Coachella Fashion Mistakes I’ve Made So You Don’t Have To

Coachella Fashion Mistakes I’ve Made So You Don’t Have To

That’s right, Coachella’s not over yet. So we asked our contributor Jo Piazza to share some hard lessons she’s learned at Coachellas past.

It’s the place where the good and the bad meet the beautifully boho and the shamefully shiftless. Rocking out to Vampire Weekend and Jurassic Five while soaking up the sun seems to naturally lend itself to a style best described as homeless spring breaker or slutty Pocahontas.

We understand. You look at pictures of Kate Bosworth and Katy Perry running about Indio without shoes or pants and you think, “I can be that free.”

You can’t. I thought I could be that free. You know what it gave me: Two broken toes, a fanny pack tan line, a fight with Paris Hilton and a rash.

Follow my sage advice and don’t let your last weekend at Coachella be a disaster, fashion or otherwise.

The Stars Come Out for a Post-Coachella Party with AnOther Mag

We thought Coachella ended Sunday, but at the AnOther Magazine/AnOther Man party at Milk Studios in Los Angeles on Tuesday, we felt like maybe there’s always a little Coachella in LA.

Editor-in-Chief Jefferson Hack historically throws edgy, slightly unconventional, star-studded parties to fete his edgy, slightly unconventional, star-studded bi-annual publications. Partnering with Milk Studios co-owner Mazdack Rassi, Hack did not deviate from his fail-safe formula, with stars like Joshua Jackson, Orlando Bloom, Andrej Pejic, Liz Goldwyn, Sky Ferreira, Frankie Rayder, and China Chow packed into Milk’s airy and gorgeous LA digs.

Marc Jacobs Turns 50, Carine Roitfeld Faces Baby Animal Backlash, and Miranda Kerr Is No Angel

Marc Stripped Down: Marc Jacobs and his buff porn star boyf frolicked nearly nekkid in Rio to celebrate the designer’s 50th–then we celebrated him in our own special (and sadly, more clothed) way.

Spring Into a New Jacket: Put away those down puffer coats ’til October, it’s finally spring! And we’ve found the perfect spring jacket to fit your wardrobe.

Baby Animal Backlash: Carine Roitfeld styled Kate Upton with some adorbs baby animals for a Harper’s Bazaar spread–but readers weren’t too keen on the images. Should Roitfeld stick to chicks from now on?

Doing the Cat Diddy: And speaking of… OMG did you hear that Kate Upton and P. Diddy are like, totally together?

Why Investing in Coachella Is Still a Good Idea for Fashion Brands
More Cutoffs Please

Why Investing in Coachella Is Still a Good Idea for Fashion Brands

Glastonbury and Lollapalooza may have come first. Bonnaroo and Bestival may have more indie cred. But no music festival offers a mix of undone glamour, across-the-board genres and good weather quite like Coachella–making it the most “fashion-y” festival of them all. Yet the sponsorship-heavy event is polarizing: Even a passing mention of this Southern California musical festival elicits a range of emotions, from nervous excitement to downright anger. The cool kids think it’s overwrought with hype and inappropriate feather headdresses, yet hardcore festival goers can’t get enough.

Still, fashion bands are clamoring to be involved with Coachella–whether by sponsoring an event, or landing a coveting spot in a festival style market story. So it is still worth it?

Flaunt Magazine Stands By Guantanamo-Themed Coachella Party While Sponsors Pull Out

So Flaunt magazine and Le Baron had the genius idea to throw a Guantanamo-themed Coachella party called ‘New Guantanamo,’ featuring “playful torture.”

Sounds like an excellent politically correct time, right? Flaunt still thinks so.

But apparently the event’s sponsors were not informed of the party’s controversial name–and they’re none to pleased about it.

(But seriously, no more crochet.)

YouTube Makeup Gurus: We’ve all been there: we’ve spotted that perfect cat eye or been desperate to cover up that zit and wondered, “How can I do this?” Luckily, we live in the age of YouTube, where beauty gurus share their knowledge with just a click of a button. Here are 10 of the best tutorials.

Best Tressed Style Bloggers: Though these seven ladies are known better for their clothes than their locks, we think it’s all part of the same stylish parcel. We had to know how these bloggers style their enviable hair.

Finally, NYC’s Answer to Colette: Fashion fans dream of boutiques like Colette in Paris and Corso Como in Milan, so obviously we’re thrilled about FiveStory, NYC’s latest boutique that seeks to fill that niche. The best part? The brain behind the luxury boutique is 26-year old Claire Distenfeld–check out our interview with her.

Coachella is the music festival to end all music festivals, so we always watch to see what fashion trends are going to be big on the circuit.
