The Best (and Biggest) Hats from the Kentucky Derby

There aren’t many red carpets that can bring together the likes of Lauren Conrad, Kid Rock, beauty queens, and Smokey Robinson, but it happened this weekend at the 139th Kentucky Derby.

The biggest attraction–sometimes literally–at the Kentucky Derby is the head wear. From matchy-matchy hats to ginormous flowers, race-goers had fun with their hats this year.

Fashion Is Funny: A Look Back at Saturday Night Live‘s Best Fashion Impersonations

We may or may not have shed a tear during Kristen Wiig’s “Ruby Tuesday” send-off that capped this weekend’s Saturday Night Live season finale. One Day You Win, and the Next Day, You’re Auf’d: Where Are Project Runway‘s Winners Now?

One Day You Win, and the Next Day, You’re Auf’d: Where Are Project Runway‘s Winners Now?

To most unknown and/or struggling designers trying to break into the industry, winning the grand prize on a season of Project Runway sounds like an absolute dream come true: $100,000, a major fashion mag editorial, an ultra-expensive technology suite, website partnerships, instant name recognition, and endless opportunities for publicity.

But what happens when the cameras stop rolling? When Tim Gunn is no longer hovering over your shoulder in the workroom, telling you what ‘worries’ him? Or when, instead of competing against 15 designers in a challenge, you’re competing with potentially hundreds of thousands of designers around the world?

With Project Runway All Stars (finally!) premiering tonight, it got us wondering about all the seriously talented individuals to whom Heidi Klum never said “auf wiedersehen.”

Agyness Deyn and Her Model Friends Fete the Launch of Naag.com

Monday’s naag.com launch party at Mary Queen of Scots felt less like a “fashion party” and more like a bunch of cool kids hanging out at a hip LES bar–in a good way.

If you’re wondering what naag.com is, I think it is best described on the site’s Who We Are page: “Naag is Fiona and Aggy and our friends. Talking about things we live and do and see and feel. We live in New York and like to hang out.”

That also pretty much sums up the party. And if its attendees were any indication, their friends are people like Karen Elson, Coco Rocha, Seth Meyers, Christian Siriano, Becka Diamond, Rebecca Minkoff, Eddie Borgo, and, according to the tip sheet, an incognito Marion Cotillard. To compliment the venue’s British theme, AllSaints sponsored and Agyness was dressed head-to-toe in the UK-based brand.

Ten Questions For Project Runway

Ten Questions For Project Runway

1) In a challenge inspired by New York City, the designers chose the Statue of Liberty and the Brooklyn Bridge? I’m not suggesting the Upper West Side as inspiration, but how cliché.

2) What was the point of the Mandarin Oriental scene? It made me want champagne. There was too much filler on the show this week.

3) Speaking of filler, was that the longest Garnier commercial ever? In the middle of the show?

4) Did Gretchen deliver her most passive aggressive comment to date? “Michael C reminds me of myself five years ago.” What does that mean? When you had more humanity and a sense of humor, Gretchen?

Meredith Melling-Burke On Gossip Girl and Other Major FNO News

Fashion’s Night Out is a little more than a month away and more details are being revealed around the world as the night gets closer.

For one, Hamish Bowles and Lauren Santo-Domingo will not be the only Vogue editors to appear on the September 20 FNO-themed Gossip Girl episode. Vogue market editor Meredith Melling-Burke will also make an appearance and we hear she’s wearing Chloe.

In other news, Payless is offering Facebook fans a chance to win a 5-day trip to NYC for Fashion’s Night Out. The “All Fashion Pass” will include access to the Vogue fashion show and a meet and greet with Payless designers Christian Siriano, Patricia Field, Lela Rose and Isabel Toledo. This actually sounds really cool.

From NYC to Australia, Chanel to Billy Reid, we’ve got the scoop on even more major FNO events you won’t want to miss.

Christian Siriano, Models, Victims of CraigsList Scam

Christian Siriano, Models, Victims of CraigsList Scam

A few days ago we noticed a strange tweet from Christian Siriano. It read: “fyi girls i have never and do not ever look for models on craigslist or online. these photo shoots i’m hearing about are scams! be careful!”

Part of the beauty and danger of CraigsList is that the scams are mixed right in with the legitimate postings. Sometimes the scams are obvious (like that Manhattan apartment that costs $1 a month as long as you occasionally walk around in your underwear) but sometimes they’re harder to suss out. A lot of modeling gigs are posted on CL. A recent scan through the listings of model jobs yields two seemingly legitimate postings for fit models for Banana Republic and American Eagle and a suspect request for “NEW PEOPLE TO THE INDUSTRY WHO HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING AN ACTOR AND OR MODEL” for Tyler Perry and Oprah’s OWN Network.

So we reached out to Christian Siriano to get the story behind his cryptic warning to models about CraigsList. Apparently Siriano has been targeted by a CL scam since February. Posters falsely representing the designer claimed to be looking for models for a Christian Siriano catalog–which doesn’t exist.
