Here Are 10 Great Bags That Cost Less Than $300 (We Even Found an Alexander Wang)

Sometimes it feels like everyone in New York City is carrying either a Proenza Schouler PS1 or a huge Chanel bag. While dropping $2,000 on a bag is an “investment” for some people, for others it’s just plain out of reach. We were convinced that there had to be fantastic, high-quality, well-designed bags out there for less than $300 (which don’t make you resort to buying Kardashian knock-off bags.) And we were right!

From the high street stores to some of our favorite designers–like Alexander Wang and Marc Jacobs–we found 10 bags to fit most budgets (we’re talking $300 or under here) and pretty much any style.

Fashionista’s FNO Guide #1: Where to Find the Celebrities

We can’t believe Fashion’s Night Out (and, thus, fashion week) is only a week away. As anyone who has ever been to a Fashion’s Night Out is probably aware, they pack enough events to fill an entire week into just a few hours, so pre-FNO planning is key. While Vogue‘s interactive map is quite handy, that is still a lot of stores to go through. So, we’re preparing a few of our own Fashion’s Night Out guides.

This one is for those of you who just want to see some famous people. We don’t blame you! Fashion’s Night Out offers rare opportunities to get up close and personal with real Hollywood stars. Maybe Tilda Swinton and Ne-Yo will become friends or Daniel Radcliffe will get wasted or Alexa Chung will debut a new haircut or Seth Meyers will screw up your drink or the Real Housewives of New York will be insane (that last one is the most likely)! Here’s our guide to where all your favorite celebs will be.

Coach Classics Launches New, Fashion-y Colors and We’re Obsessed

When Coach launched its Classics collection in June, it’s safe to say the entire Fashionista office was instantly obsessed. (Okay, there are only four of us, but still.)

Anyway, while we coveted the truly classic styles in truly classic colors like brown, navy, and black, we’re doubly excited about the latest shipment of bags, which come in candy shades such as vermillion. My pick? The Madison Satchel in lime.

Click through to view the new collection, and head over to Coach to order yours before they sell out.

Reed Krakoff Watches Ultimate Fighting and Six Other Unexpected Answers to Our Seven Questions

Reed Krakoff is having his banner moment. From the launch of his eponymous brand to that New Yorker profile to being honored by Parsons, the Manhattan designer is the talk of the industry. And maybe more importantly, the talk of those working and living outside of fashion’s bubble.

While we’ve heard lots about Krakoff’s social life and his work at Coach, we thought it would be fun to discuss a few more intimate topics, including the creative director’s love of…Ultimate Fighting? (Seriously. It’s kind of amazing.) Click through to read Krakoff’s often-surprising answers to our seven questions.

Gwyneth Paltrow Is Coach’s New International Brand Ambassador

She cooks! She sings! She wins Oscars! She has perfect straight hair! And now, she’s landed a gig as Coach’s brand ambassador.

Coach celebrates its 70th anniversary this year, and the company tapped Gwyneth Paltrow to front its fall and spring international campaign. The ads are in the can, having just been shot by Peter Lindbergh on a Manhattan rooftop. We won’t see them here in the US, though; they’ll be used in certain markets in Asia and Europe. Expect to see the first ads drop in September in international glossies.

Reed Krakoff told WWD that Gwynnie was a “natural choice…She embodies the spirit, energy and elegance of the Coach brand.” And Gwyneth evinced some hometown pride saying, “Coach (is the) quintessential New York brand.”

Coach Honors Mother’s Day With a Sweet Facebook Campaign

When many of us think of Coach, we think of our moms’ penchant for those classic bags. So Coach is using that idea to further engage avid Facebook users, asking them to share their favorite “Coach and Mom” memories. The brand also asked some fashion editors and bloggers to participate, and since I’m very sentimental about Coach, I happily agreed. Click through to read stories by Teen Vogue‘s Eva Chen, Fashionista contributor/Essence Online Fashion Editor Zandile Blay, and more. Or submit one yourself. Happy (Early) Mother’s Day!

Fashion News Roundup: Johnny Depp Wins a Hat Award, Matthew Williamson Disses Kate Middleton and Karl Shoots an Ice Cream Commercial With Rachel Bilson

Johnny Depp Takes Home an Award for His Dedication to Headwear: Johnny Depp’s been awarded the “Hat Person Of The Year” award by the Headwear Association. We nominate Anna Dello Russo for next year’s award, in the category of “Fruit Millinery.” {VogueUK}

Matthew Williamson Thinks Kate Middleton Isn’t a Fashion Bunny: Matthew Williamson just launched his bridal line, but we suspect he won’t be dressing Kate Middleton. “Kate isn’t a fashion bunny,” [Williamson said.] “I don’t know why everyone in fashion is waiting to see what she wears. I’m, like, thinking: get over it.” {Telegraph UK}

Karl Lagerfeld Shoots Rachel Bilson in a Tiara For an Ice Cream Commercial: Rachel Bilson was snapped in Paris on the set of a Magnum ice cream commercial which Karl Lagerfeld is directing. She was wearing a bathrobe and a tiara. We are anxiously awaiting the final product. (And suddenly want an ice cream bar.) {PopSugar}

Simon Doonan and Reed Krakoff on Inspiration, Celebrity and Working Your Ass Off

It was a meeting of two fabulous and very creative minds at Parsons The New School for Design last night. Alumn and “new” designer Reed Krakoff, who is also the Executive Creative Director at Coach, teamed up with the very funny Simon Doonan to discuss…fashion, of course. Moderated by Simon Collins, dean of the School of Fashion, this series of discussions is aimed at giving students a glimpse at the reality of working in the fashion industry and the chance to meet some pretty darn successful industry leaders. Last night’s chat coincides with the upcoming Parsons Fashion Benefit on May 9, where Krakoff will be recognized as an honoree for significant contributions to the field of design.

The evening’s discussion centered around several major industry ideas and issues, including what sparks inspiration, sustainability in design and the role of fashion in modern culture.

Oprah’s Favorite Fashion Things, Then and Now

Oprah’s Favorite Fashion Things, Then and Now

Oprah‘s final “Favorite Things” episode aired this past week. If you haven’t watched the crowd reactions already, you should (or check out audience reactions from the whole last season on this awesome tumblr). Everyone went nuts. Of course, if I was being gifted a 2012 Volkswagon Beetle, an iPad, and some Le Creuset cookware, I’d be doing a happy dance too.

Having your product on Oprah‘s “Favorite Things” things list is akin to having your book chosen for her book club–meaning it will sell. And often, Oprah’s favorite stuff is beauty and fashion-related (but the fashion tends to be on the comfort-end–nothing wrong with that). Previously Oprah-endorsed favorite things like Spanx and Uggs became ubiquitous best-sellers after earning a spot on the “Favorite Things” list, according to AOL’s Small Business site. Her “Favorite Things” episode has even saved some companies from the brink of bankruptcy.

So we decided to take a look at this year’s fashion and beauty-related “favorite things” as well as “favorite things” of years past (yes, J.Lo’s velour sweatsuit was on the list in ’02). Are any of them your favorite things too?
