Is Dakota Fanning Too Young To Cover Cosmo?

While her younger sister Elle just became old enough to snag her first Teen Vogue cover, Dakota, who is four years older has apparently reached what Cosmopolitan refers to as her “Cosmo years.” Just a couple of months after her Marc Jacobs perfume ads were banned in the UK for “sexualizing children,” the 17-year-old actress and NYU student covers the women’s magazine’s February issue.

It’s not something we necessarily saw coming–especially since we’ve gotten used to seeing her in slightly more fashion-focused publications like W and British Elle–but is it inappropriate?

Fashion News Roundup: Emma Watson Has a New Lancôme Ad, Karlie Kloss Runs Around NYC for Free People, and Kim Jong-un Gets a C+ in Fashion

Here’s Emma Watson’s Actual Lancôme Ad: The pretty concept drawings leaked last week, but here’s a look at the finished product, featuring E. Wats looking ever-so seductive. Lancôme’s new makeup lines of lipsticks and nail polishes will hit stores in February. {WWD}

Dakota Fanning Covers Elle UK: Not to be outshone by her fashionable younger sister, whose upcoming Teen Vogue cover hits shelves soon, here’s Dakota’s very own February cover for Elle UK. Though you have to admit, it is a little funny that the word “ELLE” is emblazoned across poor (and pore-less) Dakota’s porcelain forehead in giganto font. Just a little. {Design Scene}

WWD Gives Kim Jong-un a Fashion C+: To be honest, I think they went a little easy on North Korea’s new leader. Though the constructive criticism (“a slightly tapered [pant] leg would help elongate his silhouette”) is a nice, helpful touch. {WWD}

Elle Fanning Covers Teen Vogue February 2012, Peep the Adorably Perfect Editorial and Behind the Scenes Video!

Teen Vogue was probably counting down the days until Elle Fanning officially became a teenager so they could make her a cover star. And not surprisingly, so was Elle Fanning, according to the below video, which goes behind the scenes of her insanely adorable and perfect February cover shoot. As you can imagine, Teen Vogue and Elle Fanning, who’s already a fashion darling, are a match made in heaven and while we also love seeing her in grown-up couture looks, it’s nice to see her looking sweet and girly.

In the video, Elle is her usual charming self, talking about how excited she is to be in Teen Vogue and that giddy enthusiasm carries over into the cover story, in which she gabs about hanging out with the Mulleavys, acting with huge movie stars and less surreal things like sleepovers, school and being the tallest kid in her grade.

They also talk to Dakota, who readily admits that Elle has surpassed her older sister when it comes to fashion…

Hailee Steinfeld’s Miu Miu Ad Deemed ‘Irresponsible’ in the UK Because She’s Sitting on Train Tracks

The UK’s Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) must be really bored or something this month. First they pulled Dakota Fanning’s Marc Jacobs Oh Lola ad because she was holding a huge bottle between her legs (we sort of get that one–SORT OF). They’ve now shifted their censoring sights to another American starlet, Hailee Steinfeld, who starred in that cute fall 2011 Miu Miu campaign. Or was it not cute at all, but secretly sinister?

Elle Fanning Is Annoyed That She Can’t Steal Dakota’s Clothes Anymore (Plus Check Out the Fanning Sisters’ Gorgeous Editorial in W)

As we reported last week, sisters of the moment Elle and Dakota Fanning are W‘s December cover girls. Along with a less blurry image of the gorgeous, ethereal cover, we now have the full spread styled by Lori Goldstein and shot by Mario Sorrenti. There’s also a lovely interview by Lynn Hirschberg–two separate ones in fact–in which the girls dish about borrowing each other’s clothes, working at such a young age and how fashion-obsessed Elle reacted to being invited to the Chanel couture show.

Click through for the best bits from the interview and to see the “fabulous Fannings” wearing Chanel couture and looking super pretty in the editorial.

The UK Bans Dakota Fanning’s Ads for Marc Jacobs’ Oh Lola Fragrance Because They’re ‘Sexually Provocative’

The UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has struck again, this time against the ads for Marc Jacobs’ latest fragrance, Oh Lola!. The ads feature Dakota Fanning holding a huge bottle of perfume between her legs. The ASA will consider banning ads if it receives enough complaints, which is what happened in this case.

The ASA said, according to the Telegraph:

Chloe Sevigny Says She’d Be Happy If Snooki Wore Her Clothes, But Not If Paris Hilton Did

Chloe Sevigny Says She’d Be Happy If Snooki Wore Her Clothes, But Not If Paris Hilton Did

It’s no secret the fashion industry eats up pretty much anything Chloe Sevigny spits out. She recently gave an interview to BULLET magazine, which covers everything from her childhood to her latest collection for Opening Ceremony. Chloe is characteristically candid, offering up her take on dropping acid, dressing the Fannings and why she she looks in the mirror. A lot.

The highlights:

Rodarte Spring 2012: Starry Starry Night

Rodarte Spring 2012: Starry Starry Night

Rodarte‘s Mulleavy sisters are nothing if not dreamers–and for their spring 2012 collection they got lost in Van Gogh’s dream world. Dresses with the post-Impressionist painter’s sunflowers and swirly stars from his starry nights floated down the runway.

The stars were watching the runway as well: Elle and Dakota Fanning, Beyonce and Solange Knowles, and Taylor Swift were there in the front row. Not too shabby. To counter the mainstream stars and the heaps of praise and attention Rodarte has received, the sisters’ chose a reference point that speaks to the heart of the creative person. Van Gogh—a mentally unbalanced genius who died alone, impoverished, unrecognized in his time—is a model for struggling artist, the outsider, he whose passion overcomes every other notion of his being, including his own physical body (he cut off his own ear; he shot himself in the chest).

The sisters Mulleavy will have people talking with this collection. And if the response is more shock than awe, the intelligence and originality in this effort should subdue any such moaning.
