PARIS–After an eight year hiatus, Atelier Versace returned to the Paris couture schedule Monday with an intimate presentation in a gallery at the Ecole des Beaux Arts that had been completely covered in gold. Ms. Versace could not have chosen a better moment to show her Atelier line–it’s a moment when clients are investing in luxury clothes again across the globe, particularly in Asia and parts of South America (especially Brazil). It’s also Versace’s moment–this Atelier presentation on the heels of the brand’s successful collaboration with H&M for the other end of the market.
There were no seating arrangements and the small number of guests mingled with actresses Diane Kruger, Cameron Diaz, and Abbie Cornish. The actresses gathered around the supermodels were different manifestations of the Atelier’s collection–runway and real life.

Rodarte, Prada, Honor…Some of our favorite labels–and ones we don’t often see at awards shows–made an appearance on the red carpet at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards, and boy was it a treat.
From Diane Kruger’s Prada gown from Spring 2012 (one of our hands-down favorite collections of the season) to Elle Fanning’s Rodarte ensemble, last night’s dresses were surprisingly high fashion. Cross your fingers that the red carpet keeps moving in this direction!

Hailee Steinfeld, Tavi, Marilyn Manson and More Fete the Launch of Miu Miu’s “Noir” Sunglasses
LOS ANGELES–Last night Miu Miu pulled out all the stops to celebrate the launch of their “Noir” sunglasses collation with an over-the-top ’40s-themed bash at an enormous villa in the Hollywood Hills (apparently they film parts of Entourage there). The brand wrangled so many celebs–from campaign star Hailee Steinfeld (who was joined at the hip to new BFF Tavi Gevinson) to Diane Kruger to Smith Jerrod Jason Lewis to Marilyn Manson (yes, he was really there and he came with China Chow)–it was nearly impossible to avoid bumping into them.
The cat-eye ’40s-style glasses, which debuted on Miu Miu’s fall 2011 runway, were the stars of a short film, Muta, commissioned by the brand. The film, directed by award-winning Argentinian director Lucrecia Martel, premiered last night on a screen suspended in the villa’s grand courtyard. It’s the second installment in the “Miu Miu Women’s Tales Saga,” a film series that explores “the feminine love affair with Miu Miu.” (Watch the first film directed by Zoe Cassavetes here).
Muta is creepy in the best way: models in fall Miu Miu slithered and slinked and occasionally disappeared altogether on a cruise ship–one even contorted to squeeze through a tiny porthole. Only you never saw their faces.

From Socialite to Ambassadress: How Chanel Ranks Alexa Chung, Diane Kruger, Anna Mouglais and More
Chanel front rows and party lines, especially over the past few years, always draw an elite group of Chanel-clad ladies who might collectively be referred to as “it girls.” Actresses, models, socialites and DJs make up this group but what they all seem to have in common is beauty, great style and some kind of cultural relevance that Karl or someone at Chanel recognizes as fitting with the Chanel brand. That and the ability to look amazing in Chanel and always catch our attention.
About two years ago, Chanel threw a dinner party and announced an “official list” of five Chanel ambassadors: Leigh Lezark, Jen Brill, Poppy Delevingne, Vanessa Traina, and Caroline Sieber. Others, like Elisa Sednaoui and, back in the day, Ines de la Fressange, have been casually referred to as Karl’s muses.
But, there are still others, like Rachel Bilson, Alexa Chung and newest and youngest member Elle Fanning (!), whose “roles” in the Chanel world were undefined, until now. A tip sheet for last night’s Chanel couture show, revealed by the Telegraph’s Belinda White, literally places bold names expected to attend into a carefully ranked multi-tier system. The categories range from “Japanese celebrities” to “Chanel Ambassadress.” Here they are in what I’m guessing is ascending order.
