Last night, the YMA Scholarship Association held a panel discussion at FIT featuring industry vets like Michael Bastian, Alexis Bittar, Lori Goldstein, Cynthia Rowley and Terron Schaefer. The lively conversation was moderated by one of our favorite people, Mickey Boardman, so of course, hilarity ensued–but so did tons of inspiring and insightful first-hand stories and Read more →
Perhaps Marc Jacobs is to blame, but ever since the American fashion maestro’s 1970s-inspired spring collection debuted, it seems much of the industry’s been taking cues from the disco decade. Such was the case at tonight’s Cynthia Rowley show, though the looks seen here were more Seventies scholar than Studio 54. Think Marcia Brady meets Electric Lady. Cast in an era-appropriate color palette of mustard, rust, emerald green, and midnight blue, the collection was full of sparkling intarsia knits and crisp A-line skirts featuring daringly high slits. In keeping with the chosen theme, there were plenty of Op Art prints, namely a colorful cubist pattern and another in checkerboard chevron.

We just received word that Cynthia Rowley, Joe Zee and Rachel Zoe will all be making appearances on next week’s Gossip Girl. The episode will center around Blair’s birthday party, which of course will include a performance by Robyn (last year was Lady Gaga). It seems like in almost every episode this season, a Van der Woodsen has air-kissed someone from the fashion industry or New York society. Last night’s episode was no exception. It culminated in an Observer party at the Boom Boom Room with Tim Gunn, Isaac Mizrahi, Ivanka Trump, and Jared Kushner in attendance.
1) Is it true what Gretchen said to her mom? Is life really more than just fashion?
2) Is anyone at all shocked that the thin girls got chosen first?
3) Did Michael D. call his model “volumptuous” (yes, with an M)? I did several rewinds. He did.
4) Why was it OK that Ivy trash-talked Michael C. for the entire first part of the show, but it was not OK when he allegedly did the same to her?
This week, we loved Lauren Santo Domingo’s pretty Chloé number. Alexa, who we’re always a fan of, looks great in dressed down Mulberry. Rachel Bilson and Kate Bosworth both looked great in Vanessa Bruno at the designer’s birthday dinner. Rising star Zoe Kazan is cute as ever in Cynthia Rowley.
It seems like everyone is pairing up with a designer these days, but from diapers to sponges, some partnerships are definitely wackier than others. Here are six collaborations we never saw coming:
Cynthia Rowley is really getting her name out there. Hot on the heels of her collection for Roxy and her line of bridesmaid dresses, Rowley is launching yet another collaboration. For Pampers. Really.
The mother of two has designed a line of printed diapers to be sold at Target starting mid July. Rowley believes parents want more choice when it comes to wrapping up their babies’ bums, and given Huggies recent launch of the “Jeans Diaper,” she might be onto something.
Cynthia Rowley understands how busy it is right now for magazine editors: They’re closing their September issues, running around to an endless number of summer parties, and of course, going to resort presentations and market appointments, subsequently pulling looks to shoot for fall.
So she’s doing them a favor by bringing her resort collection to the source. Tomorrow, the designer will host “street-side” presentations at Condé Nast from 1-2pm, at Hearst from 3-4pm and Time, Inc. from 5-6pm.
Cute idea, but may we make a suggestion for the future?
It seems like fashion has never been more obsessed with getting married. J.Crew‘s been doing bridal for years now. Anthropologie recently hopped on the bandwagon. Cynthia Rowley just announced that she’s creating a collection of bridesmaid dresses. Even Rodarte–hardly the brand you’d associate with weddings–showed several chapel-appropriate gowns for Fall 2010. In a sort of Read more →
