This week, Joe Fresh celebrates its one year anniversary doing business in America.
In my homecountry of Canada, Joe Fresh, founded in 2006, is already a really big deal, with 300 stores nationwide and a dedicated following eager to snap up its fashion-forward, super affordable duds. While it’s new to the States, it’s wasted no time in following a similarly lightening fast expansion: In just 12 months, Joe Fresh has launched four standalone stores in New York and opened up 680 shop-within-shops at JC Penney.
It’s a dizzying pace, but as I learned on Wednesday, when I spent the morning hanging out with founder and creative director Joe Mimran at the company’s New York headquarters, that’s just kind of how he rolls.
The first official day of “spring” is tomorrow. Apparently. (With another snow day yesterday we’re starting to doubt spring will ever come.) Even though the weather is still kind of miserable, we’ve already started our spring shopping lists. Here’s what we’re all craving if warmer weather ever happens. Fingers crossed.
The invites have been sent out, the seating charts are being filled, and fashion folks everywhere are resoling their Manolos (and setting their DVRs–can’t miss Girls!): Fashion week is upon us!
I love the look of leather pants. But the price? Not so much. And, when I’ve tried to work the faux-leather look (I once owned a pair of pleather pants from Trash and Vaudeville) I wind up feeling uncomfortable and sweaty in strange areas.
So, I’m really happy with the denim industry’s latest thing: Waxed jeans.
Last week I saw this sweater on a mannequin in Club Monaco and knew I had to have it on sight. I had to wait a full day until the sweater actually arrived in the store for purchase (instead of just on display in the windows), and it was definitely worth it. I had already fallen in love with the look of the sweater, but as soon as I touched it I also fell for the texture. The website says it’s made of wool, nylon and alpaca, but I like to refer to it as soft, cozy goodness.
In 2012, the fashion universe sort of reset itself. Raf Simons got what he deserved—Dior—while Alexander Wang got what very few could have predicted: Balenciaga.
Now, the question is: What sort of seismic shifts will happen in 2013? From brand expansion, to designer debuts, here are the 10 labels you’ll want to keep an eye on this year.
Click through to see which brands we think will make a splash in 2013 and why.
Did Madonna steal from Patricia Field? The “Vogue” hats being sold as merch on her MDNA tour look a little too familiar, according to Field’s camp. (Then again, Madonna did come up with the song. There’s also that magazine…) {Patricia Field Tumblr}
Why did Life and Style use a three-year-old bikini pic of Kourtney Kardashian for their cover story about her post-baby bod? {HuffPo}
Club Monaco has released their first Spring 2013 ad campaign, styled by Aleksandra Woroniecka and shot by Venetia Scott on the streets of NYC, and the images are gorgeous! {Fashionista Inbox}
I love a long-sleeved mini dress. It shows off a lot of leg and still feels classy because you’re covered up on top. I’ve been eyeing this number from Club Monaco for about a month and I finally took the plunge earlier this week.
And I’m so happy I did.
It’s getting cold out there. Really cold. So cold that the only thing I want to wear is this old grey sweatshirt hoodie I have, which really isn’t acceptable for public viewing. So I had to find an alternative.
Over the weekend I picked up this cashmere hoodie, which I found while browsing at Club Monaco in my neighborhood–I haven’t taken it off since.
Are these earrings from the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2013 show racist? Some people are crying foul over these and the matching prints that went down the runway. {HuffPo}
The full editorial from Vogue Paris starring Kate Moss and George Michael has hit the internet, and even though we still don’t quite get it, the photos are stunning. {Design Scene}
Kristen Bell stars in Target’s first shoppable video, called “Falling for You.” It’s a romantic comedy. Really. {FabSugar}
The Fourth of July falls in the middle of the week this year, making it incredibly annoying for trying to sneak anywhere for a long weekend. So we recommend just taking the whole damn week off and going to the beach. To help you pack, we’ve gathered up 10 cute beach bags–many of which are Read more →
