Fashion News Roundup: Courtney Pays Up, Riccardo Tisci Gets Religious, and the Fashion World Bets on Galliano’s Successor

Courtney Love Pays $430k For Dissing Designer: Courtney Love will be paying dearly for ranting on Twitter about Dawn Simorangkir (aka the “Boudoir Queen”), who accused Courtney of ruining her business as a result. Courtney’ll be making payments through 2014. Courtney’s lawyer “doesn’t think she’s using Twitter” anymore. Smart. {The Hollywood Reporter}

Riccardo Tisci Collaborates With Visionaire On Its 60th Issue: Tisci curates the entire issue, which features a never-before-seen Robert Mapplethorpe photo, Carine Roitfeld shot by Karl Lagerfeld, and something with Helmut Lang, though Tisci didn’t say what. The theme is religion, and if fashion is your religion, this will be an issue not to miss. It will be out in June for a mere $425. {Style.com}

“Boudoir Queen” Fashion Designer Dawn Simorangkir Sues Courtney Love For Defamatory Tweets

“Boudoir Queen” Fashion Designer Dawn Simorangkir Sues Courtney Love For Defamatory Tweets

Dawn Simorangkir, who designs Boudoir Queen, a line known for 1920s-inspired frocks and intricate corsets, is suing Courtney Love over defamatory tweets that she claims ruined her fashion career, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Back in March of 2009, Love tweeted something along the lines of that Simorangkir (her married name is Dawn Younger-Smith) was a “drug-pushing prostitute with a history of assault and battery who lost custody of her own child,” and that “she has received a VAST amount of money from me over 40,000 dollars and I do not make people famous and get raped TOO!”

Love had been a devoted fan of Simorangkir’s designs, wearing custom pieces created for her and shopping Boudoir Queen’s popular Etsy shop (more bitterness unraveled on Etsy as well). Things fell apart when, according to Simorangkir, Love refused to pay up for several thousand dollars worth of clothing.

We had some idea that things had gone sour between the two when a crazy commenter war broke out in a story we posted about Love’s love for Boudoir Queen and her Etsy shop. And even if Simorangkir’s career suffered after Love’s tweet-rade, she showed a lovely collection four months ago at Austin Fashion Week.

Fashion News Roundup: Courtney Love is Being Sued, Lea T. on Oprah and Karl Shot a Calendar

Jacob the Jeweler is suing Courtney Love: Celebrities failing to return borrowed goods to designers is a pretty common occurrence, but rarely are those celebrities sued. Granted, it probably isn’t usually $114,000 worth of jewelry. Love‘s excuse? She lost ‘em. {Huffington Post}

Karl’s Calendar: Another fashion-y calendar will soon be released for 2011. It was shot by Karl Lagerfeld and stars Isabeli Fontana, Heidi Mount, Natasha Poly and others. One photo leaked from the Greek and Roman mythology-inspired shoot and it appears to be clothing optional. {Fashionologie}

Oprah Books a Model: Lea T., transgendered model and muse to Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci, is scheduled to film a segment on Oprah to air in February. We’re not sure what the segment is about, but we’ll be setting our DVRs. {Elle.com}

Fashion News Roundup: Madonna Can’t Borrow Lanvin for H&M, Zac Posen Will Design Bella Swan’s Wedding Dress and Karen Elson Cops to Copying Christina Hendricks’ Hair

Keds Goes Back to The 90s: Keds has released a limited edition collection of sneakers called “Alternative to Everything.” We’re absolutely smitten with these 90s-inspired sneakers, which come in acid wash blue, gray denim and red plaid. {Refinery 29}

Copied Dye Job: Christina Hendricks told Harper’s Bazaar that way back when she was a model, she told Karen Elson that she should be a red head and gave Elson her formula. Now Elson’s confessed that Hendrick’s did, in fact, inspire her to go red. {The Cut}

Lanvin x H&M Drama: When Jennifer Lopez and Madonna both asked to “borrow” (i.e. have it before anyone else) pieces from the Lanvin x H&M collection, they were told that no one was allowed to wear the collection before the runway show on November 18. If this is true, then why were a few British celebs pictured wearing pieces from the collection at London’s Lanvin preview? Sure, Roisin Murphy and Sohpie Ellis-Bextor are celebs, but they’re no Madonna. What gives? {Elle}

Fashion News Roundup: Bing Partners With The Row, Florio to IMG, and Donna Karan’s New Online Digs

From Zoe to The Row: Every time one of those weird Bing “commercials” came on during the Rachel Zoe Project, we couldn’t help but think, “Why is Microsoft trying so hard to make Bing happen and why are they targeting Rachel Zoe’s audience?” Now, they’re tapping into another fashion brand–The Row. In an exclusive partnership, Bing.com will air coverage of their SS2011 collection in two “short films.” A teaser is up now. According to a press release, this collab makes sense because, “Bing and The Row share a commitment to visual beauty which combine for a unique partnership.” Okay, Bing. {Bing.com}

Tom Florio to IMG: Tom Florio left his publishing position at Condé Nast over three months ago and we’ve all been wondering what his next job would be. Turns out, IMG created one for him. The company announced today Florio’s appointment as senior advisor for fashion to the office of the chairman, effective October 1. {Daily Front Row}

Awkward Next Top Model: On Monday night’s live finale of Australia’s Next Top Model, host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner, only to find out through her earpiece and correct herself after Kelsey made her heartfelt acceptance speech. Awkward. However, all is not lost for Kelsey. Because of the mistake and closeness of the votes, both her and Amanda (the real winner) won the grand prize which is $25,000, a trip to NYC and a Harper’s Bazaar cover. {DDG Daily}

Last Night’s Warholian Parties: Toasting the End of NYFW

Last Night’s Warholian Parties: Toasting the End of NYFW

Last night, despite tornadoes and sheer exhaustion, I zipped uptown to the Hudson Hotel and then over to the meatpacking district for New York Fashion Week’s final parties.

