Elizabeth Hurley and Lady Gaga Go Punk

New blog Part Nouveau, or ‘partly new’, delves into fashion history to showcase the inspiration–be it art, photography or design–behind some of today’s biggest fashion moments. It’s fascinating and impossible not to get lost in, so we asked the site’s founder, Lilah Ramzi, to give us a little history lesson each week.

Today’s lesson? Versace’s punk legacy lives on.

Roberto Cavalli Spring 2013

The Clothes: You really know we’re looking at a season with a ‘less is more’ philosophy when Roberto Cavalli, the king of opulence and animal prints, pares it down. Cavalli opened his show with a series of all-white looks that were surprisingly sedate, save for the intricate eyelet. Eventually the runway did give way to Read more →

Looking Good Is The Best Revenge: 11 Famous Jilted Exes Who Got Even By Looking Hot

Looking Good Is The Best Revenge: 11 Famous Jilted Exes Who Got Even By Looking Hot

Maria Shriver is going through hell this week. But somehow, even as news of her soon-to-be-ex-husband Arnold Schwarzenegger’s affair and love child with one of their staffers broke, she managed to put on a brave face, sexy blue sequined dress and inject some serious volume into her hair for an appearance at her buddy Oprah’s celeb-filled farewell spectacular in Chicago yesterday.

It’s hard to imagine how she pulled it together for such a public appearance amidst the media onslaught about the torrid demise of her marriage. But here are some women–politicians’ wives and celebrities alike, who probably can imagine what Shriver is going through. They all weathered incredibly messy and public splits and through it all they held their heads high and managed to look fantastic. Take a look:

Harper’s Bazaar Fetes the Winners of its “Fabulous at Every Age” Contest (and Glenda Bailey Tells Us Which Editor She Thinks Is Hot)

Last night Harper’s Bazaar and Estée Lauder held a lovely cocktail reception at Hearst Tower to celebrate the winners of its second annual “Fabulous at Every Age” reader contest. It was a girl-power love fest, leaving a good chunk of the room weepy by the end of the presentation.

I snuck in a quick chat with Harper Bazaar’s EIC, Glenda Bailey (in Erdem), before the presentation started. She talked about what a huge franchise “Fabulous at Every Age” is for the mag, saying, “When I’m walking along and someone wants to get my attention, they don’t go ‘Harper’s Bazaar!’ or ‘Glenda!’ They say, ‘Fabulous at every age!’” When I mentioned that I recently had a birthday and had to jump to the next age category she said, “As somebody who is not in the 70-year-old category (she’s 52), I find myself lusting after the 70-year-old picks–so I have something to look forward to in my 60s and 70s! The spirit of it is, you immediately look to where you are, but then you look a little bit before and a little bit after.”

Bloomie’s Spreads Breast Cancer Awareness With a Little Help From Elizabeth Hurley. And Bloggers.

Ralph Lauren wasn’t the only prominent brand to (smartly) tap into online media audiences when spreading breast cancer awareness this month. On Wednesday, Bloomingdale’s, along with the Estée Lauder Companies’ 2010 Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign, hosted a worldwide social media event to benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This year, a handful of bloggers participated by recreating the campaign’s signature visual. Elizabeth Hurley (Estée Lauder spokesmodel) and Evelyn Lauder, Senior Corporate Vice President of The Estée Lauder Companies and Founder and Chairman of The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, kindly took a moment to talk to us about the campaign and the huge impact it’s made.

First of all, Evelyn and Elizabeth were two of the most glamorous people I think I’ve ever seen in real life.

Estée Lauder Signs Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski as The Brand’s Newest Faces

Estée Lauder’s just announced their newest brand ambassadors, Liu Wen and Constance Jablonski. They’re both firsts—Liu’s the first Chinese model to be signed to the luxury beauty brand (and she was the first Asian model to walk the Victoria’s Secret runway, too). Meanwhile, Constance is the first French girl to land a Lauder campaign. They Read more →

PETA Slightly Accomplishes Mission

In case you haven’t heard, Liz Hurley’s the new face of Blackglama, the (in)famous line of furs. The ad itself is kind of silly. She crouches, she pouts, she wears nothing but her mink, but it’s her presence in general that’s worth discussing. In the past, women like Catherine Deneuve, Marlene Dietrich, Judy Garland and Read more →

Thinking Outside the Box

We thought Gwyneth Paltrow’s July Bazaar cover was just a very delayed reaction to Iron Man – turns out it’s part of a 40-page Estée Lauder campaign that continues within the magazine, just barely disguised as editorial. The cosmetic giant placed the four faces of their new perfume, Sensuous, throughout the issue, even though the Read more →
