Francisco Costa on Rejecting Tom Ford and the Met Gala’s Punk Theme

This past weekend, the fashion crowd made its annual pilgrimage to Savannah, Georgia for Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD)’s senior fashion show–and this year I had the pleasure of being a part of it–and even got to interview Francisco Costa, this year’s recipient of the Andre Leon Talley Lifetime Achievement Award.

We chatted about Savannah, his own fashion education, career challenges, and celebrity dressing–including his experience outfitting a few A-listers for this month’s Met Gala. Also–expect another mass collaboration in the near future.

Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa Is Doing a Capsule Collection for Macy’s

Minimalists on a budget, take note: Macy’s latest designer collaboration is going to be right up your (very straight and non-cluttered) alley. Macy’s has teamed up with Calvin Klein Collection designer Francisco Costa, who will do a capsule collection for the retailer’s “A Magical Journey to Brasil” promotion, WWD is reporting. While Macy’s already carries Read more →

Fashion News Roundup: Hello Kitty Lingerie is On the Way, Adriana Lima is the Latest Pregnant Angel, and Anna Wintour Hosts a Democratic Party

Hello Kitty Lingerie Coming Soon: Lingerie brand Hanky Panky has teamed up with everyone’s favorite mouthless cartoon cat, Hello Kitty, on a collection of undergarments. (Why no mouth? Because Hello Kitty “speaks from the heart.”) Since there are honestly too many R-rated, half-witty comments and puns just begging to be made about this collaboration, we’ll spare you entirely and will simply say: The collection launches in May. {Racked}

Another Victoria’s Secret Angel is Pregnant: There must be something in the holy water at Victoria’s Secret because yet another Angel is pregnant! Adriana Lima announced yesterday that she’s expecting her second child, which puts her on the growing list of growing bikini babes (including Lily Aldridge and Alessandra Ambrosio). No word on how far along she is, but the VS Fashion Show takes place in November (8 mos away), and we wouldn’t be a bit surprised if she shows up with a six pack. {People}

Anna Wintour Parties with the Democrats: As the election creeps closer, fashion’s love affair with the Democratic Party hasn’t shown signs of fading. Monday night, Anna Wintour hosted a fund-raiser to re-elect NY Senator Dem Kirsten Gillibrand, who also sat front row at Carolina Herrera’s show last month. Other politically savvy fashion folk in attendance included DVF, Kenneth Cole, Francisco Costa, and Michel Kors. {WWD}

Triumphant Minimalism at Narciso and Calvin
Fashion Week

Triumphant Minimalism at Narciso and Calvin

NYFW came to a close with two immaculate collections by two of New York’s most important and relevant designers, Narciso Rodriguez and Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein.

Both designers went back to their roots for SS11. Cut was the star of each collection, each reworking minimalism in a season where it seems like everyone is striving to be the next Helmut Lang. But Rodriguez and Costa are anything but followers. Each has such a strong, focused voice–their collections stood out from the whitewashed masses like rays of light.

Ten Questions for Project Runway
People Are Talking

Ten Questions for Project Runway

1. Was anyone else outraged that Michael Kors wasn’t judging? Did he somehow know he would be getting the CFDA’s Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award and preemptively distance himself from the train wreck that Project Runway has become? 2. Who rocked color better this week: Seth Aaron wearing fuchsia pants or Anthony wearing an aqua Read more →

My Adventure at Calvin Klein
Fall 2010 New York

My Adventure at Calvin Klein

“Kate! Kate! Kate! Over here! Kate!” There was a mob of photographers—unlike any I’ve seen all week—surrounding the sidewalk at Calvin Klein yesterday, and they were screaming my name. Of course they weren’t shouting for me; they were shouting for Kate Bosworth. We both happened to arrive at the exact same time, and when I Read more →

Tavi Pens a Column for Bazaar

Well hold on to your Tavi hat, because the pint-size fashion blogger’s landed her most mainstream gig yet. She’s written a column in this month’s Kate Hudson-covered issue of Harper’s Bazaar. WWD pulls this quote from her musings on the SS10 collections, “Raf Simons at Jil Sander presented dresses and skirts that appeared vulnerable from Read more →
