Has Gap Finally Found Its Sartorial Groove Under Rebekka Bay?

Gap’s new creative director Rebekka Bay officially started work October 1, 2012–and in Gap’s fall look book, we’re finally getting a glimpse at Bay’s influence. Doesn’t it look expensive? And super sophisticated? And vaguely Cos-like?

Well if it does, it’s probably because Bay, who helped found Cos, had a hand in the way the look book was styled and presented.

World’s Best Clothing Stores: The Fashionista Ranking

Specialty retailers. The high street. Chain stores. The mall. Whatever you want to call them, these are the places that most of us do the majority of our shopping. (I may own a Chanel bag, but my jeans are from Uniqlo.)

Which clothing stores offer the right mix of well-made, gently-priced, well-designed clothes? To rank the world’s best, we tapped our string of correspondents–from Los Angeles to Paris to Tokyo–to tell us which stores they enjoy most. As usual, our methodology is loose, but fair: We factored in fabric and construction quality, price (as it relates to quality), overall desirability, and accessibility to a large audience. And we only considered stores that sell clothes for both men and women. (No discount, department store, or boutique retailers were included.)

Click through for our ten favorites. Which would top your list?

How Sheer Will You Go?

How Sheer Will You Go?

Last weekend, I took a short trip to the UK for a dear friend’s wedding. While I was only there for a few days, I made sure to stop by COS in London, simply because it’s the best high street store in existence. (That is, if you’re over 25 and now look absurd in too-trendy Topshop wares.)

I scored with a sheer, greenish-blue button-up, which I wore yesterday to the YSL show with high-waisted black pants and a pair of Heavy Machine heels. Oh, and a black bra, which shone quite clearly through the translucent top.

When I met up with my fiance for food, he kind of chuckled when he noticed that my bra could be pretty easily discerned by other diners in the restaurant. While he was more bemused than anything, he did think it was hilarious that I was cool with showing it off.

Clearly, sheer is huge this summer.
