Costello Tagliapietra

It’s the first day of New York Fashion Week! We’re optimistic, wide-eyed, and really looking forward to the rest of the week, even though we know by Monday we’ll be grumpy and our feet will hurt.

Today, though, was a great kick-off to the AW12 season. With shows from Richard Chai to Creatures of the Wind, today was a day for great fashion, and we rubbed elbows with our favorite fashion friends like Leandra Medine and Giovanna Randall.

Take a look at NYFW from our perspective. We’ll be sharing our photos with you all week!

Fashion week is less than two weeks away and so our Pre-Fashion Week Mad-Libs begin. For this season’s inaugural questionnaire, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra profess their love of hamburgers and donuts.

If your first thought when you saw this headline was “huh?” don’t worry, it was our first reaction, too.

But it’s true: Disney has gone designer. Jonathan Saunders, Costello Tagliapietra, Victor Glemaud, Henry Holland, and Cassette Playa have each designed a tee based on a Toy Story 3 character in advance of the film’s release tomorrow.

It’s high brow fashion for a low brow flick. But if these (awesome) tees can help some fashion darlings reach Disney’s mass market, more power to them. The tops are $70-$108 at RevolveClothing.com.

So are you a Buzz, Rex, or Woody?

Lauren will be covering the CFDA Awards tonight (in DvF), and while we’ve already showed you some dress options under $1,000, we’re still dreaming about the designer outfits we wish we could wear.

So we’ve compiled our favorite CFDA-appropriate looks from AW10 and SS10; we’ve got it all from Marc Jacobs to A Piece Apart.

I spend a good amount of money at Uniqlo, and I’m a huge fan of their designer collaborations. In fact, I still keep a dress from the Alex Wang 2008 collection and a dress from Steven Alan‘s 2009 collection in frequent rotation.

That’s why I had no trouble waking up early this morning to visit design duo Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra at Uniqlo‘s SoHo location. Not only did I get a sneak peek of the collection before shoppers got a hold of it at 10am–I also got to spend a bit of money! (And most importantly, chat with the designers.)

And let me tell you–I was highly, highly impressed.

Costello Tagliapietra’s designed 14 dresses for Uniqlo. The capsule collection hits stores May 20th and prices range from just $29 to $39. When we interviewed Robert Tagliapietra and Jeffrey Costello last year, they said they’d love to do a lower priced line, on one condition, “I’d love to do that and gear it towards women,” [...]

The last time I went to a Costello show, I wasn’t blown away. In fact, I was pretty disappointed. These guys–who live in my neighborhood and are known for working the lumberjack look long before it was popular among Brooklyn’s finest hipsters–are also known for draping a dress like no one else. But instead of [...]

To say that Francesco Clark is one of the most beloved people in the fashion and beauty industry would be a massive understatement. Anyone who can call him a friend is a lucky person indeed. Fran is the creator of Clark’s Botanicals which we told you a bit about last spring. But here’s a little [...]

Here’s something we never do – the answer to last week’s tent-to-salon blind item was Zac Posen. But it’s not anymore because KCD’s request form (where you list the shows you’d like to attend next to their time and place) says that Zac’s show will be held at the Altman building – a popular albeit [...]

The first solid details on the tentatively titled MAC at Milk shows we’ve been talking about since the cosmetics company decided to end its partnership with IMG leaving Maybelline to jump in as the official makeup sponsor at Bryant Park. And the initial list of designers signed on for events at Milk Studios is very, [...]
