Katie Grand, Sarah Burton, Tom Ford Among British Fashion Award Nominees

Katie Grand, Sarah Burton, Tom Ford Among British Fashion Award Nominees

The British Fashion Council has just announced the nominees for the 2011 British Fashion Awards, which are essentially the U.K.’s answer to our prestigious CFDA’s. The ceremony, which is scheduled for November 28, is meant to recognize the most influential people in fashion today and also promote the growth of British fashion.

With all the attention the U.K. has been getting lately for that stylish princess of theirs and being dubbed the “new fashion capital,” British fashion is definitely more relevant than ever this year. That may be why the BFC has decided to re-introduce the Red Carpet award, which “gives recognition to a British designer who is creating global awareness of their designs in the media.”

From Kim Jones to Stella McCartney to Erdem, here are all the nominees:

Monday Model Roundup: Tanya D.’s New Name, DNA’s Brits and Marilyn’s Margherita

Truth: we love models. So that’s why we try our bestest to stay up to date on the ins-and-outs of the modeling world. (It’s a crazy place, for sure.)

Luckily a little birdy helped us out, with all this useful information.

For starters Belarussian blonde Tanya Dziahileva has moved to Marilyn in Paris. Not such big news, except that her new model card spells her last name as “Dyagileva.” I’m sure the pronunciation in Belarussian is similar, but for us English-speaking folks, Dyagileva is no easier to pronounce or spell. Perhaps her new agents wanted to give the model a fresh start? I mean, she has been working since age 13….

Also heading to Marilyn is Margherita Missoni, who leaves IMG’s boards for the Paris-based agency. It’s an interesting choice for an international socialite, since Marilyn has almost no celebrities or socialites, while IMG’s board includes fellow social butterflies Julia Reston Roitfeld, Liv Tyler, and Elisa Sendaoui. This could mean Margherita is attempting to go a more high-fashion route, although her family ties to Missoni have kept her from branching too far away. She basically wears Missoni to every event, which is more dedication and loyalty than most models show to anything.

Models Without Makeup? Just as Gorgeous (Obvi)

Models Without Makeup? Just as Gorgeous (Obvi)

It would be nice to say that models outshine us mere mortals due to retouching and professionally done makeup and hair, but sometimes they really are just…beautiful. Photographer Scott Trindle shot a handful of supermodels in the raw for an exhibition for the launch of London’s new Viva Modeling Agency and it must be said: the black and white images are stunning.

“It doesn’t scare me that the images aren’t retouched, it adds another layer of interest and intrigue,” Trindle said in an interview with Vogue UK. “So much can be adapted in post, and so I suppose the main benefit is its purity.”

Trindle snapped the models–who include Raquel Zimmermann, Imogen Newton, Edie Campbell and Natalia Vodianova–over the course of a year and eschewed big studio lighting for the soft interior of his Dalston flat. The images are quietly revealing, giving the viewer a sense of the real girl underneath the supermodel name. The simple, open-faced beauty is something rarely seen in this industry, and comes as a refreshing dose of what makes a model such an icon in the first place.
