In the latest episode of Vogue.com’s new cooking show, Elettra’s Goodness, host Elettra Wiedemann stops by Grace Coddington‘s apartment for a lesson in cooking up potatoes drenched in cream and cheese and meat cooked under a big slab of fat. Not only does Coddington love cats (her cat Bart makes an appearance) but she also eats like a normal person. We love.

Ever come across an old photo of your mom–you know, a photo from before you even existed–and thought, “Damn, my mom looks good” and then “OMG I want that whole outfit”?
Piper Weiss did, so she started a blog called My Mom the Style Icon where she posts photos of stylish moms that date from the 1920s through the 1980s, tells the stories of the moms in the photos, and offers up hilarious commentary on their outfits. That blog is now a book, and last night Coach threw a party to celebrate its release–just in time for mother’s day. (Seriously, buy it now for your mom).
True to her mom-style obsession, Weiss, who by day is an editor at Yahoo! Shine (you should read her stuff there because it’s hilarious), wore a vintage Pierre Cardin dress that was her mom’s in the 70s that she gave what she calls a “a shoulder pad-ectomy” and had shortened. Mama Weiss, the inspiration for the book, was there too, looking stylish as ever.
There are exceptions to every rule, but it seems style is more often than not passed down from mothers to child. So we brainstormed with Weiss to come up with the ten of the most fashionable mother and daughter pairs (and one mother-son pair), and she offered her two cents on each stylish duo. The iconic W bag is named after the company’s matriarch, Wanda Ferragamo, and is decidedly travel-inspired. “For the Resort 2011 collection I drew heavily from the Mediterranean and the new jet set crowd that holidays on the coast,” Massimiliano Giornetti said in a release. “I’m always curious to know what inspires others and how their sources of inspiration affect their daily lives and style choices. With the technology of today, the W List was created to share stories that inspire ourselves and inspire others digitally as we travel the globe at a second’s thought.”
It’s a rare day when fashion people actually look like they’re having fun–pure, unadulterated fun–at a runway show. But tonight at the Pierre Hotel, Alber Elbaz debuted his Lanvin x H&M collection. So things were different.
The Scene: A tiny ballroom at the Pierre Hotel on the Upper East Side, and a runway decorated with mounds of hydrangeas. (Inspired by Yves Saint Laurent, who liked to decorate his runways similarly.)
The Players: Friends Sofia Coppola and Anna Sui (who wore a mix of Lanvin and her own designs), Andie Macdowell (the only person who makes me wish my hair was curly again), Alex Wang, Sally Singer, Grace Coddington, Emma Roberts, Elettra Wiedemann, and a gaggle of bloggers, including Fashionista favorites Susie Bubble, Phil Oh, and Bryan Boy.
The Runway:Yes, the one-of-a-kind versions of the H&M collection were stunning. But really, it was all about the atmosphere. And Anna Dello Russo. The models pranced down the runway much like they used to before the ’90s, “making love with the camera,” if you will. But of course ADR stole the show, stomping down the catwalk with a grey poodle. We love Anna, but a poodle makes her irresistible.
