Hakaan Accepts the ANDAM with Aplomb

Hakaan Accepts the ANDAM with Aplomb

PARIS–Hakaan Yildirim is not who one would call an ingenue. Indeed, Yildirim, whose “debut” at London Fashion Week last season made a decidedly large splash, has been a working designer in Turkey for more than a decade.

Within a year, Yildirim has gone from a local Turkish talent to the fashion world’s next big thing, and his collection, shown Wednesday in Paris, further sealed his fate.

Last night, Yildirim officially accepted the spoils of his latest achievement: the ANDAM fashion award.

Harvey Nicks Gets Hakaan

The work of Hakaan Yildirim, Turkish design sensation, ANDAM winner and Carine protégé, is now available to purchase. But only at British department store Harvey Nichols, which also stocks fashion darlings Erdem, Peter Pilotto, and Christopher Kane.

The prices aren’t insane–they’re not cheap, either, but doable if you can generally afford a $2,000 dress. A peplum skirt rings up at £660, approximately $870, and a wool body con dress will set you back £1,130, or around $1,485.

This is a huge get for Harvey Nicks, and we bet they’ll be keeping Yildirim on come spring. But we also bet he’ll be showing up in several more retailers by 2011.

Carine Hearts Hakaan Yildirim – Part II

Carine Hearts Hakaan Yildirim – Part II

PARIS–The French love fashion like no other: from Karl Lagerfeld being made editor-in-chief of a national newspaper for a day, to John Galliano being awarded the prestigious medal of ‘Chevalier de la légion d’honneur’ by president Nicolas Sarkozy, couture is a matter of national pride.

The ANDAM Fashion awards (an acronym for National Award for the development of fashion) finger picks a young designer every year (previous winners have included Gareth Pugh in 2008, and Giles Deacon in 2009) and its jury is mind-boggling: Carine Roitfeld is president, assisted by Alber Elbaz, Jean-Pierre Simon of the French ministry of culture, but also Jefferson Hack, Sarah Lerfel from Colette, and top executives of LVMH, L’Oreal and members of the Pinault family…and the list goes on.

Yesterday, the fashion legion revealed this year’s choice, Turkish designer Hakaan Yildirim.

Mark Fast Snags an ANDAM Nomination

Mark Fast Snags an ANDAM Nomination

Bryanboy’s just tweeted congratulations to this year’s ANDAM nominees. They’re not even listed on the foundation’s site yet, but they sound more than plausible (and incredibly international): Francesco Scognamiglio, Mark Fast, Alexandre Vauthier, Bouchra Jarrar, Calla Haynes and Hakaan Yildirim. Carine Roitfeld leads this year’s judging panel with Alber Elbaz, Hilary Alexander, Colette’s Sarah Lerfel, Read more →
