Want to go to fashion week but you a) don’t live in New York and don’t work in fashion or b) do live in New York and work in fashion but are lazy and hate the cold?
IMG has just announced that, for the first time, every show taking place at the tents will be livestreamed at newyork.mbfashionweek.com and facebook.com/mbfashion week. That means you’ll be able to watch close to 90 shows, from biggies like Michael Kors and Diane Von Furstenberg to up-and-comers like Marissa Webb and Timo Weiland.
Kate Upton’s modeling career is continuing on an upward trajectory: The model just landed another plum commercial gig, this time with footwear brand Sam Edelman. She’s also drawing comparisons to Cindy Crawford.
Not one but two ‘fashion hackathons’–one hosted by the CFDA and IMG and the other by Hearst–will take place during this coming New York fashion week. This news is pretty surprising when you consider that most fashion people probably don’t even know what a hackathon is.
To explain what a hackathon is, why it’s happening during New York fashion week, and what this means for the industry, we spoke with Liz Bacelar, founder of Decoded Fashion, an organization that creates events dedicated to bringing fashion and tech together. Bacelar, along with former Lincoln Center fashion director (and, before that, director of special events at Vogue) Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, made the CFDA/IMG fashion hackathon (an official part of NYFW) happen.
Karlie Kloss–cover girl, Victoria’s Secret catwalker, model over-achiever–has made an abrupt switch from Next Model Management to arguably the industry’s top agency, IMG. Not only that, but it seems that with the move from Next to IMG, Karlie may have also dropped her mother agency (a term for the agency that first signs a model), Read more →
A tipster alerted us the other day to an interesting new addition to the official Tokyo Fashion Week calendar: American Apparel. Yep, the controversial purveyors of all things retro and cotton will stage some sort of show during fashion week in Tokyo and we were kind of confused about it. Tokyo Fashion Week has experienced Read more →
Before each fashion season, all the big modeling agencies put out show packages featuring their roster of leggy beauties, complete with their measurements, so designers can cast their shows and campaigns. Think of them sort of like model baseball cards–all the essential stats are there. And lately, agencies have started to get a bit creative Read more →
While we still travel to big halls and complexes with tents and sit on benches while models walk down a runway in clothes that wont be sold until six months later–5-10 times per day for a week–fashion week has changed a lot over the past few years. Much if not all of that change is Read more →
If anyone were to launch a definitive creative agency to foster and coordinate fashion industry partnerships, Stephanie Winston Wolkoff is probably one of the only people who could do it.
She used to be Vogue‘s director of special events, which means she basically organized the Met Ball every year, in addition to myriad other events, partnerships and initiatives that likely required the movement of mountains to make happen. And, as of 2010 she’s been the first ever fashion director at Lincoln Center, where she was responsible for consulting on all coordination between LC and the fashion industry, which sounds like a giant headache, but, as anyone who’s been to a show at the tents should know, she made it work.
Now, Winston Wolkoff is stepping out on her own…
Show Packages: think of them as baseball cards for the fashion set. For casting directors, they’re pertinent to their jobs in the days leading up to Fashion Week, but for the rest of us… well, they’re another excuse to ogle pretty faces, and take a look at who will be gracing the runways during the upcoming week. The biggest agencies are rolling out their strongest lineups this season…and while some present rather basic packages featuring simple photos of their models, there are a few that take creative license in the best way.
Our favorite all-American model Hilary Rhoda covers the latest issue of chic LA-based surf mag FOAM. The editorial is Rhoda’s first since moving over to Women Management from IMG, and we love that she’s doing some less commercial work. With her rocking beach bod, dark brows and piercing blue eyes, Rhoda makes the fiercest surfer girl we’ve ever seen. Advanced copies of the mag hit newsstands today.
