And the CFDA Award Winners Are…

The fashion Oscars CFDA awards have wrapped: The Olsens took home the big prize for womenswear for the Row (they very adorably thanked each other); Seth Meyers wore Marc Jacobs’ Met ball outfit (and dared to make a Galliano joke); Garance Dore had folks tearing up when she accepted her award by telling the audience to “take your fun very seriously…[and] maybe one day you will start a revolution”; and John Waters proved the perfect person to pick up awards for both Comme des Garçons‘ Rei Kawakubo (“I wear Comme des Garcons to be fashionable in private…We know how great her clothes look but others just think we’re poor”) and Johnny Depp (“He has fashion balls…he was a pirate Pepe Le Pew way before I met him”). And the industry recognized its finest talents this year.

Without further ado, the 2012 CFDA award winners:

Are Scott Schuman and Garance Doré Over Street Style?

The CFDA Awards are coming up and, for the first time, two bloggers will receive the Media Award: street style power couple Scott Schuman (aka The Sartorialist) and Garance Doré. While we already knew blogging could be a potentially lucrative career, the award signifies that it can also be considered a legitimate one, deserving of high-profile recognition in media as a whole.

The award also comes at an interesting time for the medium of street style–which has changed quite a bit since Schuman started The Sartorialist, with dozens of new photographers popping up every fashion week and show-goers dressing up with the sole purpose of becoming a part of the spectacle.

Understandably, Scott and Garance seem to be growing tired of this, they tell Style.com in a joint interview. Neither seem to like the term “street style,” or at least, what it has become. From their differences in shooting styles, to the “Russian young ladies” who “want it too much,” to the future of street style, read on for the best bits from the interview.

Fashion News Roundup: Queen Elizabeth’s Undies are Up for Auction, Opening Ceremony is Going to Print, and Kristen Stewart Dresses in Drag for Elle

Kristen Stewart covers Elle‘s June issue and swears up a storm in the accompanying article. She poses with herself dressed as a man for the editorial, and we have to say, she’s one hot dude. {ONTD}

Giorgio Armani, who will turn 78 in July, is reportedly creating a foundation that will ensure total control over the future of his brand. It all sounds very secretive and James Bond-esque, and of course, Armani reps won’t comment. {WWD}

Here’s one sure-fire way to brighten your Monday: J.Crew’s colorful collaboration with CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund runners up Creatures of the Wind launches today. {SheFinds}

Opening Ceremony will debut a magazine this August called OC Annual. Each issue will be built around a theme, and first up is (what else?) the London 2012 Olympics. {Refinery29}

Aurelie Bidermann Fetes Her New ‘Bidermann’ Collection for Barneys

Last night fancy fashion folks feted (like that alliteration? hmmm?) the launch of Aurelie Bidermann‘s first collection exclusively for Barney’s over dinner at Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria. Simon Doonan, Barneys Ambassador at Large, was there to welcome editors and socialites like host Garance Dore, Rachel Chandler, Bonnie Morrison, Lauren Remington Platt and Amanda Ross to name a few.

“Welcome to Arby’s! This is Arby’s,” Doonan announced at the start of our feast, which included enough cured and roasted meats to feed a small army (we weren’t complaining). I laughed but not many others did. Later that night Doonan bemoaned his joke falling flat. “Maybe fashion people don’t know about how delicious fast food roast beef is?” I posited.

Garance Doré Doesn’t Think The Vogue Kiddie Diet Article Was Necessarily A Bad Thing: While we’re all up in arms over Dara Lynn Weiss’ “Weight Watcher” testimony in this month’s Vogue, blogger Garance Doré thinks it does serve a positive purpose. She writes, “…I find it good that Vogue, through that testimony, breaks the silence of one of those ‘normal’ women that live with a food disorder all their life.” While she makes a good argument for awareness, it’s not like there isn’t a huge discourse about eating disorders, especially in the fashion world. We’re more concerned about the psychological effects Weiss’ actions had on her perfectly healthy seven-year-old. {The Cut}

Dolce & Gabbana Sues Dolce & Banana: No, this is real. The famed Italian design house has filed a lawsuit against Cape Town gift shop Dolce & Banana for trademark infringement, claiming the store “makes a mockery of the well-known trademark, Dolce & Gabbana.” Sounds like Domencio and Stefano are not fans of clever puns. {Racked}

Fashionista’s Week in Review: Victoria’s Secret Goes High End, Amy Winehouse’s Family Is Not Happy with Jean Paul Gaultier’s Homage, and Chanel Couture Takes Flight

Victoria’s Secret Launches a High End Line: As much as we all love neon pink panties and sequined bras, Victoria’s Secret has launched a higher-end line of lingerie which we could see grown-ups wearing.

