Internships have been at the center of a growing—and increasingly publicized–storm of malcontent lately, with protesters arguing that they should be paid and hours should be more tightly regulated. One unpaid intern is even suing Hearst. And yes, interns have been asked to pick up dog poop, or worse. But are all fashion internships truly horror stories?

We recently attended the Pratt, Parsons and FIT student designer shows–so what better time to talk internships than with the city’s hardworking design students, some of whom did up to six internships during their schooling.

Fashion 2.0 Awards Winners Announced: The 3rd annual Fashion 2.0 Awards, which honors the fashion brands that have been most innovative in the media and technology, were held in NYC last night by the Style Coalition. Winners of the night included DKNY for Best Twitter, Marc Jacobs for Best Website, and one of our personal favs, Instagram for the Next Big Thing in Tech. The big winners of the night, for the Fashion 2.0 Visionary Award, were Gilt Group co-founders Alexis Maybank and Alexandra Wilkis Wilson. {Fashionista Inbox}

Though no law suit has been formally filed, rumors are swirling that Tory Burch is on the verge of suing ex-husband and business partner Christopher for trade infringement over his new venture C. Daphne Guinness/FIT Exhibit Sponsor Pressured to Pull Out: Human rights group Adalah-NY is demanding the immediate withdrawal of Leviev Diamonds as a sponsor to the Daphne Guinness exhibit over at FIT. Apparently, Adalah-NY has beef with Lev Leviev (the company’s owner), over his ties to the West Bank. If Guinness holds on to this sponsorship, Adalah-NY has pledged to protest the exhibit. {WWD subscription required}

Cyber Monday Breaks Records: Analysts are estimating that retailers made close to $1.2 billion yesterday off Cyber Monday deals, up 33% from last year. As of 10pm last night, the tally was at $1.03 billion. {WSJ}

Some of you are just back to school and some of us are sadly done with school for good but we remember how fun it was to gather all your required back-to-school reading and dive in (okay, we were nerds). So in the spirit of the back-to-school reading list, we’ve put together a list of some awesome, essential, fashion reading. There are some really beautiful and important fashion books out recently and they are worth investing in. And that means actually going and buying the hardcover versions because these books are filled with Karl Lagerfeld illustrations, Diana Vreeland-styled editorials, and more really good stuff. Stuff not to be wasted on an e-reader.
