Remember YM’s awesome “Say Anything” column? Where readers wrote in their with most embarrassing stories about getting their period unexpectedly or farting in front of a boy they liked and being MORTIFIED about it? Well I’d like to submit the following story that, no joke, happened to me last night:
We were all completely blown away by the images released earlier today of Claudia Schiffer’s new campaign for Guess, twenty-three years after the German supermodel originally posed for the brand. Two decades later, the lady still looks as Guess-girl flawless as she did back in 1989, before she attained her supermodel status.
It got us to thinking: In the thirty years of Guess’s existence, which other big-names got their industry start modeling for the brand? We did a little digging, and as it turns out, there have been quite a few more than you might Guess (ha!). It seems like Victoria’s Secret (you know, that other brand known for its seriously sexy campaign starlets) has a habit of plucking its Angels from the pool of genetically blessed Guess girls. And then, there have also been a few Guess missteps (coughParis Hilton). As a natural redhead, my life has been marked by both fierce ridicule and serious hairdresser envy. “Ginger” might as well have been my second name for the better part of primary school, and I spent most of my tween years begging my mother to let me get blond highlights, never understanding why she kept refusing and ruining my life. Now, I silently thank her every day for the adamant refusal and count myself lucky for having a color that is nearly impossible to replicate from a bottle. There’s something to be said for being a member of the 2% of the world’s population who are natural reds.
Yet lately, I’ve been amused to notice that more and more celebrities have adopted the look. I learned to love my locks, yet no one else really seemed to and, in general, successful redheads are few and far between. There just aren’t that many of us, dyed or not, and as a result I developed a minor fascination with almost anyone with red hair. So this sudden development from negative nickname to rising trend has left me slightly confused. Why the sudden change of heart, ladies? I certainly can’t tell you–I was born this way (sorry).
This week, fashion’s finest and Hollywood’s sharpest were out in full force promoting their favorite labels. Thandie Newton showed off Spring 2011 Louis Vuitton in London, Eva Green wore her friend Tom Ford, and Drew Barrymore was decked out in Rag & Bone at the label’s Intermix event in Los Angeles. At the CFDA Award nominations party, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen wore…The Row! And CFDA winner Richard Chai wore…Richard Chai! And they all looked fantastic.

EBay’s New ‘See It On’ App Let’s You Virtually Try On Sunnies: Could this be the future of shopping? EBay’s new “See It On’ “augmented reality feature” lets users with the iPhone 4 virtually try on sunglasses.
