Here’s something that we never saw coming: hip downtown clothing line Sophomore is partnering with Kmart Fashion. Really.

Sophomore has teamed up with the mass retailer for a limited edition tee shirt, and it’s actually pretty cute! It features the slogan “#FashionWeekProblems,” which is the hash tag Kmart Concierge at @KmartFashion will be using this Fashion Week to help out those in need during the shows. The idea is that if you tweet at them with the unique hash tag and your fashion week woe, someone wearing the Sophomore shirt will arrive with whatever you need, from lip balm to tights (an available metered cab would be ideal, too, wink wink). Ever notice how sometimes the most stylish girls at fashion parties are behind the DJ booth? Well, for the most part, that’s no happy accident. Over the past few years, it seems a crop of young, well-dressed fashion girls has emerged as the go-to djs for fashion parties. Brands these days want girls who look the part. What’s interesting about them is that almost none of them are just djs for a living. Most have some other role in the fashion or entertainment industry that occupies their daylight hours, while their nights are spent looking cute with headphones as their main accessory. Tonight, for example, we’re headed to a party that model/actress/musician Solange Knowles is dj’ing.

The following 10 girls have varying degrees of actual DJ talent, but what they do have in common is an innate sense of style that we all want to emulate. Here’s a little guide to who these girls are.

For Resort 2012, Imitation designer Tara Subkoff went back to her cinematic roots, directing a short silent film starring a glittering bevy of it-girls, from Becka Diamond to Nicole Trunfio, Lissy Trullie, Karima Adebibe, and Cecile Winckler.

Many of these same ladies–as well as requisite sexy actors Marc Ruffalo and Liev Schrieber–mixed and mingled at the Jane Hotel’s bar last night, where Subkoff showed the short in a continual loop. (Charlotte Ronson, Chrissie Miller, Shanea Grimes, Sky Ferreira, Karen Elson, and Jen Brill were there, too.)

Several were wearing the Imitation resort/holiday line, a collection of flouncy dresses and high-waisted trousers, all with a vintage feel.

The Museum of Art and Design played host to Monday night’s Rare Earth’s Fluorescent Ball, and dare we say it was a full on fashion prom complete with art nerds, wannabes, music geeks, and those ever-present popular kids. Throw in some fluoro outfits, (some good, some bad) and you have a Prosecco-filled Monday evening that certainly boggled Tyson Beckford’s mind. We spotted him observing the room from its sidelines with puzzled awe.

Although the evening’s weather wasn’t up to par, energetic DJ sets by scenesters like Paul Sevigny and Chrissie Miller certainly lightened everyone’s mood, especially the cork-wedge clad group of (probable) financiers whose bump-its and fist-pumping skills proved to be an unlikely start to a wild dance party.
The event served as the museum’s young patrons gala with a sale of one-off fluorescent works including a light-up noose—any takers? Always Mister Popular, Paper‘s Luigi Tadini favored the video installations on display, “its always nice to see movement,” he attested. Aesthetic technician and designer Christian Cota–there to co-chair and cheer on contributing artist friend Anne Grauso–said, “You need light to make fluorescent come alive, it doesn’t always work with fashion.” Rather fitting as this was evident in a few choice attendees’ ensembles, though we won’t single out offenders.
