Image of the Day: Franca Sozzani Covers Industrie

The outspoken and sassy Italian Vogue editor-in-chief is looking rather mysterious on the cover of the latest issue of Industrie. Sozzani follows in the footsteps of Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott and, before that, Marc Jacobs in drag for Issue 4 of the glossy, which is published twice yearly.

Want a Byline on Vogue Italia? Italian Vogue‘s Franca Sozzani Launches Online Fashion Encyclopedia With Reader Submissions

Want a Byline on Vogue Italia? Italian Vogue‘s Franca Sozzani Launches Online Fashion Encyclopedia With Reader Submissions

Want an Italian Vogue byline? If so, you’re in luck, as they are apparently pretty easy to come by these days.

A few months ago, Italian Vogue editor in chief Franca Sozzani posted an open call for pitches on her blog for a vague new online project. Even though it wasn’t at all clear where she was going with it, tons of people sent in pitches (via the comments section) and she even publicly critiqued almost every one.

The recently-launched Vogue Encyclo seems to be the result. (Thanks to WWD for bringing to our attention.) It is not unlike American Vogue‘s Voguepedia in that it identifies fashion’s important people, places and things, encyclopedia-style. However, like Wikipedia, Vogue Encyclo’s articles are all reader contributions, as in anyone can participate and, pending review from Vogue staffers, will receive a byline.

Franca Sozzani Thinks Dior Should Hire John Galliano Back: The Italian Vogue editor says, “ I understand [Dior's] point of view…and they couldn’t just say, ‘Bad boy! We forgive you! Come back!’ But it’s really a pity. And I will never believe he believed what he said.” {The Daily Beast}

Franca Sozzani is Launching a New Vogue Italia Channel and Taking Her Editing Process Public

Franca Sozzani took to her Vogue Italia blog this week to introduce a new online project. The self-professed hater and, then, lover of blogs is planning to launch a new channel to Vogue.it, which currently has four: V Talents, V Curvy, V TV and yes, V Black. In her post announcing the project, she is as unfiltered as ever.

Here is how she describes the new channel:

As from September a new project will be launched, or better, a new channel. And for all those who love to write this channel will be ideal. We will be speaking about fashion, photography, designers, fabrics, accessories, purses, shoes, jewelry, and hairstyles. And more, fashion, cinema and art, news from the world always linked to fashion, customs, traditions and the history of a Country.

So basically…everything? And yes, she is crowd sourcing for contributors, which wouldn’t be that weird if she wasn’t making the entire pitching and editing process public on her blog.

Franca Sozzani Actually Loves Bloggers

Franca Sozzani Actually Loves Bloggers

Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani seems to have a lot of opinions about, well, everything, but she’s had a lot to say on the subject of bloggers lately, some of which has been a tad contradictory.

She dug herself into a little bit of a hole in January when she ranted on her own, um, blog on Vogue Italia’s site, about how bloggers were an “epidemic” who “don’t hold a real importance in the business.”

She was quick to dig herself out of said hole when influential blogger Liberty London Girl gave her the chance in a recent–and very interesting–interview at an event at Harvey Nichols. It was part of “Vogue Experiences,” a series of events with panels and discussions where young creatives show up to get advice and network. Despite the aforementioned rant, Franca seemed to have no idea why people think she dislikes bloggers:

Franca Sozzani on Her Plus Size Model Cover: The cover of Vogue Italia’s June issue features three plus size models clad in lingerie. Sozzani says she while she doesn’t expect the cover to incite any drastic changes in the fashion industry, she does hope it will make people think. Proenza Schouler Talks Tech at the IFB Conference; Tommy Hilfiger Talks Up the Garment Center at Parsons’ Innovation Panel

In the midst of this week’s shows there are some truly interesting conversations going on at Milk Studios. I’ve been fortunate enough to sit in on two of them.

Thursday night, it was the Proenza Schouler talk at the IFB conference. Design duo Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez sat down with the Business of Fashion‘s Imran Amed to discuss The Web. (As in bloggers, e-commerce, and viral campaigns.)
