Filipa Fino Tells Us Why Her New Online Mag Fino File Won’t Be Like Vogue

After 11 years at Vogue, most recently serving as the mag’s senior accessories editor, Filipa Fino is leaving the glossy world behind for digital, or, as she describes it, ‘the wild wild west.’ While the circumstances surrounding Fino’s departure from Vogue last June made headlines for the wrong reasons (was she fired? WWD insinuated there was “inappropriate behavior” while Fino denied any rumors of her firing to Page Six), her newest venture, an online mag devoted to accessories, should eclipse that bad buzz. Fino is one of the first, as she would say ‘old-school,’ glossy vets (from Vogue no less) to break off to compete with blogs and fashion sites run by relative newbies. And that makes us sit up straight and take notice.

Fino File will be a monthly online magazine with an e-commerce component that is set to launch before the fall shows in February. There will also be a weekly newsletter of sorts (it’s in the works) emailed out to subscribers featuring shopping tips and things that catch Fino’s eye. But she’s releasing a holiday gift guide on November 28 as a teaser of what’s to come–it will feature wish lists from Tory Burch, Narciso Rodriguez and Prabal Gurung as well as Fino’s own expertly curated gift picks. We got on the phone with Fino who was refreshingly candid about why she decided to make the jump to digital and why Vogue can’t keep up.

Former Vogue Editor Filipa Fino is Launching Her Own Consulting Company

Former Vogue senior accessories editor Filipa Fino has been getting a decent amount of attention since WWD announced her departure from the magazine on Monday. The little blurb WWD included about Fino’s alleged “inappropriate behavior” that was subsequently taken out was what really got bloggers talking. In case you were wondering how Filipa feels about all this attention, she loves it! And she’s so excited to be freed from the clutches of Vogue so she can do her own thing. At around 7pm last night she tweeted:

Can’t believe attn I’m getting! lol After 11 years I’m flying solo. So excited abt new co FFConsulting. Stay tuned. More to come.

Filipa, who is going to have to change her Twitter handle (@FFVogue), didn’t waste any time before announcing a new, albeit predictable, venture: consulting. Her husband, restauranteur Stratis Morfogen, also has Twitter and offered his support for his “wifey”:

Editorial Musical Chairs: Filipa Fino Out at Vogue, W Loses Carolyn Tate Angel and More

WWD broke the news yesterday that Vogue‘s senior accessories editor Filipa Fino suddenly left the magazine after 11 years with the company. The following statement was included in the trade publication’s initial report, but has since been mysteriously removed: “Sources hinted that Fino’s departure could allegedly be tied to some inappropriate behavior on her part.”

There may be some truth to that statement. Multiple sources within Conde Nast and beyond have relayed to us that Fino acted unprofessionally in regards to the fashion closet and expenses.

No word yet on who will replace Fino. We reached out to Conde Nast for additional comment, but they declined to elaborate. Fino’s exit was only one of many recent shakeups within Conde Nast.

Coincidentally another of Conde Nast’s senior editors was just axed–W‘s senior fashion market editor Carolyn Tate Angel.

Lady Gaga Scribbles on a Birkin, YSL Makes a $450 Adaptor & That Balmain T-shirt’s Starting to Look Sane

We’re done gawking at Balmain‘s obscenely priced t-shirt, but today we kept shouting, “What?!” 1. Socks in shoes. This is like troempe l’oiel clothing, which we’ve railed against in the past, but why would you buy shoes with socks sewn in when you can buy the same shoe without a sock and choose whether or Read more →

The Blog Moves Up at Fashion Week

There was a mini-debate going on in the comments section of a Paris post. One person decreed that blogs aren’t press and therefore shouldn’t sit in the press section of a show while another pointed out that we obviously aren’t buyers which together puts us in a rather awkward category. Blogs are, according to most Read more →
