Last night Lady Gaga was on hand in NYC to cut the ribbon of her highly anticipated Gaga’s Workshop at Barneys. Sadly, we missed Gaga’s giant-scissors-wielding entrance, but she clearly owned that custom-designed-by-Karl-Lagerfeld Chanel hoop-skirted ball gown.

After a quick sweep through the crowd (and a kiss for a lucky Bryanboy, who was wearing an enormous yellow feathered coat) Lady Gaga was gone, leaving behind a party loaded with blue and pink cocktails and a huge room full of Gaga-themed holiday goodies. Read more »

Here’s the deal: You may have seen the 22-page portfolio Steven Meisel shot for W‘s September 2011 issue. The editorial features black and white “before” and “after” shots of big-name models like Raquel Zimmermann, Jessica Stam, Karen Elson and Carolyn Murphy. The story was a big get for the mag, considering Meisel had never worked with W before. Thing is, Meisel produced a strikingly similar editorial for Vogue Italia‘s August issue.

WWD noticed the nearly identical spreads, and has it from a source that Meisel may have financed the Italian Vogue shoot on W’s dime. Neither W nor Steven Meisel has commented on the issue, however a fallout–or at least a fault line–is bound to happen soon.

PARIS–In general, I’m a pretty impatient person. Which means if I roll up to a party and there’s a massive queue, I typically just walk away.

But I really wanted to attend last night’s Roberto Cavalli 40th anniversary celebration at École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. Probably because it’s the first day of Paris Fashion Week and I still have the energy to do more than write. Also, Cavalli knows how to throw a proper party. I knew it would be good. At least the food would be good.

So around 10pm, I left my hotel and headed over. As I walked up to the gate, I instantly knew that arriving an hour and a half after start time was a bad idea. Yet I was able to easily weasel my way to the velvet rope. They weren’t allowing anyone in at that moment, but I assumed it would be soon enough.

Estée Lauder’s just announced their newest brand ambassadors, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski. They’re both firsts—Liu’s the first Chinese model to be signed to the luxury beauty brand (and she was the first Asian model to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway, too). Meanwhile, Constance is the first French girl to land a Lauder campaign. They [...]

Sometimes, I miss fashion trivia. Like for this, I’d ask you which almost super-model whose face you know like the back of your hand starred in a late 90′s movie with people like Adrien Brody, the Chief from Grey’s Anatomy (and Alex) and the guy who dressed up as Will Shakespeare in Ten Things I [...]

Buh-Bye Kate

Well not really, but Gisele’s gone and bumped Kate Moss from her number one spot on MDC’s icon list. Was it her marriage? Her numerous campaigns? Her ability to move flawlessly from Victoria’s Secret to Louis Vuitton? Maybe it’s because she’s one of the few models who really is just a model without a slash [...]

We thought Gwyneth Paltrow’s July Bazaar cover was just a very delayed reaction to Iron Man – turns out it’s part of a 40-page Estée Lauder campaign that continues within the magazine, just barely disguised as editorial. The cosmetic giant placed the four faces of their new perfume, Sensuous, throughout the issue, even though the [...]

Cross dressing now seems more normal than Britney, thanks to Hairspray and Top Model, and the fact that Britney’s insane. But is it chicer than Doutzen in Lanvin? Carine Roitfeld seems to think so – at least for this month. She’s paired our favorite downtown tranny, Miss Andre J, with photographer Bruce Weber and the [...]

We like Hilary Rhoda as the face of Estee Lauder, but her new ads with Carolyn Murphy strike us as lacking. Why? Because Hilary and Carolyn are twelve years apart (she’s 20, Carolyn is 32). And yet, they look exactly the same – the matte skin, the cloudy expression, the plasticine smile. It’s true that [...]