Amy Winehouse’s Family Not Thrilled with JPG Couture: Though critics enjoyed Jean Paul Gaultier’s tribute to the late singer, her dad said it was in “bad taste.” Will a public apology follow?

Scott Schuman and Garance Dore Talk Integrity: We’re talking about their blogs, people. Here’s how the couple navigates the fine line of maintaining editorial integrity and making money.

CFDA Releases 2012 Model Health Initiative: And they mean it this time. Diane von Furstenberg is getting serious about the 16 and up rule after last year’s hoopla over then-15-year-old model Hailey Clauson.

Who’s Who in the Brazilian Fashion Scene: Brazil is contributing more to the fashion industry than just banging hot models. Pencils out–it’s time to take some notes.

Get to Know Model Myla Dalbesio: New Ford plus size model and performance artist Dalbesio is someone you’re going to want to know. We interviewed the rising star.

The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman and Garance Doré on How They Maintain the Integrity of Their Sites and Make Money

To fête the launch of their ‘True Love In Pictures’ campaign with Tiffany & Co., Scott Schuman and girlfriend Garance Doré hosted a swanky shindig at the legendary jeweler’s Fifth Avenue flagship last night. DJ Solange Knowles spun old-school hip-hop tunes while models, socialites, and the who’s who of New York’s fashion crowd (those whose invites weren’t retracted) came out to celebrate the amazing alliance.

Joining forces with a brand like Tiffany & Co. is a big coup for anyone, even for the globetrotting street-style photo-blogging power couple, who collectively have collaborated with Gap, Burberry, Club Monaco, Moschino, and Kiehl’s in the past. (Both their sites have been growing–we know this because they’ve posted several jobs listings on our site.)

Regarding how they pick and choose whom they partner with, Schuman says they have to be careful, since they won’t shoot ads without their name attached to the project.

Fashion News Roundup: Take A Class on Beyoncé at Rutgers, French Elle Removes Offensive ‘Black Fashion’ Article, and Does LVMH Have a Heart?

Rutgers to Offer Course on Beyoncé: Now here’s a class we wouldn’t have regularly skipped when we were undergrads: a Rutger’s University professor is teaching a course on the significance of Beyoncé Knowles in regards to black feminism, studying her lyrics against the works of historical black female figures like Alice Walker and Sojourner Truth. Her husband, Jay-Z also has a course on him offered at Georgetown University. Next up: A seminar at Wesleyan examining how Blue Ivy Carter paved the way for infant musicians. {Sister 2 Sister}

Megan Fox Will Not Play Elizabeth Taylor: The actress took to Facebook to deny claims that she is in talks with Lifetime producers to play Elizabeth Taylor for their upcoming biopic, Liz and Dick. Looks like Lindsay Lohan might soon be getting some much-needed work after all! {ONTD}

ELLE France Removes Controversial Black Fashion Article: After facing much public scrutiny, ELLE France has removed their ‘Black Fashion Power’ article, which credited the Obamas for finally influencing black people to retire their Apple Bottom jeans, boots with the fur and “[return] to style with a sense of dignity.” ELLE‘s editor claims the article was “misinterpreted” (there seems to be a lot of that going around these days), but we’re pretty sure we got what author Nathalie Dolvio was trying to say the first time. {The Cut}

The Sartorialist’s Scott Schuman and Garance Doré Take Pictures of ‘True Love’

What could say “I love you” better than a fat, blingin’ rock from Tiffany & Co.? The famous jeweler seems to think you can. For years, couples have looked to Tiffany’s to provide them with tangible symbols of their love, and now, just in time for Valentine’s Day, the retailer wants its customers to help them define the emotion.

Yesterday, Tiffany & Co’s whatmakestruelove.com, a “unique guide to matters of the heart,” launched an interactive photo blog, “True Love in Pictures.” The retailer tapped the talents of street style photographer Scott Schuman (of Sartorialist fame) and his girlfriend Garance Doré to curate a collection of images that will serve as a source of inspiration for future users. The blog features snapshots of canoodling couples (not them sadly), his and her housewares (like “S” and “G” mugs ahem), and handwritten love notes. Aw.
