Michael Kors Fall 2013: Glam Fashletes

The energy could not be higher in the room as Michael Kors presented his fall 2013 collection, despite the fact that between Nemo and the Grammys this fashion week has been rendered considerably less star-studded. Leave it to Kors to score a front row coup of Hilary Swank-next to-Zoe Saldana-next to-Jada Pinkett Smith-chaperoning Willow Smith-a few seats down from-Michael Douglas. In contrast with the celeb-second coming in the front row, Kors’s runway featured a team of “commando-glam fashletes”.

Is Resort the New Ready-to-Wear? Ferragamo Puts On First Ever Runway Show at the Louvre To Showcase Resort

Once designed for women with budgets in polar opposition to mine, women about to take off on a fantastical and lavish holiday, resort collections were also secondary occurrences to their ready-to-wear sibling, dignified with a lookbook at best.

Last night in Paris, Salvatore Ferragamo went quite radically the other way. The Florentine label, sponsors of the current Leonardo da Vinci exhibition at the Louvre, used the opportunity to throw a lavish runway show at the museum, with a couture-worthy casting and front row.

Fashion News Roundup: Kate Middleton Auctions Two Hats for Charity, Raf Simons Will Collaborate Again with Fred Perry, and Was the Birkin Clint Eastwood’s Daughter Torched a Fake?

Dior’s new main man Raf Simons will once again design a menswear collab for Brit heritage brand Fred Perry. {Telegraph}

Two of Kate Middleton’s old straw hats are expected to fetch up to £1,500 each at a charity auction. {Vogue UK}

Artist Tyler Shields’ Birkin BurnGate may have raised a lot of eyebrows, but it also raised the alarm at the Purse Blog. Not only are they rejecting the hefty $100k price tag, they don’t even think that bag is a real Birkin. {PurseBlog}

Tonight, after nine months of work, Barneys New York will finally deliver their window collaboration with the Deste Foundation for Contemporary Art. {WWD, subscription required}

Hilary Swank To Design Clothing Line

Hilary Swank To Design Clothing Line

If you thought Hilary Swank was the kind of serious two time Oscar-winning actress who wouldn’t become the latest in a never ending chain of celebs to launch a clothing line, think again.

Hilary Swank is developing a clothing line, WWD is reporting. Swank is working with DMA Designers Management Agency, the same agency that arranged the collaboration between Amar’e Stoudemire and Rachel Roy, to develop a concept for her collection.

Swank’s line will reportedly have an athletic bent, given her gymnast background. “Our platform is a contemporary, outdoor, athleisure brand,” DMA co-founder Marc Beckman told WWD.

While this news might seem a little out of left field, given that Swank isn’t an actress who is particularly known for her style (though we’ll never forget the Guy Laroche she wore when she won the Oscar in 2005), there was that head-scratching item last month that she is developing a fashion game show for the CW. Two years ago she signed on to produce a movie version of Falling Out of Fashion, a novel by Jane Pratt’s former executive assistant Karen Yampolsky. We’ve yet to see anything come out of that deal yet but the title is listed in IMDB for 2011. And then let’s also not forget that she’s buds with Marc Jacobs and has been known to work in his West Village store just for kicks. So maybe Swank is more of a fashionista than we thought.

First Look: Jill Stuart

A fight broke out at the Jill Stuart show yesterday. Between us and a “photographer,” (we consider Craig McDean a photographer – this guy was paparazzi). He shoved in front of us to snap shots of Hilary Swank while we tried to explain to him that we needed pictures of the actual clothes. Hello! It Read more →
