Paris Haute Couture, an exhibit which explores the history of couture, may be taking place at the Hôtel de Ville right now–but just up the Seine, Raf Simons gave his own fashion history lesson at his fall 2013 Dior show.
Held under the golden dome of the Hôtel des Invalides, the show space set an uplifting tone for the collection: Giant reflective mylar balloons floated randomly throughout the space, and images of Magritte-style blue sky and white cumulous clouds were projected on the floor.
The setting was the perfect compliment to a collection which explored the creative process–the experiences and the obsessions, and in this case the art–that has shaped fashion design today as well as in Christian Dior’s day.
Naturally, journalists are curious about Simons’s opinion of the designer he replaced–and he’s been pretty forthcoming. Most recently, he went so far as to suggest that Christian Dior would probably not be a fan of John Galliano’s eccentric designs.
All the glamour of the Paris shows. All the comfort of your sweat pants.
Couture week may have had to compete for attention with the fireworks here in the US, but plenty of people still took notice. Aveeno has reportedly asked Jennifer Aniston to be the new face of the brand–and they’re allegedly offering her eight-figures to sweeten the deal. But given Aniston’s impossibly glowy skin (and at 43, no less), we’d say she’d be worth every penny.{NY Post} Rad Hourani is set to debut his premiere haute couture collection–and the first Read more →
One of our most astute commenters brought up the issue of John Galliano‘s team in the studio and the atelier at Dior and his namesake label. Will they all be let go? Will most of them be spared? And while we’re at it, will the John Galliano label continue at all?
We decided to ask some Paris fashion industry vets for insight.
Tea isn’t a new note in perfume, but it definitely seems to be picking up steam as a fragrance trend. (Bad tea pun. Sorry.) As tea shops become more and more ubiquitous and tea is increasingly touted for its healthy effects, it makes sense that it’s popping up in non-potable form.
Jean-Claude Ellena is generally credited for starting the tea-as-fragrance craze. He created a scent made of jasmine and violet leaf tea and used it to perfume Bulgari jewelry stores. This morphed into several successful tea scents for Bulgari.
Tea is a subtle fragrance that blends well with more traditional notes to produce fragrances that smell really light and modern.

It was tough to pick just five girls from Paris Fashion Week’s abundance of sartorial greatness, but we did our best. We have a hard time ever excluding Alexa Chung, who looked adorable at Miu Miu. Lou Doillon is a Paris fashion icon in her own right and did not disappoint at Chanel. Rachel Bilson looked lovely at Dior. Anja Rubik rocked long, flowy Chloé and Caroline Sieber got a head start on Spring’s white trend at Valentino.

This week, the beautiful Julianne Moore wore a gorgeous Erdem gown while Camilla Belle kept it short and sweet in Dior. Kirsten Dunst took a casual stroll through SoHo in an awesome Miu Miu dress while another blond rocked the red carpet in blue Rodarte. Freida Pinto can’t not look gorgeous, but this Oscar de la Renta number certainly doesn’t hurt.
Ever wonder where great vintage comes from? In some cases, it surfaces at auctions, where dealers can acquire trunk loads of frayed 1930s chiffon dresses for pennies against the final retail price.
But there’s another side to clothing auctions, one in which London-based fashion auctioneer Kerry Taylor specializes—museum-quality vintage and haute couture.
