Dressing for The Hunger Games: Tom Ford’s Influence, Katniss’ $30,000 Hair, and Avoiding the Dancing With the Stars Look

It’s T minus 3 days until The Hunger Games opens! And yes, we already have tickets (and no, we will not be dressing up as our favorite characters, though we hope others at the theatre do.) This movie has strong characters and a really unique plot, and one of the reasons we’re excited to see it brought to life is because fashion and beauty play such an important role–they’re really a part of the story. The fact that a stylist is a pivotal character says a lot about how image can change people’s perceptions.

There’s been a lot written lately about how the characters and their looks were coneptualized. From Cinna’s Tom Ford influence to Katniss’ $30,000 hair, read on for how some of the looks in this movie came to be.

Fashion News Roundup: Jennifer Lawrence Wows on Another Hunger Games Red Carpet, Franca Sozzani Gets Knighted, and PS I Made This is DIY’ing at Saks Tonight

Jennifer Lawrence Strikes Gold: On the heels of that amazing Prabal Gurung gown she wore to the L.A. premiere of the Hunger Games, Jennifer picked another gold number for the London premiere. J. Law knows what works: her body looks bangin’ in the Ralph Lauren stunner. Girl (crush) on Fire, indeed. {The Cut}

Franca Sozzani Gets Pinned: On Wednesday, Franca Sozzani was inducted into the French Legion of Honor, the highest honor in the country and one received by the likes of Anna Wintour and Karl Lagerfeld. The Vogue Italia editor stayed loyal to her Italian roots, wearing a Dolce and Gabbana dress straight from the Fall ’12 runway. Sozzani attributes her success to following her own voice: “I listen [to others], but I must go my own way.” {Fashionologie}

Jennifer’s Body (Double): Jennifer Lopez was spotted filming her new music video in Mexico with her body double, which is not surprising until you realize her body double is a dude. A dude who actually looks like a dead ringer for Lopez. Turns out Lopez isn’t the only celebrity using male body doubles: Sarah Jessica Parker, who is afraid of heights, had one while filming Did You Hear About the Morgans? for a balcony scene. {Grazia UK}

Effie Trinket Wears Alexander McQueen in the Hunger Games, Plus More Fashion and Beauty Reveals

We reported a few weeks ago that the Capitol Couture Tumblr (the Lionsgate tumblr devoted to Hunger Games fashion and beauty) had soft launched, and now it’s live. Needless to say, we’ve wasted quite a bit of our morning on it–TOTALLY WORTH IT. In addition to the mesmerizing plot, fashion plays a really big role in the story, and it’s looking like it’s going to be pretty striking on screen. While still pics have been slowly leaking over the past few weeks, Capitol Couture gives us a bit more information about the labels we’ll see in the movie.

Hunger Games Fashion News Alert: ‘Capitol Couture’ Tumblr Launching, Plus Check Out Some of the 500 Hair Looks from the Movie

The Hunger Games isn’t being released until March 23, but the frenzy is building. The strange world of Panem, which I envision as sort of a Willy Wonka-meets-Grapes of Wrath mash up, has obviously captured the imagination of a lot of people. And Lionsgate is going all out with its marketing. Mockingjay.net (our go-to source Read more →
