All Hail the Triumphant Return of the Original Supermodels on December’s Harper’s Bazaar UK (Cindy, Naomi, Helena, They’re All There!)

We reported last week that V magazine seemed to be heralding the return of the supermodel with its four model covers, but here’s a nostalgic nod to the ladies who started it all. The December issue of Harper’s Bazaar UK features five of the original “supes”: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Yasmin Le Bon, Read more →

Happy Independence Day! A Roundup of the Tackiest Celeb Flag Fashion

It’s the Fourth of July, and we’re lucky enough to live in a country that allows us the freedom to dress like total jackasses if we want to. Patriotic dressing never gets old and is a perennial favorite of celebs. The problem is that it rarely looks classy, and is almost always tacky. Probably because our flag is red, white, and blue with stars and stripes? That’s a lot going on for one outfit.

The ironic thing is that a lot of the celebs wearing the Stars and Stripes aren’t even from the US. (Hopefully they just think it’s cool, kinda how Americans think the Union Jack is cool.)

Click through for the most glorious sartorial abuses of our American flag, courtesy of many celebrities.

Blast from the Past: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Duran Duran Make Fashion History

Blast from the Past: Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Duran Duran Make Fashion History

Earlier this week, some sort of huge photo/video shoot happened in London involving Duran Duran, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana, Harper’s Bazaar UK and super models Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova and Yasmin Le Bon (wife Duran Duran’s Simon). The next day, Duran Duran’s John Taylor tweeted “I’m coming down from a glamour overdose. I’ve a glamover” and Harper’s Bazaar UK‘s Lucy Yeomans tweeted, “This has to have been one of the most extraordinary days of my life. A little bit of fashion history made!”

We first found out that a supermodel-y Duran Duran video was in the works a few weeks ago when Naomi was rumored to be rounding up a group of supermodel friends for them. The actual shoot was in London, not the South of France, as was rumored (unless another part of the shoot took place there). Also, Kate Moss, who was rumored to be taking part, did not seem to be involved with this week’s shoot, unfortunately.

Lucky for us, just about everyone who was involved in the supershoot is a ferocious internet oversharer and, thanks to Fashionologie‘s trolling, we already have pictures and a few details of what will culminate in, at least, a serialized viral music video for Duran Duran’s single “Girl Panic” and a Harper’s Bazaar UK cover shoot.

Last Night’s Parties: Maripol Celebrates Her Legacy, Chloe Sevigny Celebrates Hugo Boss

One of the people Lady Gaga just name checked as a seminal “author in the library of pop culture” hosted a book signing last night. No, it wasn’t Prince, Cindy Crawford, Marilyn Monroe, or Francis Bacon (Gaga’s words, not ours).

It was Maripol, stylist to ’80s statement-makers Debbie Harry, Grace Jones, Cher, and Madonna. Steven Meisel may have shot that iconic Like A Virgin album cover, but Maripol’s the one who slipped Madonna into the rubber bracelets and crucifix jewelry that sparked a trillion copycats. So, yah, we’d say Gaga gushing over Maripol’s cultural legacy is pretty on point.

While Maripol certainly had a heavy hand in fashion history, the woman’s still very much relevant today. Last year, she designed neon t-shirts and rubber jewelry for Marc by Marc; last night, she continued her latest moment in the sun (or torrential downpour, as luck would have it) with a jam-packed signing of her Little Red Riding Hood.
