Obsessed with Your Tresses? Here’s Our Roundup of the Best Hair Blogs Out There

In a recent interview, Glenda Bailey, the EIC of Harper’s Bazaar, was explaining the differences between European and American magazines. She said, “You know, the American sensibility is different. In Europe, sex sells. In America, it’s hair.” This may be true. Blake Lively made headlines for a week when she went red. And whenever a starlet chops a pixie, there’s mass hysteria. Hair is a symbol of sexuality, femininity, and often the first thing you notice about a person. It’s a big deal.

We decided to do a round up of the most interesting hair blogs out there. And trust us, there are many, many hair blogs. Maybe even more hair blogs than sex sites. Maybe.

Click through to see our favorite hair sites, from the professional to the fun to the niche.

Is Glenda Bailey Leaving Harper’s Bazaar?
People Are Talking

Is Glenda Bailey Leaving Harper’s Bazaar?

There was a gossipy little item in this morning’s WWD suggesting Glenda Bailey is about to resign from Harper’s Bazaar. “Perhaps Harper’s Bazaar’s Glenda Bailey is on the way out?” writes reporter Zeke Turner. “She has a new counterpart on the business side, hard-charging Carol Smith, who can’t be happy with the magazine’s current numbers and will want to turn the magazine around right off the bat.”

We’ve heard similar rumors, but dismissed them as pure gossip. Turner does go on to cite an unnamed Bazaar source who reiterates that notion: “Glenda rumors come all the time, it’s just like the boy who cries wolf,” the source told WWD. “For the past two years, there have been Glenda rumors.”

We reached out to a Bazaar spokesperson for comment, and she said, “We don’t speculate on rumor, especially when it’s from unnamed sources.”

Harper’s Bazaar Fetes the Winners of its “Fabulous at Every Age” Contest (and Glenda Bailey Tells Us Which Editor She Thinks Is Hot)

Last night Harper’s Bazaar and Estée Lauder held a lovely cocktail reception at Hearst Tower to celebrate the winners of its second annual “Fabulous at Every Age” reader contest. It was a girl-power love fest, leaving a good chunk of the room weepy by the end of the presentation.

I snuck in a quick chat with Harper Bazaar’s EIC, Glenda Bailey (in Erdem), before the presentation started. She talked about what a huge franchise “Fabulous at Every Age” is for the mag, saying, “When I’m walking along and someone wants to get my attention, they don’t go ‘Harper’s Bazaar!’ or ‘Glenda!’ They say, ‘Fabulous at every age!’” When I mentioned that I recently had a birthday and had to jump to the next age category she said, “As somebody who is not in the 70-year-old category (she’s 52), I find myself lusting after the 70-year-old picks–so I have something to look forward to in my 60s and 70s! The spirit of it is, you immediately look to where you are, but then you look a little bit before and a little bit after.”

Textbook for Fashionista: Glenda Bailey!

In honor of NYFW, I thought it’d be nice to take a look at Glenda Bailey. To be perfectly frank, I think she’s pretty badass as far as the editorial world goes. As editor in chief of Harper’s Bazaar, she’s the type of woman who keeps her wits about her and one of those people that’s in it because she loves it. So often in fashion we see people who want their picture taken, want their name on the list or want their gift bag. There are very few veterans still in the business for the right reasons, and Glenda is one of them. So cheers to Ms. Bailey; she’s got it goin’ on.

Panelists at Bazaar‘s Anticounterfeiting Summit Say Knock-offs are Scary

Save the knock-out Hearst view, the line of tables holding fake Louis Vuitton bags and the woman navigating websites that peddle faux designer goods on her iPad, there wasn’t anything amusing about Harper’s Bazaar’s Sixth Annual Anticounterfeiting Summit today. Counterfeiting, it turns out, can be a pretty scary thing. Conference panelists this year represented businesses Read more →

Magazines

It’s Miley!

It’s no secret that I often take issue with some of the editorial and design choices made at Harper’s Bazaar, but I’ll state again for the record that it only upsets me because this is a title I used to love very dearly. This morning I received an email with the newsstand and subscriber cover Read more →

A Bazaar Concession

Well, Harper’s Bazaar, just when I think I’m out…you pull me back in. I have made it entirely clear how I feel about a certain theme in the magazine (and subsequent coverlines.) But I did find our friend Bonnie Morrison‘s piece about drinking and the social aspects of a job in fashion last month incredibly Read more →

Rachel Zoe for Harper’s Bazaar

To: Tips@Fashionista.com From: NaughtyMagIntern@TellAll.com Despite the recent Rachel Zoe/Anna Wintour fashion feud, Harper’s Bazaar has had no qualms in taking in the stray fashionista. I guess editor-in-chief, Glenda Bailey, wants to cause a little ruckus in the fashion world. I overheard Ms. Bailey and another editor discussing a shoot styled by, da duh da duh, Read more →