First of all, I don’t understand places like the Hudson Hotel and Tribeca Grand. Do people actually, like, check into rooms and sleep there? With loud, crazy parties going on all over the hotel every night, who would want to? Just curious. We started the night at the Hudson’s Library for a party that had something to do with W, as there were copies of the October issue scattered about tables and fireplace mantles. The crowd was international, leather-clad, and kind of rude.

After that, we stopped by the L.A.M.B. after party in a gallery on West 13th. It was really cool, and not just because Kanye was mingling with Marc Jacobs.

Last Night’s Parties: Alex Wang’s Carnival, Courtney Love and Hole at Don Hill’s, United Bamboo, and Steak at Peels

Last Night’s Parties: Alex Wang’s Carnival, Courtney Love and Hole at Don Hill’s, United Bamboo, and Steak at Peels

By 9pm last night Leah and I were getting a little loopy: Mostly because we both love to eat and we hadn’t had time to, save for a bag of Pop Chips, since the early morning. So we headed over to Peels–the new restaurant from the Freemans guys–with Britt, who stared at us in awe as we devoured this steak. (In our defense: We shared it! And the bone just made it look bigger!)

Then it was off to Alex Wang’s carnival over by the IAC building. Pretty much every person who works in fashion/has something to do with fashion was there–from Alessandra Ambrosio to MIA, who was supposed to perform but maybe never did? No one seems to have stuck around for it. Fortunately, the parking lot was so massive that it wasn’t crazy crowded–we had an amazing, amazing time. Belvedere vodka sponsored the carnival, which included a carousel–yes, we rode it–bumper cars–line was too long–and a crazy amount of games. Leah won at basketball, Britt won at knocking down the clown heads, I won at nothing–well, maybe ski ball, but there were no prizes for that. All in all, it was the best fashion party I’ve been to in a long time–maybe ever.

While we were at Alex, Dhani was at United Bamboo. She told me this morning that it, too was a grand time. “It was fun–The Wooly drew lots of well-dressed people despite its out of the way location,” she told me. “I didn’t recognize anyone but everyone looked cool.” Fair enough.

After Wang we headed down to Don Hill’s to see Courtney Love perform.

Gossip: Britney Spears is Rumored to be Performing at Don Hill’s Tonight

According to some well-placed sources, Brit Brit will be performing at Don Hill’s tonight. (Weirdly, there was a joke about this in The Daily, but we hear that it’s actually true.) The venue was recently acquired by Paul Sevigny, which means all the cool people now hang out there regularly. Again. (Courtney Love is rumored to be around there this weekend, too.)

By the time Brit hits the stage we’ll probably be asleep, but to all you early-twenty-something-hot-scenesters, it might be worth dropping by.

Let’s Play Guess Who: Taylor Momsen or Courtney Love?

Let’s Play Guess Who: Taylor Momsen or Courtney Love?

Taylor Momsen’s look has long been compared to Courtney Love’s. Both have a rocker chick vibe, wear lingerie as outerwear, sky-high heels, bitty minis, and messy blond locks. Unsurprisingly, Love doesn’t see imitation as flattery and once tweeted incomprehensibly @taylorxmomson (which is not Momsen’s twitter handle) to “shut the FUCK up you overpriveliged bratty bitch…i dont watch tv or read teen mags and gossip rags so i wouldnt know, do NOT still “like my music”please.”

Nevertheless, Momsen keeps looking more and more like Love in her earlier years so we decided to put together this fun little game of Guess Who.

It’s harder than you’d think!

Five Things We Can’t Stand About Courtney Love’s Fashion Blog

Five Things We Can’t Stand About Courtney Love’s Fashion Blog

If you’re reading this while sitting around listening to the new Hole album for the 50th time, wearing yesterday’s makeup and fastening bits of tulle to everything you own, you’re in luck! Rock’s most vicious diva, Courtney Love, has just tweeted about the appearance of a website chronicling every wobbly, drunken step of her aesthetic journey, from the mundane to the bizarre and back again.

The effect of WhatCourtneyWoreToday.com falls somewhere between the intrigue and horror of watching a train wreck and the mysterious captivation of studying a foreign species. While Ms. Love doesn’t seem to be the primary contributor to the site, her Twitter reveals that she is at least helping–plus we’d recognize that twisted garble of run-on sentences and near-synonyms anywhere.

Filled with things you’ll want, things you won’t, and things you just won’t know what to do with (those weird little cartoon illustrations, the phrase “amazeballs”), one thing will be certain: you won’t be able to look away.

Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love
Entertainment

Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love

With the release of Hole’s album in 12 years and new(ish) ramblings about being Kate Moss’s lover, it seems that Courtney Love has found a way to fling herself, tick-like, into the media once again.

So, in an attempt to stay sane as Courtney’s face continues to plague us, we proudly present: Five Things We Can Stand About Courtney Love. (And they said it couldn’t be done!)

1. She shops indie.
Though she caught onto Etsy.com at least three years after the rest of us, we have to give her a hand for supporting all things handmade. Courtney has name-dropped a few of her favorite Etsy designers on numerous occasions, and one seller even implied that Courtney was downright easy to work with. We’ll have to check with her bandmates on that one, but at least she’s supporting independent designers. BoudoirQueen and Liaison seem to be among her faves.
