Karl Lagerfeld Mentored Lost Lamb Claudia Schiffer: Way back when O.S. (Original Super) Claudia Schiffer was just a homesick little fräulein in the big bad world of modeling, the Kaiser apparently took her under his friendly fingerless-gloved wing as her wise mentor. Sounds just like a modern-day modeling fairy tale. {Vogue UK}

Nicki Minaj Wears Prada on Wonderland: For the mag’s Feb/March issue, a cotton-candy coiffed Nicki Minaj proves that Prada is for more than just basic bitches. Check out Wonderland‘s latest cover, which features Ms. Minaj rocking totally natural lashes and what looks like a printed version of the Spring ’12 bodysuit that’s been taking over recent editorials. {Design Scene}

Remember last spring, when Daphne Guinness famously “got dressed for the Met Ball” in a Barneys window? Well, it turns out that may have just been the first of many of the socialite-turned-performance artist’s forays into department store window displays.

However, for her next turn, Guinness won’t actually be in the window in real life, but in the form of “virtual statues.” According to WWD, she’s working with Nick Knight’s SHOWstudio for window displays at Printemps in Paris called “Visions Couture” to use “cutting-edge three-dimensional scanning technology” to create these statues from photographic images. She will model looks by Paco Rabanne, Gareth Pugh, Maison Martin Margiela, Rick Owens and Junya Watanabe.

Now this is a side of Daphne Guinness we’ve never seen before! Sporting a red mullet, glam makeup and gold sequins, the typically goth socialite is almost unrecognizable in a David Bowie-inspired editorial for Vogue Germany, which we saw on Fashionising.

Lensed by Bryan Adams, the shoot completely nails Bowie’s glamrock sensibility. Plus, it’s fun to see Daphne in something other than skunk hair and all-black ensembles. However, we can’t help feeling that the whole thing is a little…familiar, no? Read more »

Proenza Schouler’s Very First Store: Aww. The label is eyeing a spot on Madison Avenue for its first-ever shop, set to open in 2012 – Exciting news for both Proenza and window shoppers everywhere. {WWD}

Are Leo and Erin Heatherton Sitting in a Tree (Figuratively Speaking)? Gisele, Bar, Blake, Erin… Mr. DiCaprio clearly has a thing for leggy blondes – then again, who doesn’t. The possible pair was spotted strolling around Sydney together. Which means they’re probably engaged. We kid! We kid. {NY Mag}

Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti Celebrate launch of Valentino Virtual Museum

When Franca Sozzani spoke at the press conference announcing the launch of the Valentino Garavani Vitrual Museum–a project funded entirely by Garavani and his longtime partner Giancarlo Giammetti to virtually house and showcase five decades of Valentino–she said celebrities love to wear Valentino and “not because they have been asked.” And last night, despite high winds and an icy deluge, a lot of celebrities wearing a lot of Valentino turned out to celebrate the designer’s groundbreaking new museum at a party at the IAC Building.

Daphne Guinness for MAC

Last weekend Daphne Guinness–like thousands of other art lovers–hit Miami for Art Basel. While we couldn’t be there with her, we had the chance to chat with her and James Gager, MAC’s Senior Vice President/Group Creative Director about her new color collection. (We couldn’t really imagine the somewhat goth Daphne in Miami among the palm trees but for the record: she loves the sun and always wears a lot of sunscreen.)

The Daphne Guinness MAC line, which launches December 26, is full of shades on the cool end of the spectrum. We got our hands on it and can say that the eye shadow quad is a must-have and the sage/silver green nail polish and lip gloss are especially intriguing. We were dying to talk to the mistress of all things over-the-top about how she came up with the surprisingly wearable collection. Click through for her thoughts on guys wearing makeup, her own (minimal!) makeup routine, and why she doesn’t think very highly of trends.

