I Took a Spin Class With the Victoria’s Secret Angels: Here’s Everything I Learned

Imagine taking spin class for the first time in your life. Now imagine the other girls riding stationary alongside you are the Victoria’s Secret Angels. Pretty intimidating, right? Well, that’s exactly what I did last night at SoulCycle in Manhattan’s Upper East Side for the 2nd Annual Supermodel Cycle ride–which donated 100% of its proceeds to the Pelotonia cancer charity bike ride in Columbus, Ohio. It was surreal, to say the least.

I kitted up in my fluoro-pink Victoria’s Secret workout gear to chat with Angels Lindsay Ellingson, Erin Heatherton, Behati Prinsloo, my ultimate lady-crush Doutzen Kroes, and brand new spokes-angel Arlenis Sosa before we (ok, I) got our bums absolutely kicked by the seriously intense spin class. So what did I learn from my supermodel workout with the Angels?

Victoria’s Secret has definitely got a monopoly on the sexy market (which exists!), a fact that was made even more clear at last night’s Very Sexy for Spring 2012 show. “Hosted” by Angels Erin Heatherton and Miranda Kerr, the hour-long talk show-esque event, which was streamed live online, also included appearances from other Victoria’s Secret insiders who are experts on sexy (the noun). The web broadcast marked Victoria’s Secret’s further foray into being a lifestyle brand for all those aspiring Angels out there–lingerie was barely mentioned throughout the night.

Here’s what we learned (hint: Erin Heatherton loves HGTV almost as much as we do, and the Angel moms do NOT have play dates).

Before They Were Angels: A Look at the Victoria’s Secret Models When They Had Braces and Bowl Cuts

The Victoria’s Secret fashion show is airing tonight (on CBS, 10/9C), and it’s always a spectacle of physical perfection. We don’t know if this will make you feel any better, but we dug up some pictures of some of the well-known Angels, and while–yes, they were obviously adorable–they’ve also had their share of bad bowl haircuts, gangly limbs, and mom-imposed fashion. But they’ve all emerged from their cocoons to earn their Angel wings (um, sorry for mixing metaphors there) and we’re excited to see the whole extravaganza tonight.

Blond Victoria’s Secret bombshells Candice Swanepoel and Erin Heatherton graciously hosted a dinner on the rooftop of the Gramercy Hotel Tuesday night to celebrate the launch of the new ‘Angel’ scent. They chowed down with us (yes, we can vouch for that) and dished about their nerves for the upcoming Victoria’s Secret runway show on November 9 (it airs on CBS on November 29), how they keep their bodies “underwear ready” all year long (they never stop working out), and addressed some misconceptions about the Angels. Both girls were refreshingly candid about their jobs and the hard work that goes into looking like they do (OK, some of it’s just genetics).

Express decided to do things differently for their Spring/Summer 2011 show. Hitting the streets of Manhattan’s Flat Iron District, the brand turned the corner of Broadway and 23rd Street into a public fashion show, inviting everyone to watch. As curiosity built up, a crowd of tourists, teens, and even nearby food vendors started to gather along the catwalk. By the the time the first model stomped the runway, we had ourselves a full-on outdoor fashion show–eclectic crowd and all.
