Sandy wreaked total havoc on a lot of our favorite downtown boutiques. We got in touch with many of them to see how they’re faring in the huricane’s aftermath. Here’s what they’ve done to help themselves and others in the community get back on their feet–find out how you can help bring downtown NYC back!
If you live in New York or Los Angeles, chances are you’re familiar with the store Creatures of Comfort. Nestled in the heart of SoHo on Mulberry Street in NYC and on Melsore Avenue in LA, Creatures of Comfort is exactly a dreamy emporium of smart, beautiful, and, yes, comfortable (mostly) clothing, shoes, and accessories. But there’s more. The woman behind these bi-coastal retail havens, Jade Lai, goes above and beyond the average duties of a store owner. She has a background in architecture which is immediately evident in the design and layout of her stores. She also designs an in-house brand called, you guessed it, Creatures of Comfort, who’s AW12 collection had the best dotty prints and sleek trousers we’ve seen in a while. We caught up with Lai to hear about her inspirations, dreams, and the practical realities of owning a store and designing a line.
Everyone loves Memorial Day because it marks the start of the summer (and because of the long weekend!), but finding something to wear to a barbecue can be a bit of a drag – especially if your usual go-to outfit is a mix of see-through T by Alexander Wang and Miu Miu booties. Raf Simons Leaves Jil Sander: After an emotional final show at Jil Sander, rumors are flying about what he will do next now that Jil Sander is returning to her eponymous label. Sounds like he probably isn’t going to Dior, and with reports emerging Hedi Slimane will replace Stefano Pilati at YSL, we’re more confused than ever.
Marni for H&M: We attended the launch party and brought you the highly anticipated full lookbook. Now, Fashionista is giving away two pieces from the collaboration! Don’t miss out – it ends Monday.
Sparkle, Baby!: Toddlers and Tiaras star Eden Wood along with mother Mickie are launching a line of clothes for the attention-starved child in your life. It’s real, y’all!
Now that New York Fashion Week is over and done with, and we’ve already written our reviews and picked out our favorite collections, we have to wonder: what are we actually going to see in our favorite stores come September? To find out, we asked the buyers from two New York stores that we love Read more →

It’s the holiday season, which means trolling the internet in search of perfect gifts for your friends and family. But despite the mission, we always end up buying for ourselves, too.
To put together a list of the best places to shop for fashion online, we considered breadth and quality of product, easy navigation, customer service, and overall look and feel of each site. We did not include flash sales sites, as it’s difficult to judge something on product when that aspect changes daily. And we didn’t rank these stores, because every site is so different. What’s your favorite place to shop online?

Last night Fashionista teamed up with United Bamboo, Julia Frakes, and Creatures of Comfort to host a fête celebrating United Bamboo’s 2011 Cat Calendar. (Which is of course, our favorite calendar. Sorry Pirelli girls!)
The party took place inside Creatures of Comfort’s spacious SoHo store, filled with more Margiela than I’ve ever seen outside the MMM store on Greenwich St. The real highlight of the party, though, was the framed portraits of United Bamboo’s calendar cats, which were being auctioned off to benefit Animal Haven and Kitty Kind. Unfortunately, no actual cats were at the party, but there were a lot of cool-cat downtown scenesters.
DJ Johnny Misheff spun tunes, Julia Frakes hopped by wearing her bunny ears, and the Fashionista team staffed the bar, meaning the party was so good we completely ran out of wine. So if you woke up this morning in a strange place clutching a cat photo…oops!
