Highlight: Columbine Smille

Highlight: Columbine Smille

Introducing Highlight, a new series in which we feature a photograph from a personal style or street style blog that perfectly demonstrates a trend, shows off particularly stand out style, or is just a great photo. And we’re talking beyond the Sartorialist and Fashion Toast here–we’re scouring the fashion blogosphere.

Columbine Smille is one of my favorite bloggers. Columbine began her career as the assistant to Swedish TV presenter, H&M collaborator and stylist Elin Kling and the two Scandinavian style mavens have worked together ever since. Currently, Columbine is the fashion editor at Elin’s new magazine, Styleby. In addition to taking photographs of her daily outfits and fabulous friends, Columbine also posts images of lust-worthy items that make it into the studio. Columbine is a true pro at mixing Celine with Asos, Miu Miu with Zara and Acne with Topshop. An insider bonus of following her site is being introduced to Swedish chain stores like Monki, Lindex and Gina Tricot.

The Dolce & Gabbana Dress Gisele Wears on Emmanuelle’s First Vogue Paris Cover Appears on Two Other International Vogue Covers

The news just keeps pouring in about Vogue Paris’ April 2011 cover, the first under the tenure of new EIC Emmanuelle Alt.

Apparently the lace Dolce & Gabbana dress Gisele sports on Vogue Paris’ cover appears on the February and April covers of two other magazines. Even worse, the two other mags are editions of Vogue: Spain and Germany.

Textbook for Fashionista: Emmanuelle Alt!

Who doesn’t know Emmanuelle Alt? Even before her somewhat new role as Editor-in-Chief at Vogue Paris, she was making waves in the blogosphere as their Fashion Director. She’s typically spotted in a Kate Lanphear-esque ensemble–jeans or leather pants, a simple shirt and some kind of awesome blazer or coat. Ms. Alt has certainly nailed her street style pose too, but being shot as many times as she is, who wouldn’t develop a trademark stance?

Emmanuelle Alt’s First Vogue Paris Cover to Feature Gisele in Dolce & Gabbana

Ever since Emmanuelle Alt was named as Carine Roitfeld’s successor at Vogue Paris, there’s been much speculation as to what Alt would do with the revered mag.

Early on Gisele Bündchen was confirmed as Alt’s first cover, shot by Inez and Vinoodh in St. Barth’s, but what would she wear? We thought perhaps Balenciaga, as a way put an end to the bad blood between Vogue Paris and the iconic French brand that existed during Carine’s reign. Others thought Balmain or Isabel Marant were shoe-ins because of Alt’s previous position as stylist to those two houses. (Jobs she gave up for her new gig as Editor-in-Chief.)

Today, however, the mystery is over, as Alt confirmed to Vogue UK that the cover would feature Gisele wearing Dolce & Gabbana.

Why Gisele is Likely To Wear Balenciaga on Emmanuelle Alt’s First Vogue Paris Cover

News just broke that Gisele Bündchen will cover Emmanuelle Alt‘s first issue of Vogue Paris. It should hit newsstands in March.

Modelinia reports that the Super was shot in St. Barts by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matatin. But what will she wear?

We’d bet several dollars–if it wasn’t, you know, illegal–that Bündchen will be decked out in Balenciaga for this spread.

Emmanuelle Alt is the New Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Paris

After less than a month of speculation, Vogue Paris has announced that its new editor-in-chief is Emanuelle Alt.

Alt, a stylist known most recently for her work with Balmain and Isabel Marant, will replace Carine Roitfeld immediately, according to the magazine’s website. And here’s where we offload some gossip:

According to our reliable sources, Roitfeld and Alt haven’t been getting along recently. Roitfeld went to Jonathan Newhouse, complaining that “something had to be done” about the situation. Newhouse, “fed up” with Roitfeld’s shady dealings–that Balenciaga thing we reported on a year ago, the stuff Racked reported on last month–told the editor that the thing to be done was her resignation.

