New York Fashion Week‘s next home, following a less than well-received tenancy at Lincoln Center, might be a place called the Culture Shed. The Culture Shed, despite sounding like a bad nightclub, will be a “sprawling, modern center” within $15 billion westside development project the Hudson Yards, and it was the subject of a press conference with Mayor Bloomberg this morning.

Coach confirmed their plans to open a global headquarters there, WWD is reporting. According to the trade, the complex will also house “office buildings, residential and retail space, a 150-room hotel, 14 acres of public space and a sprawling, modern center called the Culture Shed, which, according to Bloomberg, ‘will eventually’ host Fashion Week.”

Forbes just released their list of the World’s Most Powerful Women and, as expected, Anna Wintour made the cut. What is surprising: she’s only #69. Though it’s expected that politicians would top an editor (Angela Merkel was #1 and Hillary Clinton is #2), we were a little shocked that Lady Gaga came it at #11 (the highest non-politician or businesswoman on the list) and Beyoncé was #18.

But back to Anna.

Beyonce gifts Solange with 25 pairs of shoes: The singer, who’s been known for spending millions on her loved ones, splurged at Saks and Bergdorf’s on Thursday, and bought her sis a pair of shoes for every year she’s been alive. Can we join this family? {NY Post}

Lady Gaga sued over wristbands: An attorney with Michigan-based 1-800-LAW-FIRM is suing Ms. Germanotta on pretenses that she profited from the “We Pray for Japan” wristbands sold on her website, of which proceeds supposedly all went to tsunami and earthquake relief efforts. Say it ain’t so, Gaga! {Showbiz Spy}

Heidi Klum is releasing a new QVC jewelry line; we’re hoping she doesn’t get sued this time: The supermodel plans for much more, well, original inspiration for her second collection. QVC and Heidi’s lawyers aren’t alone in crossing their fingers that she’ll avoid a lawsuit this time around. {Styleite}

Despite the downpour, yesterday evening’s launch of Amazon.com’s new private sale website, MYHABIT.com, boasted an impressive roster of boldfaced names. Everyone from super stylist Mary Alice Stephenson to designers Rebecca Minkoff and Charlotte Ronson to Disney sweetheart Vanessa Hudgens turned up for the fête. All sported perfectly-coiffed hair (celebs–they’re not just like us!). The site, which offers major markdowns on designer duds, has smartly upped their fashion cred by teaming with the CFDA. Accordingly, both the organization’s Executive Director Steven Kolb and President Diane von Furstenberg were out to support the site.

A couple of weeks ago, we mentioned that Diane Von Furstenberg is collaborating with HP on a Fashion’s Night Out event to be held at her Meatpacking District studio. Guests will be able to play with fancy new HP technology as well as a photo booth where participants can pose in DVF looks and print the images on wireless printers.

We’ve already touched on the trend of tech companies trying to target girls and this isn’t the first step HP has taken to build a presence within the fashion world. Last year, the computer makers collaborated on a laptop with Vivienne Tam, which debuted in her Spring 2010 runway show. In March, Project Runway contestants were challenged to create fabric patterns on HP computers and turn them into actual garments. Tam guest judged. HP also did a collaboration with Sex and the City 2.

Furstenberg isn’t typically big on collaborations, but we think it would be interesting and not so surprising if a DVF-designed HP laptop came out of this event.

To get the opportunity to listen to the wise words of Norma Kamali and Diane von Furstenberg in one sitting is pretty spectacular. Throw the young, talented, and eager Prabal Gurung into the mix, and you’ve got one entertaining evening.

Last night I stopped by the NY Times for a very fashionable edition of its TimesTalks series, moderated by style reporter Eric Wilson. Kamali, von Furstenberg, Gurung and Fern Mallis sat on the panel. The main topic of the evening was the Fashion Center Sidewalk Catwalk, that 30-odd row of incredibly inventive mannequins in the Garment Center. Those mannequins will subsequently be auctioned off, with the proceeds going towards art supplies for city kids who might not have them otherwise.

Each designer discussed the inspiration behind his or her mannequin–DvF’s wanted hers to represent a feline female, Prabal paid homage to Alexander McQueen, Kamali considered technology and communications–but the conversation soon moved on to each designer’s thoughts on Twitter, branding, and yes, success.

White Light, White Heat: Upscale L.A. brand Fred Segal has partnered with Akomplice to sell a Paint Project-friendly kit to promote positive environmental decision-making. How, you ask? If everyone painted their roofs white (thereby lowering cooling costs by reflecting the sun’s light instead of absorbing it), the amount of energy saved would be comparable to taking every car in the world off the roads for 11 (!) years. Looks like white just may be the new black. {Coolhunting}

Christopher Lee Sauvé has always believed fashion industry insiders were as fascinating, if not more fascinating, than mainstream celebrities. The artist, best known for his “Save Anna” image, which was emblazoned on stickers and t-shirts a few seasons back, recently made headlines with his “I Was Touched by Terry” drawing, a commentary on the Terry [...]