2011 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show - Runway

New York Takes Aim at Miranda Kerr’s Vapidity: Sample quote from Miranda: “I want to encourage women to embrace their own uniqueness. Because just like a rose is beautiful, so is a sunflower, so is a peony. I mean, all flowers are beautiful in their own way, and that’s like women too.” Sample quote from New York: “Even if her workout routine, diet, and husband, Orlando Bloom, weren’t the only things reporters ever asked about, Kerr shows a strong reluctance to utter any sentences not purely banal.” Zing! {New York}

Daphne Guinness/FIT Exhibit Sponsor Pressured to Pull Out: Human rights group Adalah-NY is demanding the immediate withdrawal of Leviev Diamonds as a sponsor to the Daphne Guinness exhibit over at FIT. Apparently, Adalah-NY has beef with Lev Leviev (the company’s owner), over his ties to the West Bank. If Guinness holds on to this sponsorship, Adalah-NY has pledged to protest the exhibit. {WWD subscription required}

Daphne Guinness for M.A.C

When it was announced that Daphne Guinness would be teaming up with M.A.C to bring us a 24-piece cosmetics line we were expecting an over-the-top collection from the skunk-haired, crazy-platform-wearing style icon. I mean, come on, this is Daphne Guinness after all!

But much to our surprise and delight the collection looks extremely wearable. Flattering, even. There are pretty pink blushes, brown eyeliners, deep red and mauve lipsticks and shimmery-looking brown, beige and purple powders–”colors [that are] as sophisticated, authentic and refined as Daphne herself,” the press release reads.

This mix of wearable colors is especially surprising, given where the collection began–with Guinness’ spit.

Could your astrological sign make you suited to a career in fashion?

As ridiculous as that may sound, Anna Wintour, Robbie Myers, Glenda Bailey, Calvin Klein, Zac Posen, Edith Head, Emilio Pucci, Kelly Cutrone, Peter Lindbergh, Alexa Chung, Isabella Blow, Daphne Guinness, Chloe Sevigny, Lauren Hutton, Jean Shrimpton and Helmut Newton are just a few of the many editors, designers, photographers and style icons who were born under the sign of Scorpio. These folks are successful, powerful, iconic and we had a hunch that it wasn’t just a coincidence.

I happen to be a Scorpio myself and considered that might be the only reason I kept noticing other fashion people with November birthdays, until I realized other people had noticed that as well, like Astrologyzone‘s Susan Miller (aka the fashion industry’s most trusted advisor).

Susan also does the horoscopes for Elle, so she’s familiar with the fashion world, and in fact, works for Scorpio editor Robbie Myers. Also, one of her daughters is Chrissie Miller, designer of Sophomore. Susan was nice enough to chat with us about Scorpio personality traits and why this particular water sign is such a great fit for the fashion industry.

Daphne Guinness is one of the industry’s favorite eccentrics, known for sporting towering heel-less platforms and skunk hair way before Gaga, and a wardrobe so outrageous it earned its own FIT exhibit. Though her status means she can drop millions on McQueen or use the windows of Barneys as a dressing room, the heiress is actually a little shy. In an unusual burst of publicity, the internet popped out three interviews with Guinness today, including photos of her topless in Interview magazine. Click through to see which items have given her buyers’ remorse, the hazards of trying to be ironic in print, and how current fashion is “feeding on a cadaver:”

If you’re feeling a little post-Halloween depression and no amount of fun-sized chocolate bars will cheer you up, here’s something that will: Movember is now upon us! That’s right, Movember – that magical month near the end of each year when mustaches sprout and flourish (or attempt to) on the faces of men everywhere, and bring joy to all who surround them. It’s like combining all the best holidays, plus your birthday, and making it last a full thirty days. It’s that unreal.

But it gets even better. Movember, sometimes called “Novembeard,” is actually a charitable endeavor, raising funds and awareness for cancers that affect men. Participants start with a clean-shaven face on November… erm, Movember 1st, and are sponsored by mustache admirers who want to see what they’ve got, facial-hair-wise. It’s your basic win/win situation.

Since we ladies aren’t physically able to participate in the growing/cultivating aspect of Movember, we thought it would be fun and pretty much necessary to imagine our favorite fashion figures in some legendary celebrity ‘stache styles. Then, with a little photoshop magic, we were able to make these mustache matches a reality. Can you really see Anna Wintour with anything but a pencil-thin mustache? And who would’ve thought a snowy Fu Manchu would seriously flatter Karl Lagerfeld? Take a look at the rest of our picks, and prepare to be mesmerized by some marvelous mustaches.
