Pilati Isn’t Going Anywhere: YSL confirmed via Twitter today that the rumor that this would be Stefano Pilati’s last season at YSL is just that–a rumor. “From YSL HQ in Paris… Pilati busy working on the next collection. All the rumors unfounded – he is here to stay,” the tweet read. Rumors always come from somewhere, and this one’s been floating around for a while. But we’ve got to believe YSL, and hope Pilati blows us out of the water with his fall collection next week. {@Y_S_L}

See Crystal Renn, Bambi Northwood-Blyth and More at the ACW Worldwide Casting for New York Fashion Week

Walking in the big shows of a season can jump start any model’s career. (See: Arizona Muse) So, naturally hundreds of girls and guys piled into Hudson’s Library in Midtown yesterday to try their hand (or face) at impressing Andrew Weir, legendary casting director and founder of ACW casting agency. Everyone from up and coming new girls to industry powerhouse Crystal Renn stopped by to “take a walk” and pose for Weir’s cameras.

The whole process took over eight hours, but operations inside Hudson’s Library functioned like a well-oiled machine, each model working their way through a series of obstacles before greeting the Mr. Weir and strutting his or her stuff. It was a rare opportunity to see the girls and guys we worship in magazines in their “natural habitat.”

So, click through to see what we saw!

Crystal Renn is Not a Size Two Despite What Her Ford Model Card Says

Crystal Renn is Not a Size Two Despite What Her Ford Model Card Says

Last Friday Jezebel ran a post headlined, “Crystal Renn’s Agency Says She’s A Size 2.” Which is weird because Renn’s agency, Ford, has always been very forthcoming about her size, and the last time we checked in with them about Renn, she was an eight.

The piece goes on to cite an interview Renn did for Plus Model Radio radio in which she said, “Because of my size currently, I straddle this line between the two worlds–I guess you could say I’m a plus size straight size model. I am four inches smaller than a plus size model and four inches bigger than a straight size model.”

So we checked in with Renn‘s agent at Ford who confirmed that though she has dropped weight over the last year after picking up hiking and exercising again after recovering from her eating disorder, she’s a six/eight, not a two. “There was an error in the initial printing and it is being rectified,” Gary Dakin, Renn’s agent told us. “She maintains a 37-38 hip.”

The 15 Most Buzzed About Models of 2010

I don’t like to do a lot of end of year reflecting about anything, except maybe all the shoes I wish I had bought but didn’t (a girl can dream, right?), but 2010 has seen some major model mayhem.

2010 saw more diversity in the typically cookie-cutter world of modeling. Was it perfect? Of course not, but the modeling industry may be taking much needed steps into the right direction. The top models of 2010 came in all body types, genders, ethnicities, ages, and sexual orientations, proving that there’s a lot more to being a successful model than a symmetrical face and a size zero frame.

Click though to see our list of the models that made made it big in 2010.

Fashion News Roundup: Crystal Does Zac, Karl’s Commercials, & ‘Tis The Season to F*** Off

Karl Lagerfeld, The Actor? Karl Lagerfeld can now add actor to his growing list of occupations. Uncle Karl is set to star in a series of Volkswagen commercials which will premier December 22 in Germany. {Racked}

‘Tis The Season To F**k Off: It seems that a Harrods employee got a little upset after he was fired from his position as the toy departments “Father Christmas.” The employee barricaded himself in the store, located all the corresponding switches of the light display outside, and spelled out “F**K OFF” with the lights. Apparently, he had been drinking –the reason he was fired in the first place. {Tumblr/Dashperiod}

H&M Sales Soar In November: H&M’s sales jumped 8% last month –the same month Lanvin x H&M hit stores. Do we smell more designer collaborations? {Retail Week}

False Lashes Claims? Claire Danes recently hopped on the Latisse bandwagon when she became a spokesperson for the eyelash growth treatment. However, things didn’t go (or grow?) so smoothly. Sources are claiming that Danes suffers from skin hyper-pigmentation, one of the side effect of Latisse. And while Danes did say in an online video diary she saw a little bit of redness under her eyes, both Latisse’s and Danes’ reps are claiming that it’s all untrue. {Page Six}

Exclusive: Crystal Renn On Going ‘Under the Knife’ For Tom Ford in French Vogue (Including Pics)

Exclusive: Crystal Renn On Going ‘Under the Knife’ For Tom Ford in French Vogue (Including Pics)

Here’s more evidence that Tom Ford’s guest edited holiday issue of French Vogue lives up to all the hype: An eight-page spread of Crystal Renn as a Jocelyn Wildenstein-esque plastic surgery addict, shot by Tom Ford and styled by Carine Roitfeld.

We got word in advance that Ford would take on plastic surgery in his issue of French Vogue, but the resulting editorial, featuring the unstoppable Crystal Renn, is more dynamic (and at times grotesque) than we could have imagined.

Despite the fact that Renn is an amazing model whose star is on the rise, she’s outspoken about size in the fashion industry (having gone from a size zero when she was battling anorexia to plus size), and her size tends to make headlines over her modeling. Most recently, folks were buzzing about her latest editorial in Harper’s Bazaar, and wondering if she was still “plus size.” (She’s an 8, sometimes a 10, her agent told us). But this spread, titled “La Panthere Ose” (or, according to my rusty french, “The Panther Dares”–so perhaps panthers are cougars in France?), should put the focus squarely on Renn’s modeling ability and the story it tells about plastic surgery.

And if it looks like Renn has been enhanced in the editorial it’s because she has been. A cast was made of her face so she could be fitted with prosthetic cheeks and lips. While some models might cringe at having to alter their appearance a la Heidi Montag, Renn relished the gig.

“What I enjoy most about my job is the opportunity to express myself, often doing this by becoming a sort of character on the shoots that I do, and every time I work with Carine I feel the character approach is emphasized,” Renn told us. “When they were taking the cast of my face, fitting me for prosthetic cheeks and lips, I remember thinking this is why I do my job, for moments like this. After the shoot I took that very mask and asked Tom to sign it, it sits in my living room as we speak.”

Not a bad souvenir.

Check out the full spread. It’s amazing.

Crystal Renn’s New Editorial in Harper’s Bazaar Fuels the “Is She Still Plus Size?” Debate

Crystal Renn’s New Editorial in Harper’s Bazaar Fuels the “Is She Still Plus Size?” Debate

Photos from Crystal Renn’s latest editorial in the December issue of Harper’s Bazaar have the internet buzzing with the question: “Is she still plus size?”

One commenter on models.com asked “So is she no longer a ‘plus size’ model?” and another noted, “She is so pretty. But is she back to being skinny? She totally isn’t pluz-size either she’s back on track or this is some photoshop. Which I’m hoping it’s not.” A post on the LiveJournal Fashin community of the photos is titled, “Is This Even Plus Size Anymore?” and commenters are speculating about Renn’s size. A 4? A 6?

“She fluctuates slightly now but has pretty much landed at a FULL 8, sometimes a 10,” Gary Dakin, Renn’s agent at Ford told us. But to assuage those worrying about whether Renn is dropping back to an unhealthy weight, Dakin confirms, “Crystal is completely healthy and reintroduced exercise back into her routine.”

Crystal Renn has come to symbolize the debate over size in the fashion industry. She’s vocal about her struggles with anorexia, made headlines when she spoke out against being photoshopped into a slimmer version of herself, and has become something of a spokeswoman to promote acceptance at any size.