Fashion News Roundup: Emmanuelle Alt Rumored To Take Over For Carine Roitfeld, Jennifer Aniston Tries Out Journalism, and Roland Mouret Puts Those Rumors About Him Ghost Designing For Victoria Beckham To Rest For Good

Emmanuelle Alt To Take The Reigns At French Vogue?: WWD has it from “industry sources” that French Vogue‘s fashion director, Emmanuelle Alt is rumored to be on the short list to replace Carine Roitfeld as editor. Apparently Virginie Mouzat, Le Figaro’s fashion editor, is still in the running as well. {WWD subscription required}

Roland Mouret Does NOT Ghost Design For Victoria Beckham, OK?: There were always rumors that Mouret had a hand in designing Victoria Beckham’s well-received collections and one journo recently asked him about it. Here’s what he said: Mouret retorted with the following outburst: “Oh my God, that question! Politicians, movie stars, it’s always the first things they want to know and I’m like, why? Why would I want to design a collection for Victoria Beckham? Yes she is a friend and yes she asks for advice and yes I told her the name of a pattern cutter, but she has lots of friends she asks for advice – Marc Jacobs. I like to help people that’s all.” {Telegraph}

Jennifer Aniston, Reporter?: Jennifer Aniston interviews her Just Go With It costar Nicole Kidman in the latest Harper’s Bazaar and she’s pretty good at it. And then they do this thing where they’re all “You’re pretty,” “No, you’re pretty!” which is funny. {Harper’s Bazaar}

Kellwood Acquires Rebecca Taylor: Kellwood Co. continues their acquisition spree with Rebecca Taylor. Last year they acquired Adam, by Adam Lippes, and Isis. The Daily Front Row is reporting that Kellwood has Gryphon in their sites next. {WWD subscription required}

More On Carine’s Plans After French Vogue (Hint: They Do Not Involve Tom Ford)

More On Carine’s Plans After French Vogue (Hint: They Do Not Involve Tom Ford)

The fashion world was sent reeling last Friday when news broke that Carine Roitfeld would leave French Vogue after serving as the mag’s editor for the past 10 years.

After recovering from the shock, speculations began as to whom would succeed Roitfeld (fashion director Emmanuelle Alt seems to be the front runner but we assembled a list of our fantasy picks), and what Roitfeld would do next.

Though Roitfeld told Cathy Horyn at the New York Times that she has “no plan at all” after she steps down in the coming weeks, industry insiders began speculating that she might return to Tom Ford. Which would make sense given their close relationship–Carine served as Ford’s muse and stylist while he was at Gucci in the ’90s and helped propel the brand to success, Ford just launched his own women’s collection, and most recently, he guest-edited French Vogue (an issue Roitfeld styled).

Alas, no such reunion is in the cards (yet).

Breaking: Carine Roitfeld to Leave French Vogue

Breaking: Carine Roitfeld to Leave French Vogue

Carine Roitfeld, the beloved and massively influential editor of French Vogue, will resign in a few weeks to focus on personal projects. Roitfeld helmed the mag for the past 10 years. Under her tenure, French Vogue became one of the most daring fashion publications, a hallmark for what was cool in the world of fashion.

“It’s 10 years that I’m editor of the magazine, I think it’s time to do something different,” Roitfeld told Cathy Horyn at the New York Times. “When everything is good, maybe I think it’s the time to do something else.”

While rumors once circulated (around two years ago) that Roitfeld would take over for Anna Wintour at American Vogue, Roitfeld confessed to the Times that she has absolutely “no plan at all” post-Vogue.

Roitfeld, 56, who got her start as a model and a stylist, styled many of the magazine’s memorable and envelope-pushing editorials, including this last issue, which was guest-edited by Tom Ford. “I had so much freedom to do everything I wanted,” Roitfeld told the Times. “I think I did a good job.”

That would be an understatement. “It is impossible to overstate Carine’s powerful contribution to Vogue and to the fields of fashion and magazine publishing. Under her direction, Vogue Paris received record levels of circulation and advertising and editorial success,” Jonathan Newhouse, ceo of Condé Nast International told Vogue UK’s website. “Carine herself has become widely known as a beacon of style, fulfilling the role with charm and graciousness. She has become a giant in her profession [and] will be deeply missed. I am extremely grateful to her for what she has achieved.”

Carine’s replacement will be announced within the next few weeks. Her absence will be a gaping hole in the industry, but a few names are already being buzzed about to fill her shoes:
