Models Have Rights Too: Learn Why Coco Rocha, Crystal Renn and More are Lending Their Support to the Model Alliance

Last night loads of leggy models–A-listers like Shalom Harlow, Doutzen Kroes, Coco Rocha and Crystal Renn among them–gathered at the Standard in the Meatpacking to sip free vodka drinks over loud music. At first glance, a typical fashion party.

Only it wasn’t. These models were gathered to celebrate the launch of the Model Alliance, a non-profit organization founded by Sara Ziff dedicated to “helping models in the American fashion industry organize for safe, fair, and healthy standards in their workplace.”

Fashion News Roundup: Crystal Renn is Still Being Asked About Her Weight, Luxury Brands Are Doing Really Well, and Jennifer Connelly Models for Shiseido Again–30 Years Later

Jennifer Connelly is a Shiseido Spokeswoman Again, 30 Years Later: The Labrynth co-star is reprising her role as the global face of the Japanese makeup and skincare line – she also appeared in their “Perky Jeans” ad campaign in the ’80s. Jen’s new campaign for Shiseido will be for its Future Solution LX premium skin care line – which sadly doesn’t quite have the same awesome ring to it as “Perky Jeans.” {Styleite}

LVMH and Dior In Pretty Good Shape: As the global economy grows, so have people’s spending habits: LVMH sales have gained 20.4% in the fourth quarter and Dior’s revenues have advanced 22%. Luxury brands seem to be increasing in profit and revenue in pretty much every major market sector save for Japan, where last year’s devastating natural disasters affected far more than the spending habits of the wealthy. {WWD subscription required}

Lisa Perry’s Spring Collection is ‘Mad About Mod’: The designer hosted an intimate luncheon yesterday to celebrate her new ’60s-inspired collection, which features mod accents and groovy pop-art inspired prints. It’s available at Barneys just in time for spring weather and, of course, the return of Mad Men. {Barneys}

Fashion News Roundup: Lil’ Kim is Coming Soon, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen Are Engaged, and Anna Dello Russo Dances Awkwardly for Christmas

Lil’ Kim is Coming for You, Nicki: Lil’ Kim tweeted a “Christmas gift” to her fans; a promo shot for what we are assuming is her upcoming album. The Queen B is dressed in black panties and a turtleneck with large, furry pom poms on the sleeves, and of course, the chest area, so her boobs stay nice and toasty. {Lil’ Kim Twitter}

Don’t Go Shopping in Australia: 44% of Australians report the sales staff in their country is rude and pushy, while another 22% say they are lazy. We’re guessing they do a lot of online shopping down under. {WWD (Subscription Required)}

Crystal Renn and Alana Zimmer Pose as Clowns for Vogue Russia: The models are Circus Chic in the January issue of the Fashion Bible. Who knew hula hoops and Cirque du Soleil makeup could be so fierce? Right.Tyra Banks did. {Styleite}

Fashion News Roundup: CFDA Agrees to Move NYFW, Designer Sketches for Katniss in the Hunger Games, and Kate Middleton’s Entire Wardrobe Could Be Yours

CFDA Agrees to Move S/S NYFW Dates: In the latest S/S Fashion Week scoop, the CFDA agreed to move NY Fashion Week to September 6-13, but won’t eliminate the second Thursday to allow for more men’s shows in London. It also agreed to revisit its scheduling after three years, instead of setting future dates in stone. No word yet from Italy. As Geri Halliwell famously said in the timelessly classic film Spice World, “have [they] not heard of compromisation?” {WWD}

Is Rudolph Cuter Than Karlie? Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, which has aired multiple times annually since 1964, pulled in 1.6 million more viewers last week than this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Maybe these stats will inspire VS to put some claymation models down the runway next year. Fingers crossed. {Washington Post}

Designers Design Their Ultimate Hunger Games Dress: Bella’s wedding dress – what?? InStyle asked 11 amazing designers – including The Blonds, Rachel Roy, and others – to sketch out their versions of Katniss’s fire dress for the upcoming The Hunger Games film. The results are seriously on fiya. {StyleCaster}

