‘Schiaparelli and Prada’ Exhibit Not a Hit For the Met

The Costume Institute’s “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibition at the Met closed on Sunday to disappointing numbers. According to The New York Times, total attendance at the exhibit came to 339,838. Last year’s “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” exhibit attracted nearly double that number: 661,509. So what did “Savage Beauty” have to offer that “Impossible Read more →

Did Anna Wintour Really Ban Kim Kardashian From the Met Ball?

For the past few weeks, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West haven’t missed a chance to flaunt their new publicity stunt coupledom, appearing together at various public outings and events. Meanwhile, Prada is very much alive and thriving. The brand has tremendous cultural recognition–and is in conversation, so to speak, with the industry all the time. Prada’s influence is impossible to ignore. So when Miuccia wanted 50s glam and tapped fellow tastemaker and frequent collaborator Steven Meisel to plunk models in a gas station for the spring campaign, we should have realized the ripple effect this would have on fashion imagery.

Baz Luhrmann To Direct Film for Met Exhibit Starring Miuccia Prada and Judy Davis as Elsa Schiaparelli

There’s an interesting new multi-media twist to the Met’s upcoming “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations” exhibit. In addition to the exhibit itself and a book (which Katie Grand appears to be involved in), there will be an accompanying film in which Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada have their “impossible conversation,” made into a possible one Read more →
