Yes, you read that correctly. International Cat Day is a thing and it’s today. And, we had to do something big–as you’ve probably noticed, unless you got to this by googling International Cat Day and it’s your first time on Fashionista, we dedicate an appropriately significant portion of our content to cats. Not because we’re Read more →
Fashion’s finest were out in full force for the CFDA Awards, allowing us to feast our eyes upon some of the most drool-inducing looks we’ve seen in a while. As if that wasn’t enough, Chanel’s “Little Black Jacket” event and the Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic provided us with even more fashion fodder. From Debbie Harry Read more →
When Amanda Brooks left the city for the farm, she had loads of fashion goodies that she couldn’t take with her. Fortunately for those of us still left in the city, she left the likes of Prada, Phillip Lim, and Chanel to the New York City Opera’s annual pop-up thrift shop. {NYPost}
Miley Cyrus is engaged to Gale Liam Hemsworth! The engagement ring, designed by Neil Lane and featuring a 3.5 karat diamond, cost a reported $100,000. {Hollywood Life}
Victoria Beckham is British and proud of it! She appears in a video for Britain’s GREAT campaign in which she discusses great British design and music and lets the world know that hottie husband David can’t dance. {Styleite}
Gisele took a trip to her homeland of Brazil for the Green Nation Fest. The supermodel planted trees wearing a baggy shirt, leading to further speculation that perhaps she’s growing more than just trees. {PopSugar}
It’s CFDA Awards day! The Met Ball may be a fashion spectacle of epic proportions, but the CFDA awards is really about the people that make the fashion (and their hot model dates). All kidding aside, it’s a day for the industry to come together and celebrate itself and the creations of its members. Oh, Read more →
Last night, Karl Lagerfeld extended his empire even further with a launch party for his new range of T-shirts in collaboration with artist collective I Love Dust, which was held, appropriately, in a Karl pop-up shop in the West Village. And though Lagerfeld wasn’t physically there, there was plenty of his likeness to go around
There were Lagerfeld dolls, teddy bears, shoes, jackets, and special-edition Diet Coke, sprinkled alongside the new shirts, which are emblazoned with his most memorable quotes and images of his signature style pieces.
The scene was a remarkable testament to the power of the Kaiser’s ever expanding personal brand.
The Beckhams Don’t Have a Damien Hirst Baby Monitor: Victoria Beckham has fired back at the UK tabs, denying reports that little Harper Seven received a £10,000 baby monitor as a gift from artist Damien Hirst. How useful could a baby monitor submerged in formaldehyde really be, anyway? {Daily Mail}
Hilary Rhoda’s Legs are Looong: Is this real? Model Hilary Rhoda’s legs look absolutely ridic in this shoot for French glossy Le Figaro. Or as Christian in Clueless would say… “Nice stems.” {Le Figaro via Fashin}
Jean Paul Gaultier on Cannes Jury? With rumors floating around that JPG will join the jury at this year’s Cannes Film Fest, it sounds like fashion may feature heavily behind the scenes as well as on the red carpet. If only, for close friend (and dissed W.E. creator) Madonna’s sake, this had happened last year… {WWD}
Ugg-ly Footwear Losing Stock Value The end of a fashion epidemic?? Stock in the comfy-yet-unfortunate looking booties has fallen a nearly unheard of 39% in the past week, and Crocs aren’t doing so hot either. It’s time to put them away, people. Forever. {Racked}
Tom Ford’s Documentary Airs Next Week : Tom Ford: Visionaries will air October 23 on OWN, offering a rare “intimate” look at Ford’s creative process and daily life. He apparently takes more than three baths a day. While we’re really excited about this doc, we’re secretly wishing this were a segment of now-defunct Oprah Winfrey Show– if only to hear Opie belt out a satisfying “Tooooom FoooOOOooord!!!” {Marie Claire}
Fashionable TwitPics of the Week: Revealing phone pics of Kim K. doing hookah, Hilary Rhoda’s store bought cookie dough, and Lily Donaldson on a very tiny horse. There’s even one of Doutzen Kroes doing her best Scarlett Johannson impression… well, almost. {FabSugar}
Chanel Model on France’s Dancing With The Stars Male model, Karl’s muse, and sometimes-”pop star” Baptiste Giabiconi is a contestant on France’s version of DWTS. He’s often shirtless… and wearing body glitter. Wonder if Karl tunes in every week for inspiration? {OhLaLa}
Our favorite all-American model Hilary Rhoda covers the latest issue of chic LA-based surf mag FOAM. The editorial is Rhoda’s first since moving over to Women Management from IMG, and we love that she’s doing some less commercial work. With her rocking beach bod, dark brows and piercing blue eyes, Rhoda makes the fiercest surfer girl we’ve ever seen. Advanced copies of the mag hit newsstands today.
We’re always curious as to why we don’t see Hilary Rhoda in more magazines.
Maybe it’s because she’s so rich that she doesn’t have to do editorials? Maybe it’s because she doesn’t like doing them? Maybe it’s because her All-American looks don’t work in high fashion?
Yes, we realize that final suggestion is preposterous. But Rhoda’s card for her new New York agency, Women, is more directional than anything we’ve seen her do recently. And that’s not saying much.
We’re wondering if the move from IMG–best known for repping commercial models like Tyra Banks–means that Ms. Estee Lauder is looking to book some Love editorials.
Zac Posen’s Pre-Fall collection images went up yesterday, but it wasn’t the clothes that caught our eye first; it was the close-up, tightly cropped images and the array of top models forced to cram their poses into the microscopic space.
According to Daily Mail, “The Brooke Shields ‘power brow’ is back!.” We’ve heard this before and it seems the bold brow shows no sign of thinning out any time soon. The British tab reports that the comeback came when Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, and Calvin Klein sent their models down the runway with thickened arches. However, we feel this look is best achieved by those naturally blessed with beautiful brows. Thus, we present our list of the top ten brows in the biz.
