It’s Thanksgiving! The one day a year the fashion world puts aside its fad diets and smizes in favor of that extra slice of pumpkin pie and some awkward yet so-necessary family photos. To keep things light on this day of heavy feasting, we asked some of our favorite people in the industry what fashion things (what else?) they’re thankful for.

Hurricane Sandy is upon us–but the fashion industry isn’t letting this Frankenstorm bring them down.
We checked in with some of our favorite people in the industry–from The Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine to Kelly Cutrone to DKNY PR Girl Aliza Licht–to find out how they prepped for tonight’s storm. Franca Sozzani Gets Pinned: On Wednesday, Franca Sozzani was inducted into the French Legion of Honor, the highest honor in the country and one received by the likes of Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld. The Vogue Italia editor stayed loyal to her Italian roots, wearing a Dolce and Gabbana dress straight from the Fall ’12 runway. Jennifer’s Body (Double): Jennifer Lopez was spotted filming her new music video in Mexico with her body double, which is not surprising until you realize her body double is a dude. A dude who actually looks like a dead ringer for Lopez. Turns out Lopez isn’t the only celebrity using male body doubles: Sarah Jessica Parker, who is afraid of heights, had one while filming Did You Hear About the Morgans? for a balcony scene. {Grazia UK}
The holidays are all about nostalgia and one of the things we’ve been nostalgic about lately is hand turkeys! You know, that childhood arts and crafts thing where you trace your hand and make it look like a turkey? To be honest, we aren’t all that crafty anymore, but our fashion friends, like Erica Domesek from P.S. I Made This for example, are like the craftiest people ever, so we asked them to help us out with this little project and they obliged.
Erica helped us assemble hand turkey-making kits, which we then sent out to some of our favorite designers, editors and other fashion peeps who then created some of the most impressive hand turkeys we’ve ever seen (we are super thankful for all of you!!). Our friend Erica Domesek of P.S. I Made This fame is making an appearance at the FIT Barnes & Noble tonight from 4 to 7pm to speak about her experiences in the industry and to do a little project. She’ll discuss her early days in fashion, how the blog came to be and its unexpected but amazing success.
There will be a signing of her book as well, and advice for similarly aspiring fashionites. Afterward she’ll show how to DIY a summer staple, the fringed scarf. Make sure to bring an old t-shirt so that you can make your own!
Fascinated by fascinators? Kate Middleton‘s fondness for fascinators (they’re de rigueur for royals and posh Brits at formal affairs) have created an increased fascination for the frou frou head pieces. Google searches for fascinator are up 50% since January and sales have spiked at the few US retailers that sell them, according to CNN.
