Taking fuddy duddy, traditionally American things and turning them into high fashion seems to be a budding trend. (See: Glamping.) The latest target of the luxury fashion world’s makeover is everyone’s favorite holiday tradition: The Christmas Sweater.

Somewhere between classy (as defined by Derek Blasberg) and campy (as defined by Corky St. Clair) is this list of Christmas sweaters from big name designers like Stella McCartney and Marc Jacobs. Thanks to a grand endorsement from Carine Roifeld, Hakaan Yildirim was already a name to know when he received France’s prestigious ANDAM award in 2010. “We’re in Harvey Nichols, Colette, Opening Ceremony–it’s nearly 26 stockists internationally!” he told Fashionista at the awards ceremony in Paris last October.

Now it’s time for another up-and-comer to take advantage of the prize, i.e. €220,000, a mentorship with former Chloe chief exec Ralph Toledano, and the chance to show at Paris Fashion Week. This year’s nominees include Jeremy Laing, Adam Kimmel, Anthony Vaccarello, Commuun, Matthew Harding, and Yiqing Yin. The judges? Pierre Berge, Hillary Alexander, Emmanuelle Alt, Nicole Phelps, Sarah Lerfel from Colette, and Humberto Leon from Opening Ceremony, to name a few.

PARIS–From train tickets to couture goods, the French are all about swap sales these days. But how about an entire boutique exchange?

Yesterday, Colette tried its first shop swap with London art boutique and communication intelligentsia Kessels Kramer, aka KK Outlet.

The concept goes as such: Sarah Lerfel of Colette and Danielle Pender of KK Outlet each hop to the other side of the channel, bringing along a crème de la crème selection for their new audience. (The terms “pop-up” and “swap” seem equally viral these days, so why not combine the two?)
