Quote of the Day: Daphne Guinness Says She’s ‘Not Very Good at Getting Dressed Up’

“I mean, the funny thing is I always wanted to get dressed for Halloween…[but] I’m not very good at getting dressed up. I’m going out with a friend, I’m sort of taking it easy…I just feel terribly grateful for a lot of things. Just understanding what’s happening in the world. Lots of different elements, they’re Read more →

Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars Honors Raf Simons, Daphne Guinness, and Andrew Rosen, the ‘Godfather’ of Fashion

Last night, despite a cold, blustery rainstorm, the fashion industry elite put on their black-tie best and headed down to Cipriani Wall Street for Fashion Group International’s Annual Night of Stars Gala. The event is known for it’s glittery mix of designers, retail execs, editors and celebrities, and this year’s event was no exception. Elle’s Kate Lanphear (in an incredible YSL cape) told us, “This is one of my favorite events of the year. I’m a big fashion nerd, and I always try to come if I’m in town.” Spotted in the glamorous crowd were fashion luminaries like Proenza’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Harper’s Bazaar Editor-in-Chief Glenda Bailey, Bergdorf Goodman’s Linda Fargo, model Lindsey Wixson, and style legend Lee Radziwill, who accompanied Star Honoree designer Giambattista Valli.

Many designers in attendance were excited to support Corporate Leadership Award winner Andrew Rosen, the President of Theory and an investor in young fashion brands. Stacey Bendet Eisner, founder and designer of Alice and Olivia, a company that Rosen has invested in and mentored, said, “I worship him. I talk to him every morning at 6am, or around that time. He’s the most amazing person in this industry; he’s the Godfather.” Misha Nonoo of Nonoo NY added, “Andrew Rosen is one of the most exciting people in fashion at the moment. He recognizes talent at a seedling level.”

Some highlights from the awards ceremony:

The Incredible Evolution of Daphne Guinness
Fashion Is Fun

The Incredible Evolution of Daphne Guinness

This week The New Yorker ran a piece on Daphne Guinness, and much like everything the style icon does (or wears), the revelations from Rebecca Mead’s fantastic profile are surprising, over-the-top, and kind of absurd.

Guinness would probably be the first to admit that she’s not exactly your average human. After all it was her own boyfriend, French philosopher Bernard-Henri Levy, who said of her: “[she is] no longer a person, [she is] a concept.”

So what exactly is Daphne Guinness?

We have yet to fully figure it out but in light of the much-talked-about New Yorker interview, we explore the many facets of Daphne Guinness–from her style philosophy to her thoughts on Hitler–though we’re willing to bet the thing that will shock you most will be what the style icon looked like in the late ’80s. Go on, have a look.

Katie Grand, Sarah Burton, Tom Ford Among British Fashion Award Nominees

Katie Grand, Sarah Burton, Tom Ford Among British Fashion Award Nominees

The British Fashion Council has just announced the nominees for the 2011 British Fashion Awards, which are essentially the U.K.’s answer to our prestigious CFDA’s. The ceremony, which is scheduled for November 28, is meant to recognize the most influential people in fashion today and also promote the growth of British fashion.

With all the attention the U.K. has been getting lately for that stylish princess of theirs and being dubbed the “new fashion capital,” British fashion is definitely more relevant than ever this year. That may be why the BFC has decided to re-introduce the Red Carpet award, which “gives recognition to a British designer who is creating global awareness of their designs in the media.”

From Kim Jones to Stella McCartney to Erdem, here are all the nominees:

The Official Kate Moss Wedding Photos

The purple McQueen dress may have come as a bit of a surprise to those who expected to see a wedding dress on Kate Moss’ September Vogue cover. Not to worry, though–there are dozens of wedding photos to be found inside of Kate and her glamorous guests. Terry Richardson’s unofficial photos made Mosstock look like the most fun wedding ever, and Mario Testino’s have pretty much confirmed that.

The just-released official photos include Kate, Jamie, Carine Roitfeld, Daphne Guinness, Terry Richardson, Stella McCartney, Naomi Campbell and more all against the gorgeous backdrop of Kate’s Costwolds home. There are a couple of editorial shots thrown in there as well–including (a very tasteful) one of Kate and her daughter, Lila, topless (Here’s hoping that does not incite Thylane Blondeau-esque outrage). Click through for the amazingness.

Creepy Collaboration of the Day: Brit Makeup Brand Illamasqua Teams Up With a Funeral Home

Now here’s a collaboration you don’t hear about everyday: cosmetics for funeral parlors. Think about it, though. Funeral homes must go through a lot of makeup. It’s a wonder someone hasn’t come up with this sooner.

Illamasqua, the Brit makeup brand known for theatrical and decidedly goth looks, is the mastermind behind a collaboration with London-based Leverton & Sons funeral directors. According to Illamasqua’s blog:
