least, and her final issue as EIC does not disappoint. Starring the androgynous model of the moment, Saskia de Brauw, on the cover shot by Mert and Marcus, Roitfeld’s final Vogue is a testament to all the aspects that made her a beloved editor and stylist.

From the weekend emerged more crazy designer gossip.

According to Eric Wilson at the New York Times, Hannah MacGibbon is likely to be exiting Chloe after this season. The label, which is owned by Richemont, is said to have already interviewed candidates for the job. We hope this isn’t true, mostly because we really like MacGibbon‘s work.

But back to that other little situation. Sources inside the house of Dior tell Fashionista that the rumor within the company goes like this: Riccardo Tisci is most definitely in, and Carine Roitfeld will serve as the label’s stylist. Roitfeld was most recently linked to Hedi Slimane’s rumored takeover of YSL, although the Stefano Pilati-directed label’s expertly placed piece in the Times seems to have muffled those whispers.

Clearly the only thing anyone in Paris is talking about this week is John Galliano, and who will replace him at Dior.

The latest gossip goes something like this: Riccardo Tisci will indeed replace Galliano at Christian Dior, Haider Ackermann will slip into Tisci’s spot at Givenchy, and despite YSL’s vehement denial otherwise, Hedi Slimane is about to take over for Stefano Pilati. Oh, and yes, Carine Roitfeld is coming along for the ride. What’s more, if Ackermann is out of the running at Chanel, does that mean its Alber Elbaz’s when Karl purportedly retires in 2012?

Referencing shades of Givenchy and vintage Tom Ford, the Turkish designer Hakaan Yildirim turned out a collection of modernized Studio 54 fare that would be a hit with former Beatrice Inn attendees and Le Baron enthusiasts alike.

The relatively new designer is best known for his love of come-hither structured sexiness and his elite fashion friends–namely Carine Roitfeld (she put him on the map three seasons back) and his creative director Mert Alas (of the photog duo Mert & Marcus).

Although Carine was not in attendance last night, there were plenty of A-list catwalkers to make up for her absence. Mariacarla Boscono opened the show–a progression of smoldering pieces in black, white, gray, red, and nude. Standout looks included silk tuxedo jackets (a key item for fall), precisely tailored pants, and a gown worn by Daphne Groeneveld that looked like the modern-day interpretation Madame X’s gown in John Singer Sargent’s famous portrait (but with more side boob).

Some interesting gossip has emerged out of the Stefano Pilati-YSL rumor mill.

According to Hint mag, Stefano Pilati is indeed being ousted at YSL and will be replaced by Hedi Slimane (apparently Raf Simons and Olivier Theyskens were considered, as we have suggested before, but were reportedly put off by Pierre Berge’s “control-freakish ways”).

But more interestingly, Hint is reporting that Carine Roitfeld will consult for YSL with Slimane at the helm, if (and this is a big if) she doesn’t launch Harper’s Bazaar in France. Say wha!? It’s kind of surprising to hear Roitfeld’s name linked to another magazine so quickly following her departure from Vogue Paris. After news broke that Roitfeld was leaving the mag, she told Cathy Horyn at the Times that after 10 years as EIC at Vogue Paris she wanted to “do something different.” Staying in the glossy fashion world to launch a rival mag to Vogue Paris doesn’t seem so “different” but could it be true?

As darkness fell on the first day of New York Fashion Week, we headed west to check out some art courtesy of Vladimir Restoin-Roitfeld’s curation, and show off our faux fur at PETA’s fashion week party.

The first stop was a warehouse on the desolate Washington Street where Vladimir Restoin Roitfeld and Andy Valmorbida were hosting RETNA: The Hallelujah World Tour. The open and dim space smelled of fresh paint (there were splatters of it on the floor) and graffiti artist RETNA’s canvases filled with abstract black and white symbols lined the walls. The crowd, sipping on what we’re pretty sure was straight vodka, was as eclectic as the art itself. Fashion folk like Eddie Borgo and proud mama Carine Roitfeld mingled with a young flock of skateboarders (boards in tow), older women in hulking fur coats, and disheveled yet chic Parisian-looking men.

News just broke that Gisele Bündchen will cover Emmanuelle Alt‘s first issue of Vogue Paris. It should hit newsstands in March.

Modelinia reports that the Super was shot in St. Barts by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matatin. But what will she wear?

We’d bet several dollars–if it wasn’t, you know, illegal–that Bündchen will be decked out in Balenciaga for this spread.

After less than a month of speculation, Vogue Paris has announced that its new editor-in-chief is Emanuelle Alt.

Alt, a stylist known most recently for her work with Balmain and Isabel Marant, will replace Carine Roitfeld immediately, according to the magazine’s website. And here’s where we offload some gossip:

According to our reliable sources, Roitfeld and Alt haven’t been getting along recently. Roitfeld went to Jonathan Newhouse, complaining that “something had to be done” about the situation. Newhouse, “fed up” with Roitfeld’s shady dealings–that Balenciaga thing we reported on a year ago, the stuff Racked reported on last month–told the editor that the thing to be done was her resignation.

Media is evolving at the breakneck speed of Twitter and traditional print outlets and new media ones are constantly reorganizing and reshuffling mastheads to ensure that their publications continue to rake in advertisers and stay alive. The world of fashion media is no exception. This year there was so much playing of editorial musical chairs, we devised little flow charts to try to keep it all straight.

From Carine Roitfeld’s shocking departure from Vogue Paris to the fat-hating Marie Claire blogger who pissed just about everyone off, here are the top ten fashion media stories of the year.

Carine Canned? Racked is reporting that Carine Roitfeld was fired from French Vogue, citing the EIC as the reason for the mag being blacklisted at Balenciaga and Bernard Arnault threatening to pull all LVMH ads from the next issue. “Basically, she was fired,” a source tells Racked. Quel scandale! Not sure if we buy it though. {Racked}

Royal Dress Update: HuffPo’s royal’s correspondent is reporting that while the odds have Bruce Oldfield to design Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, she’ll likely wear a lesser known British designer who has dressed all the Middleton women (sister Pippa and mother Carole included) over the years. {Huffington Post}

When We Have a Lesbian President, ALT Knows How She Should Dress: In her Sunday Times column, Maureen Down mused about whether we are ready for a gay commander in chief following the landmark vote to repeal “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell.” She consulted André Leon Talley who told her that he imagines a lesbian president “who looks like Julie Andrews and dresses to meet heads of state in ‘ankle-length skirts, grazing the Manolo Blahnik kitten heels.’ She would save her ‘butch trouser suit for weekends at Camp David and vacation hikes in Yellowstone. No plaid lumberjack shirts at any time.’” {NYT}