People & Parties

See What Marc Jacobs, Alexa Chung, Hamish Bowles and More Fashion Folk Wore for Halloween

The past four days have been a non-stop party for a lot of fashion people here in New York. And those Halloween parties have been well-documented. The Tribeca Grand’s Overlook Hotel party, the Boom Boom Room’s fete and last night’s V party hosted by Terry Richardson drew the most fashion-heavy crowds and, as we all know, fashion people like to dress up. They also seem to like obscure references–many of their costumes were tough to identify, but still fun to look at. So, from Alexa Chung to Joan Smalls to Marc Jacobs, here are a bunch of fashion people in their Halloween best!

Plus-Size Model Robyn Lawley Covers French Revue de Modes, Is Pitted Against Crystal Renn

Plus-Size Model Robyn Lawley Covers French Revue de Modes, Is Pitted Against Crystal Renn

The latest issue of French Revue de Modes features stunning, scantily clad plus-size model Robyn Lawley on the cover.

The cover is, no doubt, a step in the right direction for fashion’s continual diversification–and it’s something women of all shapes and sizes can be happy about. While we are semi-annoyed that it’s another plus-size model not actually wearing much clothing, the more covers they land, the better. But we wish the press would stop being so obsessive about how big or small models are.

Crystal Renn Shoots an Ad for Plus-Size Designer Marina Rinaldi and Then Is Accused of Being Too Skinny–Again

We have to hand it to Crystal Renn, who remains resolutely calm in the face of constant body scrutiny. Today’s ridiculousness? She’s featured on Vogue Italy’s website shooting an ad campaign for high-end plus-size designer Marina Rinaldi with fellow “plus” model (and new mom) Kate Dillon. Flip over to the Daily Mail, and she’s featured at the Metropolitan Opera opening night as (their words) “now virtually unrecognisable from her days of ‘big’ modelling.” Sigh.

We reached out to Crystal‘s rep, but she’s not commenting on her weight anymore. We can’t really blame her. Here’s the thing. Weight fluctuates, and what you wear and how you’re photographed can add or subtract ten pounds. But that isn’t even the point.

Take Crystal Renn, Anna Dello Russo and a whole lot of glittered out Dolce & Gabbana and what do you get? In a nutshell: This behind-the-scenes video at Vogue Japan “A Policy of Flash” shoot. See a gorgeous Renn get her eyes taped up and back, her brows brushed, lips colored and then step in front of the camera and–boom–magic happens as she contorts and poses to sultry effect. Renn begins as a dapper gent and later is transformed into a golden glamour girl, dressed solely in Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2011 collection because, according to Anna Della Russo “We love it!”

Candice Huffine On Her W Editorial, Padding and ‘Being Called Just a Model’ (Not Plus)

First it was Crystal Renn, then Marquita Pring, and now Candice Huffine is the latest plus model poised to break the mold. She recently landed the cover of Vogue Italia, a milestone considering the cover featured three plus-size models without designating them as “curvy” or “plus,” and makes a stunning appearance in W’s September issue. Just this morning, W‘s new fashion director Edward Enninful Tweeted “I am loving Candice Huffine @FordModels @models. So beautiful xoxo,” which makes us think we might be seeing Huffine in another issue of W in the near future.

We chatted with the model on the rise about her recent successes, her take on size in the fashion industry, and whether she’s ever had to pad for jobs.

Fashionista: How does it feel to be in the all-important September issue for the fashiony-est of mainstream glossies, W? What was the shoot like?
When the shock of the shoot wears off maybe I can express what I’m feeling! It’s just beyond special and I feel honored to have been chosen and everyday I shake my head and giggle a little at how much has changed for me recently. Like Vogue, shooting with Meisel and his team is like a fairy tale…the most beautiful clothing, the nicest people, a calm set where you just know the end product is going to be nothing short of spectacular. I feel so lucky.

And how did it feel to land the cover of Vogue Italia–especially without any modifiers like “curvy issue”?
